RalfKeymaster@ wolf8312: To be extra sure that there is no performance impact, you can force-disable VSync in your graphics driver control panel. vorpX ususally disables it automatically or shows a warning if it can’t, but disabling it in your graphics driver can’t hurt.

SpazemParticipantdo you have 3D depth ?geometry 3D ? z3D ? or is the image flat ?
how can you play in VR with a fov of only 90° ?
Yes there is 3D Depth, no geometry 3D setting in VorpX but if you plug your controller in and go to in game settings and make sure “Fix mouse cursor to screen” is set to on, then it is similar. Not sure what you mean by z3d, but no the image is not flat, I can look all around me with the head tracking. It’s not like cinema mode like you’re thinking, it’s almost a full VR experience. It’s not the best with a FOV of 90, as I stated in my experience, it needs to be increased. It’s still a very good experience though.
I’m trying different settings atm nothing really good so far.
Did you watch the YouTube video and follow the steps? You should be getting a really good experience.
On a side note, I found out that going into settings > controls > Camera Acceleration = NONE makes head tracking a lot smoother without the delay. I will add this note in my main post
EDIT: It appears I can’t edit my original post, is there a time limit or something?

HalloMolliParticipantHi HalloMolli,
I just got vorpX yesterday and spent all night getting the original Skyrim working and I’ve finally narrowed it down to these steps:
One time setup:
1. Restore factory defaults for Skyrim profile.
2. Run the Game Settings Optimizer for Skyrim. Each time you play:
1. Start vorpx (not desktop)
2. Start Skyrim.
3. Make sure Gamepad override is set to full before you scan.
4. Scan using ALT-L.
5. Set Gamepad override to off.I’m using an Xbox controller. If you use the mouse/keyboard, you may not need to worry about toggling the Gamepad override. I will say that if the Gamepad override is on when you scan, it will lock the world to your head movement which is undesirable and will make you feel sick. When everything is setup correctly, looking around will seem natural and will not be locked to the world view. I hope this makes sense. On the lowest graphic setting, I get about 90 FPS in Geometry mode. It drops to about 45 FPS on the highest setting. I get better performance in Z-Buffer mode, but there are glitched bars on the right and bottom of the view that I can’t seem to remove.
Hope this helps!
Peace \/
chisel316Wow, thank you so much for your helpful advice! As soon as I return home I’ll give it a try! And yeah, I use an Xbox Controller as well. =)
Jan 22, 2017 at 8:49am #125185In reply to: So I've just bought vorpx and now…
chisel316ParticipantYes. That makes sense. My profile has the gamepad set to full override which is the same as having it off in the game but without having to actually turn it off. Once I run the Direct VR scan, I can then set the gamepad to off so that it is then recognized as a controller in the game. You can try my way and see if it works for you. If it does, please let me know which is easier.
Thanks,

RalfKeymasterYou’re right, sorry. I made some changes to this when the Vive/Touch controller support was introduced. I’ll see whether I can bring back a smarter auto disable that first checks for VR controllers and then disables the override if no VR controller is active but a gamepad is present. That’s how it was planned, apparently it was forgotten before the last update.
The override is necessary without Direct VR since quite a few games (including Skyrim) don’t allow mouse (required for head tracking without Direct VR) and gamepad to be used together. In such a case vorpX overrides the gamepad with its own gamepad emulation to allow head tracking to work.

chisel316ParticipantHi Ralf,
The gamepad override is not turned off automatically on a successful scan. I have to manually switch it back off every time I play. What is the scan doing and why is it dependent on the controller setting? How come you have to scan every time and how come it only unlocks the tracking and gives you a natural world view when the gamepad override is set to full when you scan? I’d like to get a better understanding of what the scan is actually doing.
Thanks,

gygellyParticipantHey guys,
I’m pretty overall with my current setup, but I do have one major problem:
I’m trying to play the game with an xbox controller. I’ve left all the vorpx stuff regarding the controller alone, so it’s doing it’s default thing of mapping xbox button to keybinds (so that mouselook is still enabled, etc). However, it seems to hiccup and let buttons go.
This is mostly a problem when trying to use a bow. I’ll be holding RT to draw the bow, and it will just randomly release. This doesn’t happen when I use the left mouse button, just RT on the gamepad…it’s like the emulation hiccups and let’s the button go for a fraction of a second. One other problem that is less of an issue but might be related: every time I zone or use the minimap I have to press caps lock again because run/walk gets swapped (as in, if I barely push the left stick, I run, but if I push it all the way I walk, as opposed to the opposite expected functionality).
Can anybody help? Right now this is the only thing preventing me from enjoying the game.
Jan 19, 2017 at 1:37pm #125068In reply to: HT Crouch/Jump issue with controller emulation
RalfKeymasterSkyrim does not allow mouse/keyboard and gamepad to be used together. If one is used, the other is disabled by the game.
I put mapping the crouch/jump keys to gamepad buttons, which would be necessary your case, on the nice-to-have feature list, but I can’t really promise if or when that will actually be implemented.
For now please use the Vive controllers as keyboard/mouse, which will work fine with the crouch/jump feature.

MarcoParticipantSome games are very close to native VR. Graphics of those games is even better than any native game, like Bioshock Infinite. There always be some things to get used to, like controls in case u wanna play standing is a bit different than the typical room scale game on Vive. But i think it worth it.
Jan 18, 2017 at 6:21pm #125035In reply to: Does ,,direct vr" games looks like native vr?
TiggerdyretParticipantWith direct VR it’s close to native, but there still some pretty big bugs in most games. Giant hands in Skyrim… The game resetting direction, when walking into a Portal in Portal. Had a menu problem in New Vegas, but it might have been fixed in the latest hotfix. If you just want stuff to work out of the box I still wouldn’t recommend it. If you are willing to tweak or use mods, some games like Skyrim or New Vegas can play absolutely amazingly, though unwanted problems can still pop-up from time to time even in these games. I played about 40 hours of New Vegas in Vorpx and even with the issues it was still was an amazing VR experience, and way more fun than any of the 4 hour VR games I’ve tried so far. It felt like a true VR experience except for a little hassle with the menu, which was alleviated with some clever controller settings.
Vorpx is an amazing app and by far the best VR purchase I’ve made so far. Even if you the games you want to play aren’t quite there yet is is still absolutely amazing to walk around in you favorites games, just how they look in VR. And though very few games feel native. You can almost always find a compromise, that makes something playable. I for instance plan on playing Skyrim Special Edition in z-buffered 3D with headtracking as my gpu isn’t strong enough ton handle True 3D in that game.Jan 18, 2017 at 2:44pm #125025In reply to: GTA V – Official Recommendation
DiverToughParticipantIssue resolved. I got it working. I just uninstalled/reinstalled the mod. I hope we get tracked motion controls directly through Vorpx soon…
Jan 17, 2017 at 3:34am #124988In reply to: GTA V – Official Recommendation
DiverToughParticipantGrand Theft VR mod hand controls not working since 17.0 release.
Ever since Vorpx tracked controls were integrated in version 17.0 the GTVR tracked controls don’t appear. Am I missing something? What am I doing wrong?

in forum General vorpX Discussion
HalloMolliParticipantHello everybody! As the title implies I am not sure whether to buy it or not (since vorpx is kinda polarizing the VR-community). So, if you guys could help me with my decision I’d be very happy.
Things you have to know:
– I am not a tech Person so I won’t have the Patience to learn how to optimize my Settings to achieve the best possible experience. In other words I am looking for a tool where I just push a “start” button and it runs fine by itself.
– I want to buy vorpx to immerse myself into the worlds of two particular games: Witcher 3 and Life is strange. Only Those two games have to work properly. By that I mean provide a ‘real’ (stereoscopic) 3D effect and they have to be playable (e.g. fps and Control wise) at the same time.
(side note: I tried to play Witcher 3 in steam’s big Picture mode and the experience was very bad –> Resolution + only 2D on Screen + I was sitting in a theater)
– My PC:
CPU: Intel Core i7 6700K 4x 4.00GHz
GPU: Inno3D GeForce GTX 1080 iChill X3
MOBO: Asus ROG Maximus VIII Ranger
OS: Windows 10, newest update
16GB DDR4-Ram + 500 gb SSD– I am using Oculus Rift + I own Touch Controllers
Thank you for reading. Have a nice day.
