Hope someone could help. Really an incredible experience when working with Stereoscopic 3D and in First person. Set this game up yesterday using vorpx tried it a few times in the past but never had any success getting the first person mod working until yesterday. Having spent a couple hours in game using Vorpx.

A problem keeps it just short of a truly incredible experience worth a playthrough of the game. The problem I will describe below in the hope someone can help provide a solution.

Missing menu and game text while using Vorx making it impossible to interact with phone read mission prompts or even to save the game.
The game with mods works perfectly when not using vorpx with all texts showing and functioning properly. I have tried using two different hmds the Pimax and the Vive. Missing texts in both cases. There is a fix in the desktop version just requiring replacement of a couple text dll files, that I have had to do for desktop playing, problem resolved but still no texts when using Vorpx.
If anyone has a possible solution or any idea as to why the texts goes missing when running Vorpx it would be helpful to know and much appreciated.
I’ll continue to look for a solution in the mean time it would be a bummer because until a full VR release of another GTA game or similar open world story driven game is released that I could sink 100 of hours in, maybe a decade from now, VorpX with these games keeps me interested in VR otherwise by HMD’s would have become door stops or paper weights long ago.

You can switch to EdgePeek mode temporarily with the middle mouse button, right gamepad stick or right VR controller grip button.

If you can’t see the phone because it’s offscreen in the headset, use edgepeek middle mouse button.

If you can see the phone but the text is missing, try using the vorpX hotkey to temporarily switch G3D/Z3D, in case some HUD shader is misplaced in G3D. I can’t recall the default key, but you can rebind in vorpX config app.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
It’s unfortunately as dellrifter22 describes I can see the phone and menu just simply no text. I will try his suggestion later today to switch from G3D to Z3D with hotkey.

Hi Ralf, Probably not many will jump through the hoops of getting GTA IV working in first person mode buy I will say it is amazing the stereoscopic 3d pops as good as any VR experience when settings are dialed in properly. I have tried yesterday dellrifter22’s suggestion unfortunately the texts on phone and in the menu’s do not show up using whatever vorpx mode immersive screen, z adaptive still no go.
Having played through all of Resident Evil 7 i’m very good at using edge peek being essential in that game at least when i last played it.
If you have the time to look into this it would be great. Besides SkyrimVR and Fallout 4VR and probably more than those I found playing GTAIV using Vorpx with first person mod, at times more realistic and immersive that those two made into VR games. It was the closest thing I have honestly experienced to entering a living breathing lifelike Virtual World. I may try GTAV again but last time i couldn’t get it to work as well.
There is something about the open world design of these gta games having such attention to detail the sounds effects everything works so well in VR for what VR can be using Vorpx.

    Hello v2VR.

It is quite strange, I have been considering buying an Oculus Rift for £200 off gumtree this past few days and I decided to hop on this forum to see how good the software supports different games etc.

GTA IV is my favourite game of ALL TIME.

Could you please keep in touch with me, I would be interested in getting this game working over all others, I just love the worldscape R* created with their version of NYC in this game.

I have tried to mod this game in the past (ENBs etc) but gave up because of the weird conditions you need to do like downgrading your game (and even then there are disputes as to which version to use etc). Did you have to downgrade?

    Hello pintman,

I have so much nostalgia for this game having played it on the xbox 360 back in the day.
Let me know if you end up getting a VR headset like the rift and are able to play it in VR it is definitely some next level stuff. I would recommend having a very good GPU if you want it to run acceptable. I use a GTX 1080ti and it is just barely acceptable fps wise the way I like to play graphics fairly sharp.I have an iron stomach when it comes to this sort of thing and do not suffer from motion or vr sickness.
I like how you described it as the GTA worldscape R* has created.

I’m trying to remember the necessary steps I took to get the thing to work in VR and modded. I’ll try to provide that here later.

In the mean time their are some youtube video’s on the subject that I used.
Unfortunately I’m having difficulty in completing some missions in VR do to the missing text issue but for free roaming and the now and then mission completion its amaze balls just even walking around in first person taking on the body of Niko Belic.

I used the first person mod years ago before vr, but am having trouble getting it to work again on this newer machine. Would need more time and direction to get it setup.

I managed to boot GTA4 vanilla though, and G3D and text seem to work fine. I wonder if your mods break the phone somehow, or the way fov is handled. You’re using the keyboard up arrow to bring up the corner phone correct? I can’t remember if the first person mod puts a phone in your hands.

The Z3D key would have revealed any hidden shaders in case there were any. Maybe make sure all HUD settings are set to full 1.00 in vorpX menu. Or try changing to a more standard resolution, in case you are using something custom. Sorry I can’t be of more help atm.

If you want to keep trouble shooting, try uninstalling a mod at a time to see if the phone gets fixed.

This game came out around when I was 16 and still in school. Me and my friends played this game for the entire summer after it came out, endless police chases and stealing helicopters.

Thankfully I also have a 1080 and a Ryzen. The game runs really well for me in 4K on my TV, I play it occasionally but I would absolutely love to experience the story again in VR. It would be a dream for me.

I know it is a bit of work, but if you could write up what you have done or link to the guides you yourself have followed, I would be forever in your debt.

I think I’m going to take the plunge for a VR headset this weekend. Someone is selling an oculus rift locally for £200, failing that I will buy a new oculus in town I think.

Thanks for your further suggestions dellrifter22. It’s nice to know that the text is showing for you using G3D. It than is very possible a mod is breaking the text somehow. Today I had a chance to do some more modding to the game after having a frustrating morning even trying to get it to work at all the game would stop during start up. Yeah I really need to try again the vanilla and add mods from there. Again good suggestions I will try later.

You should be fine pintman getting this game to run in VR with your 1080. With the broken text I have been playing the mission also on my 4k tv. Bouncing back in forth trying to experience the story through the missions and great cutscenes and freeroaming in VR. I never new just how good this game looks not having as nice a GPU when I last played. Never got into modding GTA before its not that difficult really one you aquire the basic tools. Was not bad at modding SkyrimVR with at one point nearly 300 selected mods. Very different modding that game compared to GTA.
I will try to look at what earlier essential vids I checked out and important bits. Possibly provide some tips later to help get you started. Yeah with the Oculus Rift and the 1080 you should have no problem, I’m trying to drive a Pimax8K with higher resolutions.

I uploaded an updated profile to the cloud the defines the phone screen as part of the HUD, making it scalable together with the rest of of HUD. Fingers crossed that that doesn’t break anything.

Please note that only the phone screen scales with the HUD, the phone background stays in the corner. Not really an issue, almost unnoticable since you can’t see it anyway.

    Thanks Ralf,
I really appreciate you taking the time to add this featured new profile. I will give it a try hopefully sometime later today. dellrifter22 appears to have the text working in his vanilla version so maybe it is a mod i have installed. Again thankyou! For me driving around liberty city in car or motorcycle from a first person perspective in these games, looking down and seeing a full body really enhances the VR experience. I know people love their 3rd person games as I do to but in VR especially the characters body is always getting in the way blocking the view.

This message is for Ralf and dellrifter22 or whoever it may concern about running GTAIV using Vorpx with mods.

Thanks to your work on the new profile. I found the cause of the missing text issue. At least as far as Vorpx settings are concerned.

    This is what I discovered.

After applying the new GTAIV profile Ralf provided and entering the game I was immediately relieved to find the phone text was working now and on further inspection I found the menu’s were now working as well.

However the format in G3D mode was off for my setup so I began to make the normal changes I always do with any game to make it fit nicely in my Pimax8K hmd. After doing so and was again happy I left the apartment in game and tried to pause the game to look at the menu to my horror the text went missing again.
So I went and looked at each individual setting and found
the VorpX setting “FOV enhancement” is the cause of missing text. I usually max this setting out in the Pimax. So I incrementally decreased the setting from like 145 something and found the text doesn’t reappear until this settings is set all the way to 0.

I just repeat the FOV enhancement must be set to 0 in my case.

So I’m relieved that I can now save the game look at phone and computer in game and hopefully complete all story missions in VR using Vorpx.

On a side note Ralf I also found that moving the game from my HD drive to an SD drive fixed a problem I was having on start up of the game.

    Now back to the game
