virtuayayParticipantvorpx desktop viewer alone is worth $50
i use it hours a day instead of a monitor and its totally superior to any other options (no extra processes to run like steamvrs desktop, no annoying smartphone gui or mandatory vr environments etc)
vorpx desktopview turns any budget hmd into a ~$2000 gaming monitor (and at lower latency than any alternatives)
vorpx is so awesome i would use it even if it were subscriptionbased or made you buy a dlc for each game profile (fortunately vorpx is too cool for that junk)
these are questions and/or suggestions (maybe i just have settings wrong for somestuff?)
1: immersive view screen pitch angle offset slider maximum is still too limited, should be able to look directly up at virtual screen
2: if there were a vorpx option like the “use headtracking as gamepad” that created a virtual joystick windows device the headtracking could route to, that would help uncoupled view/aim in various games (especially unhookable)
3: in my exp reshade mods for games dont work so good with vorpx, could there be some way for vorpx to intercept those mods and takeover implementing them? supposedly you can rename dlls and stuff but i always get crashes from that
4: hud options in vorpx del menu need expansion to offer not just scaling hud elements but also offsetting position x/y even as far as offscreen (hud in vr usually annoying, only noobs need reticules and score counters etc)
even better: add an option for hud opacity including invisible/removal5: tons of games require 60fps@60hz (or less) yet most hmds are in the 70-90hz range, and in my exp this always causes annoying visual glitches. is there someway to have like a software based 2:3 blackframe insertion so 60hz games look better on 90hz hmds? and as a general feature maybe software bfi as an alternative to some fixed reprojection modes? (1:2 for 45fps to 90fps etc)
6. desktopview with virtual monitor can be annoying if you get stuck with a crashed game and a blank hmd while your physical monitor is disabled by vorpx. needs a hotkey to toggle off virtual monitor and bring the physical monitor display back on, or even better somehow a way to get desktop view out of the game and back to the desktop when alt-tab is unusable.
7. virtual monitor creates many resolutions but desktopview doesnt allow selection of any as activated by default at launch, so everytime i use vorpx i have to spend half a minute scrolling thru windows settings resolutions
8. overunder stereo3d in fullvr mode is always stretched even with aspectratio correction, tho looks right in immersive mode
finally kind of similar to #6 but vorpx has profiles for some programs that use a 2d gui or windowed interface and these always get stuck with desktopview/virtual monitor. for example with virtual monitor set to disable my physical monitor, when i run the profiles for vlc/mpc, sbs3d base or dolphin emu, desktopview gets stuck on a blank hmd display and often have to reboot.
could desktopview somehow access hook profiles for programs while still giving its normal desktop view so this wouldnt happen? or maybe a hotkey to toggle between desktopview and profile?and a way to composite separate processes/desktops as different virtual screens in immersive/cinema would be cyberpunk badass
ok just one more thing:
old games in vr are the best thing ever so if you have to choose between spending time supporting motion controls in bigbudget studio releases versus g3d support for 90s-00s classics like starlancer, crimson skies et. al. as a vorpxfan i respectfully request dont waste devtime on mainstreamtrashthanks very much

RalfKeymasterThanks. The desktop viewer/virtual display combo has indeed a few tricks up its sleeves that make it truly unique. Glad you noticed.
Definable virtual monitor default res:
Already on my radar, will come with the next release.
Over/under in FullVR:
I’ll look into it. Sounds like a bug indeed.
Monitor enable hotkey:
The monitor should always come back on after a while (max 30 secs IIIRC) when you take off the headset. There are several safeguards in place to ensure that. A hotkey is a bit of a double edged sword here as you wouldn’t want to hit it inadvertently while playing. Still noted, some unlikely key combination may be a good idea for this.
Crosshair:
If crosshairs are seperatable from other HUD elements, you might be able to disable them yourself with shader authoring (requires expert settings enabled in the config app). Not possible for all games though, lots of games use the same shaders for HUD and crosshair.
Force cap at 60 fps:
That is already possible via the Frame Sync options in the vorpX menu. You can cap the game framerate at a fraction of the headset refresh rate. If e.g. your headset is set to 90, choose 2/3 for a 60 fps cap.
Windows joystick device:
Sounds nice-to-have, but lots of stuff with higher priorities, so no promises in that regard.
Desktop Viewer VLC/MPC
Normally vorpX should should hook the players and then come back to the desktop viewer after closing them, just like what happens when hooking into games. I’ll check whether I can replicate your problem, never heard of an issue with that until now though. As a workaround you can disable hooking from the vorpX tray icon right click menu. That way you can use MPC/VLC without vorpX hooking into them.

CrunchyGlassParticipantI use the VorpX desktop viewer for all games that have native SBS (3D Side by side), or when using other programs like geo11 to create the SBS.
Some of the other desktop to headset programs I’ve tried introduce judder (choppiness) because they don’t use the headset’s refresh rate like Vorpx does.
Also it looks so much better (less jaggies). I think that comes from supersampling the full SBS to half SBS (correct me if I’m wrong on what’s going on there).
Also the Clarity function makes it even nicer still.
