Hello, wanted to try dear esther but vorpx does not start when I launch the game. Skyrim, half life 2, RE7 etc all launch and look quit good in vr. Only game not workong is dear esther. Any thought?
Thanks in advance!
JozeffffApr 11, 2017 at 3:45am #127649AerowynXParticipantodd works just fine for me.. try reloading the profile from the cloud profiles
Apr 11, 2017 at 11:37am #127651RalfKeymaster@ jozeffff: You need to use the original Source-engine version of the game. The recently released “Landmark edition” is based on a completely different graphics engine and thus does not work.
Oct 11, 2017 at 11:07am #167590lipplogParticipantOh crap. I just bought the wrong version. Looks like I’m gonna test out steams return policy.
EDIT: Damn! I returned it only to discover the original version is no longer available. What am I missing?
Oct 11, 2017 at 12:27pm #167592RalfKeymasterIsn’t the Source engine version included when you purchase the landmark edition? That definitely was the case the other way around.
Let me know if not. In that case I’ll take a look at the landmark edition. The game is quite nice in VR.
Oct 11, 2017 at 9:42pm #167593markbradley1982ParticipantI am wondering if the Source version is included as well since I’d like to try it.

I can’t find anything on the game page about the original source being included. Can you confirm this, Ralf? If it’s there I’m definitely buying it back.
Oct 12, 2017 at 10:25am #167601RalfKeymasterI was just assuming it would be included. Bought the game before the landmark edition and got it for free when it was released, so I assumed you would also get both when you buy the LE now.

Okay. So I bought the landmark edition from steam again. And there is no source version included. Oddly enough, the game can boot in stereoscopic mode without VorpX, but the controls are not that great. No decoupled. When I try running it in VorpX, it doesn’t even recognize VorpX is there. Strange.
I would love to play it in VorpX. Please let me know if you get around to it. Thanks in advance!
Oct 13, 2017 at 4:45pm #167626RalfKeymasterI’ll check the landmark edition before the next update. Since it’s based on Unity 5 I’m cautiously optimistic, but as always there are of course no guarantees.
Oct 14, 2017 at 4:46am #167631BuckleBeanParticipantI suggest you try the VRGIN unity plugin for the Landmark edition. Brings “native” support to Dear Esther.

I played Dear Esther on the DK2 with vorpx and it was great. This unity plugin with the Landmark Edition is excellent.

I actually tried this. And there was something very wrong with it. Whenever I turned my head, my body stayed stuck in the initial direction. So when I walked forward, I would walk sideways or backwards, until I turned my head back to the original position. That and the Vive controllers are useless. Unless there’s something I’m not doing after applying the patch.
Oct 16, 2017 at 2:12am #167652lipplogParticipantOr does the VRgin patch require using the Vive controller to distinguish body positioning, as described in this thread…?
