ParticipantThis is my first time posting. I have been trying to get the desktop app to work with my Samsung Windows mixed reality system. Every time I run it I go into a total black place. I have checked the logs and not sure what I am looking for to give me a clue. I am using a Dell Gaming laptop with a 1060 GPU. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

ParticipantBy desktop app do you mean the vorpX Config app, or the Desktop Viewer?
I know in the past people with multi-monitor setups would get black cinema screen in the viewer until they only had one display enabled. If this applies to you, try restarting the Desktop Viewer with only your primary display enabled.

Keymaster@vintage: dellrifters explanation probably applies to your laptop even without two monitors. Gaming laptops usually use two GPUs, one of built into the CPU and additionally a dedicated (gaming) GPU, in your case the 1060.
While your headset is connected to the 1060, the desktop usually runs on the more power efficient integrated GPU. Unfortunately vorpX cannot copy the desktop image from one GPU to the other.
You might be able to disable the internal GPU completely to resolve the issue (e.g. in the BIOS), but not all laptops offer such an option.

ParticipantHello Ralf,
Your are correct about not being able to turn off in the Bios. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to make the desktop viewer work. I would love to watch movies with my headsets.
Thanks again for all the help.

KeymasterFor watching movies you could try MPC-HC or VLC. vorpX has a profile for both and hooks directly into them like it hooks into games. With some luck your laptop switches to the dedicated GPU with these since they use 3D APIs for rendering. That’s not guarenteed, but worth a shot.
If that doesn’t work, check Steam for dedicated VR video players. Never tried one myself, but there is a variety to choose from, some free, some cost a few bucks.

ParticipantPersonally i would recommend DeoVR, has a few nice features and from my tests it’s the faster vr player. Funny enough it seems to also be the one SLR uses (official vr porn video streaming app).
BadoinkVR player (another porn vr player) has somewhat better 3D (not sure if only for their vids) but is slower and has no features at all other than forward/backwards, if you even consider that a feature.
For non vr videos MPC-HC is much better than the ancient VLC.
