ParticipantFor real in the sense that the whole game becomes playable, the fighting
as well. And no more disapearing objects when coming close?
At least that is what I understand from this clip. This could be really cool with VorpX!

ParticipantI hope this thing really works properly. I always wanted to play Witcher 3 in first person so I could see the world properly instead of just mostly staring at Geralt’s posterior. Will do a completely clean install and see where it goes from there!
Now all we need is a G3D profile (although, Z3D is much less disturbing to me in 1st person rather than 3rd person as at least you don’t have to continually look at Z3D artifacts around ‘you.’)

Participantthere is no G3D profile yet? O man that is such a disappointment! Wanted to try it tonight but I am not interested in Z3D. Maybe I can combine it with Tridef…

ParticipantGD3 works with standard Witcher 3 profile! Not seeing artifacts so far (haven’t played much) except the shadow in Geralds hair, but we wont see that in first person :) But things like Fov, resolution and such are not automatically done in this profile. I always struggle to get those things right.

Wow, hope that works! I clearly remember it not working when I tried it last, but admittedly that’s been a while.

ParticipantIt does work great but again the 6 DOF/positional tracking is broken in this game
Other then that, it’s amazing to play this in first person with 3 dof

ParticipantAlright my results are in:
– Shadow problems in G3d
– scaling is off
– when moving with left stick Xbox controller the head tracking invertsto bad! but ej, luckily we have a lot off other games to choose from :)

KeymasterYou can adjust the world scale in every G3D game with the “3D-Strength/Scale” option within a super-wide margin. You’d have to setup the FOV correctly first though, that’s mandatory for FullVR. FullVR without a correct FOV doesn’t make sense at all. That’s actually more important than 3D for FullVR mode. Without a correct FOV you get a zoomed in (or zoomed out) image with weird “fishbowl” distortion when you rotate your head.
Provided the FOV is right the 3D-Strength option provides a scaling range roughly equivalent to you being anything from 50cm small to 10m large. So “Scaling is off” is an issue that doesn’t really exist with G3D since you can easily dial the scale in.
In official FullVR profiles stuff like that is dialed in right per default, but in a profile that is actually an immersive screen profile for the game’s normal third person view, you have to do it yourself when you want to play in FullVR with a first person mod.
No promises, but I’ll take a look at this new first person mod and if it works well enough, I’ll add some setup instructions for it to the profile.

ParticipantOk, thanks Ralph! Haven’t been tweaking VorpX profiles in a while, forgot about the scaling thing. How would you know if an existing official profile is made for Full VR or immersive screen (I don’t mean just 3th person games)? Maybe I am just overlooking this part, that wouldn’t surprise me :)

ParticipantHi Ralf,
I know what he means by the scale issue and it’s not vorpx
It’s because the game is a third person game and the scaling of objects was made for that view
So when in first person the scale of objects seems wrong, but that’s because they were not designed to be viewed this way
Nothing to do with vorpx at all, but a design choice by CD project red.
Now….if you are going to look into a “first person profile” for this game….can I be cheeky and ask that positional tracking/6 DOF gets some love with this profile pleaseeeeee?
I’ll buy you chocolate

ParticipantThe good news: This mod seems to work pretty darn well so far for me. The mod has a built-in FOV control so you can adjust that as you wish, and overall things seem excellent in my testing.
The bad news: The camera sway is a bit much to take and the only Witcher 3 mod I’ve found so far that claims to remove it does not work for me.
The vorpX G3D profile, unfortunately, has the all-too-common issues with shadows etc. So you’ll have to disable those if you want to use G3D (and the game looks *awful* without the shadows). You’ll probably want to use Z3D (more acceptable since it’s 1st person now). Too bad the G3D profile isn’t 100% though, because it otherwise looks great and even in G3D it’s now old enough to push very high resolutions and lots of eye-candy.

ParticipantI’ve played about 5 or 6 hours now with this new first person mod and it’s really good; no problems at all as far as I can tell.
IMHO this definitely deserves your attention Ralf; it completely transforms TW3 into the game I always wish it was. Performance is fantastic, so here is hoping you’ve got time to correct the G3D profile issues too.

ParticipantAfter playing with this the latest revisions of this mod I’ve got to say it’s absolutely brilliant. There are a number of modules to make combat easier/better in 1st person, although I do recommend installing Slow Motion Button as well, as 1st person combat is harder than 3rd person in this title.
I’m getting almost 75pfs at 4K in-game resolution and all settings maxed; I expect a little tweaking will allow me to maintain 75fps. It’s hard to get this title to have enough clarity without texture shimmer, but it can be done (In-game sharpening set to OFF and vorpX sharpening set very low.) This is on a Pimax 8k-X, so on most HMDs you’ll likely be able to maintain 90fps without much effort.
I hope you’ll consider a full-VR makeover of W3 now that we have an excellent, working, 1st person mode already.

ParticipantA couple things I’ve noticed:
1) We are really close to a ‘full VR conversion’ already with this mod.
2) Primary issues are G3D shadow issues. The game runs well enough a lot of people could probably hit 60fps in G3D mode, but the profile is not good enough to use.
3) Z3D does work reasonably well however; just play with the setting a lot as the title provides less depth than most in Z3D (I have to push it to max depth in order to get enough to be acceptable)
4) Head tracking works pretty well, my only issue being that it causes momentary instabilities when in mouse mode and I absolutely can’t get the Y Axis to invert (to normal since I play with the stick ‘inverted’)
6) Use it with Post Processing AA, Motion Blur and Blur. I don’t generally like those, but with anything else, and any sharpening at all (either vorpX on in-game), this game gets very shimmery very quickly. -
