Trying to get VorpX working with the latest World of Warcraft retail build (The War Within expansion). Just hoping for immersive screen mode with some nice stereo depth. Following this youtube tutorial…

They seem to have gotten rid of the “DirectX11 Legacy” option in the latest patch, so I had to select “DirectX11”.

    Set to windowed mode.

When launching WoW, I got a “Unexpected Error” about a d3d12.dll in the install folder. The popup suggested I rename it, so I did.

Relaunched WoW, and I got the “Attaching to Wow.exe” popup, no error this time, but…

It launched SteamVR (using a Pimax8kX), and I see the SteamVR void/loading area in my headset, the game window launches on my desktop (I also hear the WoW music in my headphones), but no game in the headset. The VorpX controls (delete key) don’t seem to do anything (no VorpX overlay in the upper left corner of the WoW window, like he gets in his tutorial video).

Has anyone been able to get WoW working with the latest patch? I’m really hoping to figure this out in time for the new expansion (launching next week).

    Thanks for any help!

If the D3D11 Legacy option had been removed, you’re out of luck for the time being. At least as far as Geometry 3D is concerned. The other D3D11 renderer doesn’t play nice with vorpX. I’ll take a look at it for the next vorpX update, but no promises.

I was able to get it to work (with all the same warnings above about Dx12).

Once launched, I set it to DirectX 11 and VorpX launched. I set the 3d mode to Z-Normal/z-adaptive and it seemed to work for a while.

I’ve never been impressed with zdepth mode, has anyone gotten it work with true Geometry 3D?

I’m also wondering if it’s worth trying to use dx12 mode but with the CyberPunk profile?

Just a heads-up that G3D for the new WoW DX11 renderer will work with the next vorpX version. Required quite a few changes to the vorpX codebase, so no way to address this with just a profile update.

Until the next vorpX gets released, WoW G3D support is limited to WoW Classic, which as of today still has the ‘DX11 Legacy’ renderpath.

    Hello Ralf,

With the latest WOW patch today, it looks like all versions of classic WOW have patched out the option to use legacy DirectX 11, making vorpX G3D unusable. Will there be a new beta version of vorpX available for download with the new updated DirectX 11 vorpX WOW profile? Thanks!

I got WOW in Z3D(Z-Normal) working quite well using DirectX 11(non-legacy). I uploaded the WOW profile settings to the cloud to share.

Follow these instructions to get Z3D to work:

    1. Set game setting ‘Graphics API’ to ‘DirectX 11’ every time WOW is opened.(WOW automatically sets game to DX12 every time opened for some reason, after new update)
    2. Press F11 2x in game for Z3D to work and when image squishes.(Can bind F11 to different key in game keybinding settings> miscellaneous > window mode)
    3. Set game setting ‘Anti-Aliasing’ to ‘None’ or ‘Image-Based Techniques’.
    4. Set game setting ‘Optional GPU feautures’ to ‘Check mark’.
    5. Set game setting ‘Ambient Occlusion Type’ to ‘FidelityFX CACAO’.
    6. Set game setting ‘Display Mode’ to ‘Windowed”.

This works for all versions of WOW classic I’ve tested. I have not tested it on WOW retail. I tested with Nvidia 3080ti GPU and Valve index HMD. Not quite as good as G3D but better than flat and can turn graphics settings way up.

Hi Ralf, I don’t suppose there is any update on when the new version might be available that will fix the G3D issue with WoW?
    Cheers,
    Alex
