I’ve been continuing the game on a monitor and found there are also infrequent crashes. Not as much as when using it with vorpX but definitely there.

I therefore conclude the issue is actually with Bioshock 2 itself. In anything VorpX just exaggerates the underlying issue. I suspect there is some memory limit being reached or similar. I will look around for help on the web but feel free to ignore this as don’t want you to go on a wild goose chase when the game is most probably the cause

Played another level or two – with those settings off certainly more stable. Unfortunately still get the crashes on quick saving. Probably 1 in 5 or 1 in 10 crash. Also hit another area where the scan fails, which is understandable. I think I may have found an area that crashes every single time I save. I can send across the save games to see if you get the same thing. Also seem to get the same when viewing the map.

I switched off Distortion, Real Time Reflections and Global Lighting in the graphics menu. I haven’t had a crash since having played an extra 15 minutes. Although obviously hard to tell when the crashes are sporadic. I’ll let you know if I find anything else.

Sent the settings across. I’ll also give it a go tonight with some different graphics settings. As said the most common offender is when I quick save (which I have rebound to the F11 key).

Having played through a bit more the crashes are quite frequent. I have tried turning off the Steam overlay and making sure any other non mandatory apps are closed.

90% of the time the crash occurs when quick saving. I will attempt to only save the long handed way but I suspect that will be the same. If you do find anything related to these of if there may be anything in my logs please do let me know.

That worked well in Fallout:NV. I tried the same just now in Bioshock and very odd things happen. Main image gets reduced into the top left and doesn’t scale. This is a Bioshock issue, not a VorpX one.

A 4k monitor would be very nice :-)

Ok, I presume if its a profile update, I can pick that up from the cloud profiles?

Thanks for the resolution tip. On UE3 games the performance is usually there to push it passed the 1280 x 1024 recommendation (on a 1080ti). If I can alter the config I usually try for 2560 x 2048, which looks great (I use this in Fallout: New Vegas). I haven’t tried to get in a higher 5:4 / 4:3 resolution as yet with Bioshock but I may give it a try. Unfortunately even with a custom resolution set up in nvidia control panel some games don’t offer me more than 1080 height.

Sent the e-mail just now. The attachment was ~6mb so let me know if it gets rejected and I can host the files somewhere.

No problem. Happy to help out. I’ll send over the Save Games and instructions of how to replicate. Anything else let me know. From some limited testing I don’t think the crashes are DirectVR related (as they occur even when a scan has not been run / using mouse emulation), but they do seem to be VorpX related as they dont occur when not hooked.

@Lathander not sure if you are still playing. However if you get through that water bit and into “Atlantic Express” in non-vr mode (takes about 3 minutes), then the scan will work again. I got crashes throughout the water bit even after the glass cracked. In Atlantic Express game seems to be stable with VorpX again :-)

I’ve done a bit of testing and found a way around all of these current issues – without too much fuss. I suspect the internal checking of the gamepad within Bioshock 2 is causing the issue.

Crashing During the water scene – Played through this part in non-vr. When you get to Atlantic Express seems fine again thus far.

Direct VR Scan during same level – again play with mouse emulation / non-VR through this section. Once in Atlantic Express (about 3 minutes later), the scan succeeds again.

Gamepad not working – Found a simple sequence to get this working. Simply don’t have the xbox controller switched on when entering the game. Once you have run a successful scan turn on the controller. The issue only occurs if it is on whils the scan is run.

Thanks for quick reply Ralf. Bioshock 2 is fantastic by the way. Actually makes the game very creepy indeed :-)

I also get the crashing issue at that exact point, regardless of whether a scan has been completed or not. I will try and get passed this in regular non-VR mode and see if it settles down after that.

I have the same issue exactly. Scans were working fine, but now loading a certain level the scan detects the arms as the rotation. FOV is fine. This is certainly level / item related as if I start a new game the scan succeeds. I will play a bit more and see if it works a bit later in the game again.

Update – everything fixed and working again in latest 17.2.2. Thanks Ralf!

Tried that and no luck unfortunately. Guess I am waiting for next version of VorpX. Hopefully too far away.
