So recently got Vorpx and i can get it working with oblivion and skyrim but any time i try to get it to work with fallout 4 it crashes , i deleted all my ENBS and stuff and the game its self works fine out of VR but as soon as it says “press enter to continue” or whatever at the main menu it just CTDs without any warning or anything and instantly without any loading or even freezing/lag

I tried scanning it in multiple locations, and it never goes further than rotation.

Is there any steps or basic user guide or anything other than just click optimizer, and play game? or check list?

and I mean, it says it works on Skyrim SE… so im gonna get it working

I’m not really sure what you mean by “put myself way to forward”, but you can (and should) re-center the head tracking with ALT+SPACE if it feels odd. After doing that the camera position is always exactly the original camera position of the game.

If the scanner fails, please try a different location/savegame and see whether that helps. There always is a certain chance of failure, for more details on that please check the hint text that is shown during each scan.

On a sidenote: I would highly recommend to use the original DX9 Skyrim with vorpX. Unless you can’t live without the more saturated color scheme of the remaster, there is not much point using it. On most machines/setups the original runs a good chunk better with vorpX.

I got it to run on my Vive but it does not seem to be working properly at all.
fov 110 110 seems to put myself way to forward, when i try to turn, it looks as if i have neck out forward a foot or two.

Also, when I try to run Direct VR, thinking it may fix it, it just does not want to do anything. It never even passed first rotation, i do not even know what is next.
I looked around the forum, but nothing seems to help.

Maybe I missed bunch of things I needed to know to set up, or whatever, if there are things I need to do please let me know.

Thanks Ralf, guess I’ll just hang out in Skyrim until the next update goes live ;)

Well, the tinkering is half of the fun :-) And modding is half of the fun playing Skyrim.

I think it is helpful that people share what works for them and what not. This will help in identifying mods that do work. For example if I’m interested in a mod but I see that everybody has problems with it I’m not going to waste my time trying to make it work. And if I see somebody saying they run a mod with no problems then I know that it is worth trying it.

From the point of view of the player who mods their Skyrim, VorpX is a mod. We simply need to find out how this quite complicated new mod works with other mods, what conflicts with it, or what compliments the added functionality, what compatibility patches are needed – everything that happens when a new complex mod is created.
All this will slowly happen with time.

Yeah, as I said, it starts up in windowed mode with VorpX, but the head tracking is broken (I’m guessing it’s moving the virtual mouse outside the window). It starts in full-screen without VorpX, but won’t with VorpX running.

If I ALT+TAB back, I just get a black screen on the monitor and nothing else. I’ve never found Skyrim very happy about switching away and back again.

Is there some kind of VorpX debug log I can check? I looked in the likely places and didn’t find one.

Also, it was working early last week, and I don’t know of anything that would have changed since then, except for Oculus updating to 1.11.

I did a complete reinstall of Skyrim through Steam, and it made no difference. One thing I noticed is that Skyrim starts up in VorpX if set to windowed mode (but then the head tracking doesn’t work correctly). It won’t start up if set to full-screen, but minimizes itself as soon as VorpX tries to switch to VR.

I’ll try reinstalling VorpX and see if that makes any difference.

It’s as though VorpX is trying to put up a dialogue box or something, but there’s no dialogue box.

I just wanted to post a THANK YOU! Whatevr this DirectVR voodoo is doing, I like it! Skyrim is nearly perfect in VR now. I spent a long time yesterday just wandering around aimlessly, getting ambushed and having unexpected encounters, and marvelling that I finally feel like I’m present in the game world!

The only thing missing is decoupled weapon movement which I assume isn’t possible. I just hope Bethesda is paying attention and gives us proper locomotion in their version of VR games, because this along with free weapon handling (like in the Doom 3 VR mod) would make this just unbelievable!

Oh, and I need a faster video card… where are those 1080Ti cards anyway?!?!?!

increase or change resolution in desktop or in vorpx??

Change the resolution in the game, either in the game’s settings, or by editing the associated .ini file.

Thanks for the tip on using Nvidia AA, I’ll give that a try. I ended up turning off the in game AA Skyrim/fallout as they just make the image look more blurry in VR… Although trees and fences suffer without the AA, it’s still better overall.

hopefully the nvidia forced AA will be the solution!

I play Skyrim original – (not SE) – as it looks nearly identical to SE in vorpx.
No FOV failures for me during Direct X VR scan.
The original Skyrim vorpx also has a rarely mentioned feature called internal resolution which allows to keep the 4:3 ratio but bump up the resolution. I use a bit of it (1.10 or so) but if i put it too high it makes it look too much like a game and kills the magic a bit :)

You could probably play Sky unmodded at stock VorpX resolution/settings pretty well. Skyrim takes a LOT of power to run well with high rez and the eye candy up. Especially in geometry mode.

Fast ram and an SSD will help greatly.

Overclock as best you can on CPU and GPU

Be sure you are well cooled and not thermal throttling.

    Hi all,

Been a while since I’ve been posting. Been doing more playing than talking for a change.

Some may remember a few months back, I did a post/series of posts on Skyrim and the Titan XP. My system consisted of the Titan, a 4790k clocked to 4.8ghz and 2400 mhz ram fed by SSD’s in Raid0 and I was able to mod Oldrim pretty extensively and get playable performance at high resolutions.

Finally I have been able to upgrade to a Kaby Lake 7700K which I have clocked to 5ghz on a Z170 Maximus with the normal bios upgrade (for Kaby) and am running 4266mhz TridentZ ram. Although I haven’t spent time getting hard numbers, I wanted to pass on some of my experiences and conclusions thus far.

First of all, there has been a metric ton of blather about Kaby and how it’s just a higher clocked Skylake. And that is true. However, what all the tech guys seemed to have missed out on is that Kaby’s memory controller can handle some seriously stupid fast ram. And guess what benefits VR/VorpX better than anything I have yet found? Fast ram.

I noticed a significant boost to performance running Skyrim under VorpX back when I did the Titan posts, moving from 1600/1866 DDR3 to 2400Mhz DDR3. Outside of VR, the increase holds as well and Digital Foundry and others verified that open world games like Fallout/Witcher/Skyrim/GTA do in fact see serious benefit that scales as speed goes up. The old wisdom no longer applies at least in open world games. Those textures moving in and out benefit from faster ram speed.

Since going to my new setup, I have been able to shut off fluid sync and no longer have stutter/’flashback’ issues when doing it at 1920×1440 and 1.4 SS. Framerates stay mostly above 45 with a 100 mod loadout and gameplay is smooth. This was impossible before.

So basically, I just wanted to let you all know that yes, faster ram is a good thing. Run the fastest your CPU/motherboard can handle and you WILL have a more enjoyable experience. Oh…and the added 200 mhz on the clock is nothing to sneeze at either and only benefits the process as Sky/Fallout are CPU bound and clock sensitive games to begin with.

    Skyrim SE???
Not sure if you set it already but if not try it with 1920×1440 resolution set manually in Skyrim.prefs and set the Fov 110 110 in game using the console.

This was the main reason to buy it and works really good.

I have adjusted the size of everything a little 😛

Also, do you see any performance loss while playing more than…let´s say an hour?

I’m also impressed with the head tracking with the new DirectVR implementation. My only problem is that the FOV scan always fails, and when I try to set a FOV of 110 in the console the view initially changes, but when I close the console the FOV goes back to what it was before…

So far it’s a huge improvement though, this, FAllout 4 and Bioshock Infinite are a joy to play in VR now. Just not sure why I can’t get the original Bioshock Remastered edition working…
