  • I posted this on the Oculus Rift website, but I feel it should be posted here in case Ralf or any of y’all are interested.

This Canadian company recently revealed one of their projects that they’ve been working on for many years. It’s called the Totem and from the looks of it, it’s going to outshine the Oculus two-fold.

    Screen 1080p OLED

    Field of view 90 degrees

    HDMI input
    USB output (tracker)
    Sensors

    2x cameras 1080p
    3 axis 1kHz gyro
    3 axis 4kHz accel
    3 axis magnetometer
    Audio: Surround sound over stereo

    Emulated controls

    USB mouse
    Playstation controller
    Xbox controller
    Non-game controls

    Up, Down, Select/Real World View

    Supported engines

    Unreal
    Unity
    Havok
    CryEngine
    Platforms

    PC
    Playstation 3 & 4
    Xbox One & 360
    Supported media

    All 3D formats, SBS preferred Size 6.6″ x 4.4″ x 5.4″

(One of the features I also saw is called “Real world view” and from what I can tell, it uses the cameras on the front of the headset to see the real world, in case you need to find the keyboard or something.)

Now, this both makes me exited and nervous, because if this is near the same price of the oculus, I might cancel my devkit and make the switch to this. Sorry guys, but I’m being honest here. They haven’t released any more information, but they want to release more soon. There is also a link included here.

If all of the stats are true, then it looks to be above everything else, except perhaps for the field of view.

Man, I think this is gonna shake up the VR world very, very hard.

    Hello,

I have a Durovis Dive VR headset and Moga Pro game controller. The Android & PC app Kainy already lets me stream PC games to my Samsung Galaxy S3 but I would very much like to stream VorpX enabled SBS 3D content, as a low-cost wireless 3D gaming solution.

Unfortunately there is no demo version of VorpX to test this so I’m asking users and especially VorpX developers whether it will work via Kainy. I already understand there are precautions against use of VorpX and Splashtop but Kainy appears to capture screen data at a later state in the video chain so I’m not looking for the standard canned response.

Can someone confirm if VorpX been tested and works or does not work with Kainy? If the latter is true then getting it to work, or even better, adding native VorpX streaming and smartphone accelerometer support would represent a massive increase in customer base; as the cost of entry becomes only a PC, smartphone, and Durovis/vrAse adapter.

i just discovered how to enable awesome 3d in Z-Buffer 3Dgames just switch to rift sbs then znormal or adaptive then back to rift amf znormal or adaptive until 3d appears/ fiddle with these 2 components till 3d depth and convergence appears. tested in crysis 3 and its awsome not flat anymore will test with others and report back. I think we should all congratulate Ralf for this driver

When using GPU Scaling make sure to set it to “Fullscreen” (that’s what it called for nVidia cards). If you still have problems after that disable GPU scaling (which is the default after installing a graphics driver) and stick to the standard 1280×800 in-game resolution for the Rift.

When you can’t bring the images together even with this setup, you might have chosen an incorrect IPD. You can calibrate your IPD either ingame with the vorpX calibration fuction (display page of the menu) or with the Oculus Config Utility.

Also make sure to choose the default display mode “Rift” in the in-game menu, not “Rift SBS”. The latter is meant for watching 3D-movies not for games.
