In reply to: how does it work?
hugoParticipantHi thanks for the answer, unfortunately i tried the shortcut for games like skyrim, bioshock infinite, outlast, metro last light, portal 2… none of them worked. I cfan’t even access the in game menu of vorpx by pressing DEL.

RalfKeymasterHi Nabelo,
no you are not alone with this, unfortunately. For some/most Bioshock Infinite works fine, others experience similar crashes like you do. You might want to check out the above Trouble Shooting Guide, but this is most likely an arcane bug in vorpX, so trouble shooting on your side won’t help.
You might be better off trying something else for now, rest assured that this will be worked on.

ibminarikParticipantMass Effect 3 is perfect out of the box. I cried when I saw the reapers invade, and it occurred to me that each of those buildings was full of people.
Bioshock Infinite is close, but I need to tweak the FoV some more before I’ll believe I’m there. There’s just the tiniest bit of fisheye and it bugs the hell out of me.Oct 3, 2013 at 4:01pm #10804In reply to: Nothing works for me…
Aled BParticipantFirst off, thanks for everyone’s help/suggestions.
Unfortunately, having tried everything that’s been suggested several times, and having made sure there are no potentially conflicting processes present, I am still having no luck whatsoever with vorpx. I am absoloutely certain that the problem lies with vorpx; not my rift, my tracker, or my rig.
There seem to be more and more people experiencing the same issue as me with Bioshock Infinite – game crashes to desktop after 60 seconds without a crash dump or notice. Have a look at the Reddit Oculus threads, it’s developing into a common complaint.
Even when vorpx actually lasts into the game proper, I have severe headtracker issues. In 6 months of rifting, I’ve never had head movements translate into actual player character movement, but this happens constantly with vorpx. Again, I’m not alone in experiencing this.
Aliens CM still works like a charm though, so go figure!

RalfKeymasterBioshock Infinite will be looked into, you’re not alone with problems in this game. Unfortunately it works for others, including me, so this is a hard to catch issue.
Did you try both the DX9 und DX11 version of FarCry3? Maybe one of them works for you. I’ll think about the error reporting once things get a bit more quiet.

LazloTheGreatParticipantThanks for your thorough response, Ralf. To answer your question, what I thought, by virtue of the last official post on the matter, was that the status of future intentions for a fix for what seemed to be described as not affecting a comparatively significant amount of users… that the status of any specific agenda to spend further time, not to mention how much, in pursuing this particular fix wasn’t quite explicitly stated one way or another yet. I know sometimes if a problem isn’t considered significantly widespread enough, it becomes counter-productive to meaningfully allocate further official troubleshooting resources toward. Not knowing you, what was already on your plate, nor where you stood on this specific tech issue, I didn’t have a clear basis to form any entitled expectation. So, rather than assume one way or another, I thought it simple enough to ask, merely to gain explicit clarification from your point of view, on the issue’s agenda from here on out, that’s all. And you just now responded to this in spades quite clearly, so, again, very much appreciated for your answer, Ralf, thank you.
I actually bought Bioshock Infinite for PC specifically for Oculus and vorpx, but otherwise my games tend to be on console. So BI was gonna be the one vorpX test case for me. I will look over the troubleshooting list again to make sure there’s nothing I’ve missed. I hope there somehow was, and it ends up being the thing that solves it. Barring that, I look forward to your future fix and enjoying your product’s bringing out that wonderful new dimension to Bioshock that so many others are currently getting to enjoy and rave about. Envy. Want to play, too.
Thanks.

RalfKeymasterLaszlo, vorpX beta is out for barely three days. Of course we will investigate this. What did you think? Also vorpX beta is and was sold as beta software, which is also displayed on screen the whole time, to avoid possible misunderstandings.
I’m really sorry that Bioshock Infinite right now is not working for you. Mind if ask if other games work for you?
You may also take at look at the following general trouble shooting guide, maybe it contains something useful for you:
First and foremost: If you happen to use any DLL override (like ENB Series, SweetFX or similar) for a game you want to try: Get rid of those. There should never be any d3d9.dll, d3d10.dll, d3d11.dll, dxgi.dll, xinpunt or any other system dll override in a games directory that does nor belong there. vorpX ‘hooks’ into these system DLLs, additional overrides can create all sorts of conflicts.
The same is true for any other kind of injector (like the script injectors for various Bethesda games). They might or might not work. if in doubt, disable them.
Disable any other stereo driver you might have running (nVidia 3D Vision for example).
If in doubt, disable all programs that can show content over DirectX. Skype, Mumble, Fraps, SteamOverlay are typical cases. This should usually cause no issues, but if you have problems, it’s always worth a try to temporarily disable those programs or their in-game windows.
Same as above for Desktop Streaming Applications like Splashtop. Try to disable and see whether things work better this way
vorpX only works with 32bit application at this time. This is important for example in WoW, which also has a 64bit version. The latter will not work with vorpX.
If a game has different .EXEs for DX9 and for example DX11, try both. Usually both should work to some degree, in some cases there are hints displayed on startup which one works better. If one completely refuses to work for you, maybe you have better luck with the other one.
If you have an SLI or Crossfire (dual graphics card) system disable this. It might or might not work, but is currently completely untested an thus not supported.
Disable any graphics ‘accelerator’ (Lucidlogix Virtu for example) if you use something like this.
If you use an Intel graphics chip, you’re on your own, at least for now. System requirements for vorpX include nVidia/ATI graphics. Judging from feedback, many things seem to work with Intel, but this is completely untested. Also for some things there are distinctive nVidia/ATI rendering paths in vorpX, those things won’t work at all on Intel.
Final note: There are a games that work great for some people but cause problems for others. Nothing uncommon in the wonderful world of Windows. We are trying to resolve those issues, but fixing things that can’t be replicated consistently, is sometimes tough. There might (and will) be cases were fixing issues that apply only to some will take some time.

LazloTheGreatParticipantThose Bioshock Infinite reports make me really sad. Its such beautiful game with the Rift. Unfortunately I’m not able to reproduce something like this and for others who posted here it seems to work fine too. Such things are hard to track down… Might this somehow be location dependent? Maybe someone can provide me with a savegame. Might be a long shot, but is worth a try.
Thanks, your genuinely expressed sadness for your product not functioning on our machines is at least appreciated. But, your sadness aside, having not seen any updates here for a possible future fix, is that kind of the end of the line then? Is a fix no longer being pursued?
In my case, I hadn’t tinkered at all with my machine prior, (it’s only a few months old) and everything was working without vorpX installed. Since installing, I’ve tried everything suggested here, but nothing’s preventing vorpX from it’s thus far unfailing track record for crashing Bioshock Inf. without exception.
So, would you suggest those for whom vorpX is non-functioning by this point, just go ahead, throw up our hands and gracefully accept the unfortunate technical reality that we don’t get to use this purchase… and then start your refund process?

DrBeefParticipantRalf
I’ll zip up my save game folder and mail it to the support address just in case you are able to use that. There are also some crash dumps in the BioShock Infinite binaries folder, so I’ll chuck them in.
Incidentally, I am using a wireless mouse and keyboard, so will retry with both wired later too, just in case. I’ve not given up yet.
Also, if there’s anything you want me to try (do you have a binary with any debugging or logging that I could drop in?) I would be happy to help get to the bottom of this with the little spare time I am allowed by family commitments.

Also in general what unclebob says: first and foremost get rid of any d3d9.dll / d3d10.dll / d3d11.dll / dxgi.dll / xinput override DLLs that you might have copied in a games directory. Otherwise all sorts of weird things can happen. The next vorpX version will have built in safety checks and warn you in such cases.

DrBeefParticipantI’m seeing exactly the same behaviour with Bioshock Infinite, which was my main reason for investing in the Beta unfortunately.
The game starts, but I don’t get as far as game play, it just Crashes to Desktop while trying to load my saved game. I am loathed to see if it is the game load that is part of the problem, as I am half way through already and don’t really want to start again (and when I move the save game files to a safe location, Steam just puts them back again).
I tried Skyrim, and that works wonderfully. I also tried Crysis 3, which does work as well, but I can’t set the FOV high enough for it to really be playable on the rift. I’ve not tried anything else, it was really only Bioshock Infinite I was keen to play.
I’ll try to do some more experimentation tonight, but multiple restarts, stopping everything else running, including Windows Defender didn’t yield any success.
Oct 2, 2013 at 12:52am #10637In reply to: Nothing works for me…
ibminarikParticipantI’m having an issue with Bioshock Infinite where VorpX itself keeps crashing. I get about 45 seconds of flawless headtracking (though with some strange warping that I imagine will be fixed with some tweaking) and stereoscopy, then VorpX crashes and the game runs in 2D.
Skyrim, on the other hand, works great for about two minutes, then the the screen freezes with ugly tearing artifacts, but the audio indicates the game is still running in the background. It’s a damn shame, too, since after getting a taste of Edge Peek I can’t go back to using tridef for Skyrim.
Don’t know whether it’s worth mentioning, but when I first installed VorpX, it caused all my games to crash to desktop, but a restart fixed that. Has anyone encountered similar problems, and if so, have you found any solutions?
Here’s my specs
Windows 7
AMD FX-8350
GTX 670
Kingston 250GB SSD (The game and driver are both stored here)

ZarkovParticipantThat’s indeed one of the weird things, because Aliens CM is running on unreal 3 and so is Bioshock infinite. Could it be some sort of multi monitor setting that’s messing things up?
Oct 1, 2013 at 5:39pm #10589In reply to: Nothing works for me…
ZarkovParticipantI’m not having any of the issues that you mentioned. I’ve tried Bioshock infinite and Far cry 3 with no issues. Also skyrim and fallout 3. I haven’t tried Mirrors edge jet, but I’m installing it now.
My system specs are sorta similar. I7, GTX580 (320.49), win7 64 bit.
However as I’ve only recently got my Oculus I’ve never bothered to install Vireio or similar software. Is there a possibility that Vireio is somehow inhibiting the performance of the VorpX drivers? -
