In reply to: Can’t get Bioshock infinite working
CrazyDolphinParticipant@FonzD86
I’m currently playing this game on a i7-8700, 16GB RAM, GTX1070Ti with a Valve Index (90Hz refresh, Motion Smoothing On). I’m not experiencing your issues with this game, but I have experienced similar issues with Outlast (where it supposedly has DirectVR available, but not for myself).
Aside from having to lower Image Zoom to its lowest setting (0.40), while in FullVR/Pixel 1:1, in order to get a stable image, the graphics for Bioshock Infinite have been absolutely gorgeous. With regards to your inverted head tracking, one of the sub-menus within Vorpx deals with HMD tracking (if memory serves), and I believe there are a couple options where you can invert the x/y axis (useful if no DirectVR is available).
Ralf would know for sure.
Best of luck with B:I. I hope it works out for you.Jan 4, 2022 at 4:54pm #208770In reply to: Can’t get Bioshock infinite working
RalfKeymasterSounds as if the profile for the game hasn’t been loaded correctly. Two possible reasons: either the profile database is corrupt or maybe vorpX can’t detect the game because its .exe is named differently than normally.
You can check whether vorpX was able to detect the game correctly in the config app. Since it is supposed to adjust some settings in case of Bioshock Infinite, there should be an entry for the game on the ‘Restore Game Settings’ page.
If not:
First please try a factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting). That would fix a potentially broken database.
In regard to the second option, please browse to the game’s install folder and check wehether the .exe is named BioShockInfinite.exe, it’s located in [Bioshock Infinite]\Binaries\Win32. Sometimes games use different .exe names for different editions. If that happens to be the case, it would great if you let me know so that I could update the profile.

RalfKeymasterHexen 2 is not supported, so in that case you would indeed have to do it yourself. The help that comes with vorpX as some hints in that respect in the ‘Essential Hints’ and the ‘1-2-3 Game Setup’ guides.
For Bioshock 1 and Infinite however vorpX does it automatically, at least unless you have disabled automatic settings. If you tweaked a lot of settings in these games, please reset the profiles to default and make sure that you didn’t accidentally disable automated settings in the config app.

JochenHParticipantSo Ralf I am sorry to make you upset! In fact I am a long time user of Vorpx and I read all stuff carefully. I added custom resolutions long time ago, I remember I did that when I had problems with Bioshock Infinite a year ago.
But I added much more custom resolutions yesterday. At least that shouldnt hurt, right?
I restarted Deus Ex HR then and could really change the quality from decent to ultra. Before it did not work! The game also looks now much better.
I later tried Dishonored 2, which also seems to take profit from the new resolutions. It now looks as good as it gets for a game not having geometry 3D.
Also Mass Effect Legendary works now much better with the new resolutions.
I guess that I did not add the very high resolution options before, also I added some fancy 5:4 or 8:9 resolutions now.

steph12Participantback in 2016 fullvr mode was G3D with headtracking, 6dof, automated fov with directvr scan, looks like things changed.
full VR mode cant be with Z3D when you dont have 6dof.
there are plenty of full VR enabled game, like skyrim, fallout 3, bioshock 1,2, infinite and many more but i have hard time understand why some games are listed as full Vr mode while they arent, i know for sure cp2077 is not, as defined since 2016 was fullVr mode was and is supposed to be.

RalfKeymaster@ moarveer:
The highest Clarity setting enables the texture detail hack AMD recommends developers to implement in addition to the actual upscaling/sharpening. How much of an effect that has depends on the game and also the resolution. You’ll typically see the highest benefit at low to medium resolutions (e.g. 1600p). If you happen to have Fallout 4 installed, that’s a good test candidate: With Clarity at ‘Full’ tree branches in the distance become more detailed, that’s fairly easy to spot. In Bioshock Infinite I found the effect to be less noticable on trees, but you should be able to spot it e.g. on masonry textures, more generelly textures with finer structures, at medium distance. That’s the typical effect you’ll see most of the time when switching from ‘Medium’ to ‘Full’: enhanced texture detail at medium distance.
Unless it creates noticable texture shimmering, choose ‘Full’. Depending on the factors mentioned above the effect may be subtle, but the option always does something – provided it is available for a game (i.e. the ‘Texture Detail Enhancement’ slider isn’t greyed out).
@ dellrifter:
Unfortunately there is no Z3D authoring UI that is ready for primetime. In the DX9 days some devs used all kinds of strange encoding methods for depth in RGB textures do deal with depth buffer access restrictions, I tried to capture them all. Most of that is obsolete since DX10, so in theory I could clean up the Z3D authoring and make it more accessible, but currently I have a huge list of things with higher priority.
There are about half a dozen DX12 Z3D profiles now (Cyberpunk 2077, Read Dead Redemption 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Resident Evil 8, Deathloop, F1 2021, Death Stranding, Grounded). They should cover the most common ways depth is handled in DX12. If you try them all for an unkown game and don’t succeed, an authoring UI wouldn’t give you a much higher chance of success either.

moarveerParticipantSo first, Bioshock Infinite can now be set up to high sharpness without crashing. I really couldn’t notice any big difference since the game was already pretty sharp, but it looked smoother performance wise, i don’t know if that makes any sense, nothing could make it stutter, playing with geo3d, ultra resolution in config settings and ultra quality in game options with 2080ti. Where I did notice the big improvement in sharpness was when in DLC 2 you go back to Columbia, I played the main game before the FSR sharpness update and it’s quite clear how much better it looks in comparison, but also performs a lot better, no matter that the scene was pretty packed, it was really smooth.
Also Borderlands 3 now works great, I reset the profile to factory default and FOV was fine without touching anything, also after DirectVR scan the tracking is top notch, perfectly smooth. I tried geo3d and it was playable, but I simply prefer higher res with z3d, setting resolution to ultra, sharpness to high and the game was perfectly smooth and looked great, really what a difference DirectVR tracking makes, the only issue is that it can take several tries until it succeeds.
So great work, thanks for the update Ralf!

moarveerParticipantthat’s AWESOME! I’m a big fan of Borderlands but I hadn’t tried Borderlands 3 since I wanted to play it VR but it was expensive. Now after reading this I’ve used the 10 euro coupon of EGS with Borderlands 3 and got it for 9,79 euro, really sweet for a game that can easily give you 30-40 hours of gameplay with the base game alone.
I can’t thank you enough Ralf, this kind of product support is incredible, no matter if any of those improvements get into the game, for you to even check it out and see if it can be improved is great.
Even if DirectVR doesn’t end making it into the profile, it was still good enough as it was so I will play it anyway in VR, however I really hope you can make DirectVR and FOV work. The thing is that after testing B3, when I go back to Bioshock Infinite DLC and play with perfectly smooth VR, no shaky cam effect, how easy is to forget how amazing DirectVR is.
Oct 14, 2021 at 11:09am #206745In reply to: What are your TOP VorpX experiences?
moarveerParticipantFor Bioshock 2 I suggest you try vanilla Bioshock 2, it works pretty well and way more stable, fantastic game with Vorpx.
Bioshock Infinite is mindblowing with Vorpx, but you better be immune to VR sickness, since the air rails gameplay will put it to the test.
Another great game for me is Kingdom Come Deliverance, it works with geo3d but it looks great even with z3d.
Dishonored is one of those games that I wanted to play with Vorpx, but it looks terrible with geo3d and performs really bad last time I checked, at some point I’ll try again now with FSR.
Oct 13, 2021 at 12:35am #206723In reply to: What are your TOP VorpX experiences?
Savant1984ParticipantDefinitely Bioshock 1 remastered & Infinite (2 I always found really unstable in VorpX and the Dishonored series.
The Arkham games are great, but I had motion issues with all the grappling (and I generally have a stomach of steel for VR).

moarveerParticipantI just finished Bioshock Infinite with FSR on at medium, no issues and looked great all the way. Now let’s see how the DLC works, but I can imagine there won’t be any issues.

onetooParticipantI tried Bioshock Infinite. There is a noticeable improvement in sharpness, reflections, and detail with FSR set to medium @ 3200×2400. Setting FSR to High causes a game crash. I also set sharpening to 1.20 which is adequate, but going too high also causes a crash. If the menu and Hud clarity could be improved, the game would be perfect.

RalfKeymasterGlad you like it. Setting the option to full enables a hack that AMD recommends game developers to implement in addition to the upscale/sharpen shaders. Didn’t cause a problem for me in Bioshock Infinite, but whether the hack is an actual improvement or not in general depends a bit on the game and the resolution it runs with.
The hack basically tells the GPU to load a more detailed version of a texture from memory than it normally would for the current pixel. When game devs implement FidelityFX they are supposed to do that in addition to the upscale/sharpening. vorpX can enforce the hack for every texture read (if available for a game). In some cases it doesn’t make much of difference at all or even introduces some shimmering instead of improving anything, but in other cases it does actual improve things. Easily spottable examples that probably everyone has available to try are trees/shrubs/gras in Fallout 4 or Skyrim.
Oct 2, 2021 at 1:48pm #206549In reply to: Everything broke after update
RalfKeymasterThat’s just a coincidence. Although it’s understandable to suspect an update to be the cause of an issue that pops up shortly after that’s not necessarily the case.
There have been no changes that could possibly affect Bioshock Infinite in particular. Also it’s incidentally one of the games that I check regularly before releasing an update.
Oct 2, 2021 at 9:57am #206543In reply to: Everything broke after update
RalfKeymasterPlease check whether the same happens happens when you switch to SteamVR. Also if you happen to have the WMR developer tools installed, please always make sure to NOT use the developer version of the OpenXR runtime. Always use the stable release build.
As far as Bioshock Infinite is concerned, please make sure to set the FOV slider to max in the game options as suggested by the message shown in the top/left corner of the game window. Otherwise vorpX can’t set the FOV right. The DirectVR scan may fail occasionally unfortunately. Scanning through a game’s memory to find single a addresses for head tracking is a fairly complex process. There is no 100% guarantee that it always succeeds. Hence the message in that respect that is shown during each scan.
