Happy but not happy someone has the same issue I have….. since the update fallout 4 will play nice for about 10-20 min. then the steam vr home screen starts bleeding in and out of gameplay …then screen goes black and no way to get it back until restart of steam. Been troubleshooting for days on this and looking for anyone with the same problem. Thought I wasnt moving enough and the vive was being put to sleep …not it and it will not happen outside vorpx use. Ralf any ideas??

Hello Not sure if it is related to the latest update but my vorpx in game settings (del)menu is missing the text associated with each button. What is strange is that this only only true for certain games Battlefield 1, Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Although I never had any issues with skyrim before. Currently the text shows up for alien isolation.

    help is appreciated.

@ Immersivegamer : Thanks for the kind words. I can’t promise anything regarding the controller mapping, but I will think about it. There are a couple of things to consider here. The two most important ones are that for one profiles/mappings are supposed to always work on Touch and Vive wands (and potential future devices) the same way, which limits options a bit. The other one is that I always try to find a balance between desirable customization and the ‘too-many-options-issue’ that somewhat plagues vorpX already. Always a tough decision to not offer a specific option that sounds absolutely useful on it’s own, but sometimes there may be a greater good that speaks against it. That said, your suggestion is worth to be considered, I just can’t promise something here and now.

BTW: If you can live without the DPAD, you can disable the “Allow Left Stick Shift” option, which will maintain the left stick’s normal functionality with the shift button pressed.

Not sure about your gamepad issue in Fallout NV. Seems to work as intended here in both keyboard/mouse mode as well as in gamepad mode, at least in a short test. Stupid question: did you enable the gamepad in the Fallout NV options?

The Bioshock Infinite Direct VR profile seems to be a bit wonky indeed. I almost feared that while doing it, but included it anyway since the game is just too good in VR. I’ll definitely check whether something can be done about the cutscenes issue. Having to restart the game after each cutscene isn’t good. Fingers crossed that there is a way to address it. If there is one, it will be done.

@ Tigger : Two reasons for the visible controllers: 1. It feels a lot more real if you actually see something, even if no physical interaction is possible. 2. The controllers always show the current button mapping, which I consider essential unless you know it inside out. There probably will be optional, more fitting representations for different types of games in the future (maybe wooden wands for fantasy games, a pistol for shooters etc.) for people who don’t need to see the mapping anymore, but there definitely should be something. It adds a lot.

Although my favorite games are atmospheric ones like fallout, mass effect, and deus ex, I have been craving some sort of RTS game, that has you looking down on the field of play like the units are little soldiers you can command. I think this would be pretty cool. Anyone know of any that work?

Does Skyrim:SE have positional Direct VR? I thought it was rebuilt on the Fallout 4 engine.

Not really sure what to recommend here besides trying to shut down all background programs running your PC (especially virus scanner) for testing.

Fallout 4 hooks very reliably normally, so all I can imagine is some conflict with another program also hooking into it.

Ok, so not only did some random flash game launch perfectly in Vorp (without me even trying) EDF 4.1, a console port, also started as well without any tweaking or anything – it even ran with a ReShade mod! What the hell is going on here? No matter what I do I cannot get Fallout to run in Vorp but every other game does it by itself.

Fallout 4 launches normally with VorpX on, but it seems Vorp doesn’t even try to start it in VR anymore. Zero reaction inside the Oculus, both launching with watcher oon and trying the direct desktop shortcut method. I’m stuck.

Update: Fallout 4 launches normally upon restarting computer with VorpX not started yet. Going to test with it on.

After eagerly buying and installing VorpX, I was extremely excited to try Fallout 4 in VR on my Oculus (CV1). To my extreme frustration, however, nothing I do gets it to run. Once I managed to get the Oculus to acknowledge that “Fallout4.exe” was taking too long to load, but that was it. Usually it just left me idling on the Oculus home screen. I’ve followed all the reccomendations in the FAQ section to no avail. Now, I cannot even get Fallout to launch at all on my pc without an instant crash. 6 hours of work for no benefit. I am very upset.

Please, if anyone has any help, I’d really appreciate it.

Did you run the Direct VR scanner after entering the gameworld/level?

If Direct VR is active, you should be able to use the gamepad natively. Both games have Direct VR. The vorpX gamepad emulation is only required without Direct VR for games that do not allow mouse + gamepad to be used together. Normally it gets automatically disabled as soon as Direct VR kicks in.

Apart from that your issue sounds as if walk/run are inverted, which you should be able to change in the vorpX menu.

I would highly suggest to play with Direct VR + native gamepad though (or even better the Touch/Vive controllers if available).

If you do not see any hint about Direct VR when you start Fallout 3 and Bioshock Infinite, reinstall vorpX. As of now the latest version is 17.1.2.

I just want to say a big “Thank you!” for the latest update! :)

I got my Rift + Touch setup in the experimental 360° setup.
Now I started Fallout 4 with it yesterday and after going through the “Direct VR” calibrations I was nothing but amazed to see the results. Being able to move, rotate and lean around corners within my play area is just awesome! I even activated the duck/jump detection to be able to kneel and activate sneaking. Worked like a charm!
The controller visualisation/implementation also works great. Since my head/body movement now translates into the game movements as well instead of this “you’re in a bubble”-feeling, moving with the controller stick didn’t cause any nausea anymore. Love it!
    Again, Thank you! :)

First off let me say how much I am enjoying the new update. 17.1.x is great and the new Direct VR function is really a vast improvement. The only issue I am currently having is that my scopes no longer zoom in on my rifles. The image changes to a appropriate cross-hair and whatever “vision” (nightvision, etc.) but there is no zoom effect. I’m using Oculus Rift CV1. Anyone else having this issue?

Sorry in advance for the many caps below. This is extremely important to understand, hence I have to emphasize.

If you want to play standing, please play standing IN PLACE unless a game has positional Direct VR! Standing in place always works totally fine.

As outlined above positional Direct VR is the ONLY way to be able to walk around in a decent manner. Otherwise you ALWAYS need to be in the center position for 100% correct head rotation, which is the reason for the re-centering. It’s difficult to explain, but since the position is applied retroactivley in that case, the rotation center WILL move away from your head with you moving away from the position center.

Again: ONLY games with positional Direct VR (e.g. Fallout 4, Bioshock, Aliens: Colonial Marines) allow decent walking around. Other games are not suited for walking around and should be played standing in place (or seated).

That said, you can see for yourself by raising the fHtRecenterDistance in C:\ProgramData\Animation Labs\vorpX\vorpX.ini. The value is the radius in meters.

You WILL encounter the behavior outlined above without positional Direct VR, which is the reason for the re-centering.

I didn’t understand why it is not possible to make an option to disable the automatic recentering. An option – as in keep it on as default and let people disable it at their own risk.
I mean – what can be worse than the sudden abrupt unexpected switch in your point of view that happens when it auto triggers now. This autorecentering is probably one of the worst things to experience in VR. It discourages the usage of the motion controllers by forcing people to keep playing seated with keyboard and mouse.
Also when it happens you need to tweak it back to normal. I mean – if you are away from your starting position it is obvious that you are there temporarily and you will want to return. Now when this happens you need to stop playing, go back to the starting position and force recentering again.
If you are afraid things may break with some games you can leave a warning with this setting as say it is experimental. We are all early adopters, we can deal with that.
I can imagine many possibilities for mods (for Skyrim and the Fallouts) if the player room-scale is unblocked. Pretty please, make it an option!
