Ok, for everyone who wants to use this, i tested a few games with it and its different each time, on some games it does not work at all, other games will not terminate properly.
So i think this can be partly used to wrap DX8 to DX9 on WIN7. It seems to behave just like that you have to try different engine profiles to get the game to work. (Vorpx seems to always hook) I will upload some profiles to the cloud for the games below soon as i have finished any.

Games tested with success (G3D) : Unreal 2, GTA 3, Madagascar.
No success (no 3D yet) Advent Rising, Die Hard: Naktomi Plaza

I just tried and didn’t have luck getting any type of 3D working with that profile.

I tried about 10 other profiles (Assass Creed, GTA, Just Cause etc) last week with no 3D luck.

I haven’t tried the newest Just Cause 3 profile fix yet come to think about it, but I already have my doubts. I’ll let you know.

Vorpx really seems to hate game controllers am i wrong? So using Xpadder to map keyboard to gamepad seems to work well for me but maybe it is not the optimum way but i read allot places about using it.

I am using 1600×1200 resolution, letterbox 2, low settings. Game still is pretty sickening even with a 1080 really need to keep it at 90fps when it dips below 70 it really suck. Also the game looks like shit. any advise?

I posted this another thread adding it for reference

Also this aiming with the head is kind of crappy anything that can be done about that? Partially aiming with gamepad but its not right with head screwing up the aim. Advise?

I am 90% there the only thing left is to tweak the FOV better. Should I be using flawless wide screen? Seems easy to use. I don’t see FOV working in Vorpex controls. This seems the hardest part.

This is my setup so far:

    System:
    Windows 10
Older CPU, and RAM( 4 years i think) – would a newer CPU matter.
    GTX 1080

    Steam VR:

    Theator off
Async on and advanced filter on ?
Not set for roomscale, standing only ?
Vive controllers not used just sitting on table.

    GTA V:

    No GTA VR mod used

All lowest settings -Should up MSAA or other AA, or any other settings up? things are pretty
jagged and fug-ley? A friend has a Vive pro would it look better with that?

    Launch options =- -1600×1200 – borderless -frame limit 0,
Is going beyond the 1280 x 1024 native any benefit??

    Vorpex:

Z Normal – 3d Geometry loses frame rates about 70-90 FPS – would 120 fps be possible?
    Zoom = .9
    Change game resolution = off
head tracking = on and roll
    HT Sensitivity = 1.45
    Cyrstal Image = off
    G3D3 = Off
    Fluidsync = off
Positional tracking = on / off – shrug is there difference?

Xpadder: Xbox One Controller – Vorpex does not let gamepad work correct?
WASD left stick, mouse move right stick, buttons and triggers mapped.

    Flawless wide Screen
    FOV= .34 setting

@ guillerodriguezv : On most systems GTA 4 only displayed a black screen with vorpX 18.1. If you did not experience that, nothing changes for you.

@ matteo39: It did not launch anymore, but will again with 18.2.0 (or the updated cloud profile that is already downloadable)

Unfortunately, the game keeps booting in 800×600. And if I try to change it, the game crashes. Just to be sure, I imported the VorpX cloud settings, and have the same issue.

What I think is happening (same thing happened to me) is that Vorpx is trying to select a resolution that GTA V doesn’t actually support. When Vorpx gives GTA V an unsupported resolution, GTA V defaults to 800×600.

You can test this by checking to see what resolution Vorpx is trying to force the game to use. Disable Vorpx, then try running the game normally, but with the resolution Vorpx had selected. I’ll bet you it ends up running in 800×600 again.

You could also uncheck the forced resolution option in Vorpx, and set your own resolution–try 1080p, since we know that is a supported res. I’ll bet that GTA V will then run in 1080p–not 800×600.

I ended up creating my own custom resolutions, testing them one by one until I found one that looked pretty good with out crippling my frame rate.

It’s been a while since i’ve tried gta and this thread is getting hard to find anything in. A couple of questions.
    1. Is there any way to get shadows working right with geometry 3d?
    2. Is there any way to change the graphics settings without it crashing and reverting to the old settings?
    3. If shadows do not work with geometry 3d, is there any way to ambient occlusion only on and working somehow.
    4. Why do my options always say the res is 800×600 when it’s clearly not?

    Thanks in advance

I use the fov mod and I just tested it (with and without) and it is working for me.

    https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/gta-v-fov-v1-11

Have you tried the GTA V VR mod? It has its own FOV handling ng method that overrides anything else. You can only use it via steam (set vorpx to htc Vive). It hasn’t been updated in a while, but still works.

    http://grandtheftvr.com

Are you using GTA V VR mod with a Rift? When I tried it on mine it looked amazing but the touch controls were all messed up–I could only walk in a diagonal line.

When you play GTA V with vorpx do you ever use a gamepad? If you do do you run into an issue in first person mode when walking backwards you walk forwards instead? It only happens if you aren’t carrying a weapon.

I play with the controller. I only have Dk2 but i have to play via steam since the head tracking doesn’t work with Oculus Home. Using the DK2 is probably why i don’t have stability issues either (lower requirements). Honestly, i only use it to drive using a wheel, but the few times i used a gun, i didn’t have any control issues with walking. I do change the settings to benefit using a controller more with the VR Mod (don’t recall the settings right now). One of my biggest issues with this mod is that i can’t save my changes. I talked to the dev a few months ago, and he said he would work on something, but i didn’t hear back from him.

    yesss thank you!!!

These are some of the resolutions I’ve used:

    1350×1080
    1400×1050
    1400×1080
    1600×1200
    1800×1600

If you want to run in higher res you can try dropping shader, texture and postfx quality.

I also prefer to use the FOV mod and I tweak the “zoom” setting in vorpx just slightly–to get fullvr vorpx really zooms the image in as a necessary trade off. You can zoom it out a little (make it smaller) which gives you some very slight letterboxing in return for a sharper image … there are also all sorts of “Increase your FPS!” mods out there you can try which are mostly just tweaked config files but they seem to help some people. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Wait, forgot–there is also a gigantic texture replacement mod for GTA V which is supposed to give a speed boost for people with really low end machines. You might try that too.

And one last thing–I use the Oculus Tray Tool to turn OFF ASW (it’s on by default) because GTA V seems to run much better with Vorpx if I disable ASW. I’d try that too.

at 800 x 600 it’s already wayyyyy too pixelated and shit… and it’s STILL not smooth. Are there any ways i can decrease performance? anyone knows some tricks to improve performance?

I have been using Flaweless Widescreen to set FOV in GTA V after disabling vorpx FOV and found that, not only did it look better IMO, I also got a better frame rate. Just recently, however, Flawless Widescreen and other FOV mods have stopped working with GTA V and Vorpx. Ralf says this has nothing to do with vorpx but I don’t know what other answer there could be since disabling vorpx allows the mods to work again. You could try experimenting with them and maybe you’ll have better luck than I’m having.

I’ve also tried a TON of custom resolutions to get the best balance of frame rate and visuals with GTA V. 1440×1920 looks the best on my system but comes at a cost. I’m not at my home PC but I’ll post some custom resolutions later that I find to work well with GTA V/vorpx.

There have been no changes in this regard. You can still disable The DirectVR FOV in vorpX and use another method. If that does not work anymore, the external fix may be broken due to a GTA V update.

I don’t think that could be it, One: because I’ve blocked GTA V from updating (I only care about single player+mods) and Two: when I disable Vorpx … the mods work again. When I remove vorpx from the equation, the mods continue to function. Therefore I think something must have changed in vorpx.

Could the option to disable vorpx FOV/other settings be bugged somehow? Before the recent updates, disabling vorpx FOV meant the other FOV mods would work just fine. Now it makes no difference.

You can apply a +/-20% offset to the pre-calculated FOV on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu though if you want.

Thanks, I did try that, but the effect is not quite the same and I lose quite a bit of FPS with vorpx FOV as opposed to the external options.

Just keep in mind that FOV for full VR mode is not a matter of taste, there is only right or wrong in this case.

Yes, and no. I am sure you are setting FOV correctly for the Rift’s FOV. However there is an issue with that and GTA V: If I extend my arm and pretend I’m aiming a pistol, the reality is I can see my entire arm extending out from my body. With vorpx FOV and GTA V, I see mostly my hand/hands and the pistol–in other words, the view is zoomed in a little too close to match what I would see in reality. It’s like I’m holding the gun up right in front of my face instead of extending it to aim.

Same thing with driving a car. When you are driving in real life you can see your entire arms reaching out to grasp the wheel. In vorpx FOV for GTA V, again you mostly see your hands and a little bit of your arms–which works against the feeling of immersion–of actually being present in the game world. It’s like you’re hunched up against the wheel while driving.

I’m sure there are other metrics in which the FOV you’ve set is the correct one–I’m just saying there is more than one way to be “correct” in this instance, even if some of those ways are in conflict with each other. And of course, they involve different trade offs.

BTW: Please post such things in the “Technical Support” sub-forum to help keeping the forum in an at least halfway structured state. Thanks! In the future I will move more posts without further notice.

Sorry about that, Ralf. I’ll be more careful to post in the correct forum in the future.

GTA 5 is G3D, yes thats what the list says. Where did you read that ?

PS: this is a “FANs” list and has nothing official to do with vorpX.
