In reply to: GTA V Issues

First and foremost: don’t overclock your CPU/GPU while using vorpX. Running games with vorpX is more demanding for your PC than playing on a monitor in multiple ways. Potential overclocking issues will show a lot earlier due to this.

    Apart from that:

A heavily underused GPU in GTA V is certainly not normal, that much is sure.

Maybe there is some VSync issue that caps the framerate. Please try to reset the 3d settings in your graphics driver control panel to the default values an then force VSync off there, just in case.

If you use anything else than Windows Defender, please also try to disable your virus scanner. Virus scanners that constantly scan memory operations may have strange and unpredictable effects, especially with Direct VR games.

BTW: You won’t be able to achieve steady 90fps in both games, even with your 1080ti, so it makes a lot of sense to leave Fluid Sync on in the vorpX menu with these games.

Well all VR is just 3D with headtracking. That’s sort of the core behinde the whole idea. I would say give it another shot and try to tune it in. VorpX does a great job of getting you there but depending on the game you gotta tweek it to match you. I don’t think your expectations are too high, I just think people under estimate how much work some people put into setting up the perfect experience. like videos of full vr gtav with motion controls looks awesome, but the set up to get there is a ton of work on your end. Keep at it and you’ll figure out what works for you.

I recently bought VorpX because I’ve seen a lot of videos where people were amazed about using it with GTA V, Skyrim, & Alien Isolation.

Well, I barely got GTA V to work. There’s still a lot of tweaking involved but I’m wondering if it’s even worth it because I am very disappointed. From what I have seen I would not call it virtual reality at all. I would say it’s more like you’re playing a 3D movie with head tracking and the screen stays in front of you.

I get that these games are not native to VR. But I expected better than this because these games are programmed using models/assets/sprites. So why can’t it actually look like you are placed in the space rather than feeling like you are interacting with a 3D video?

Honestly, I hope I am just doing something wrong and someone can point me in the right direction because I am very let down by the experience.

I haven’t used a whole lot with VorpX that has been playable for me. I tried GTA5 but I don’t think I messed with it long enough to get the settings right. I probably just need to apply a profile to it, (not sure if this is the same as using the auto-configure settings option). One thing I have been playing is Black Mesa. I’m having the time of my life reliving the Half Life 1 experience in the actual game world with great graphics.

I tried Batman Arkham City, while it did work, it just wasn’t the experience I wanted. It basically just shows the game to you in a cinema like experience and gives it a 3-d effect. It’s probably just the way the game is designed though that limits it.

I’d love to play through GTA 5, so maybe I should mess with that some more and try the profile thing? Sorry, I’m still new to VR and VorpX.

Please make sure that your GTA V is updated to the latest version, it also might make sense to disable/uninstall any other virus scanner than Windows Defender. Some invasive av scanners may prevent Direct VR from working.

And just in case: make sure to not use an “unofficial” version of the game.

You can also always play any game without Direct VR. vorpX provides quite a few ways to deal with FOV issues. To get started, please check the “Essential Hints Guide” and the “1-2-3 Game Setup” in the vorpX help.

I really can’t give you any other answer than the one given above and three times in the according thread, which appartently you read already. At this point the answer stays the same no matter how often you ask:

    1. The GTA V G3D issue occurs randomly.
    2. It should happen only rarely normally if you make sure that G3D is already enabled when you start GTA V.

I will let you know *if* something changes in that regard.

No date has been set yet. The last update was released just three days ago. Thanks for your patience.

The GTA V issues occurs randomly. If you had it working once, it will work again if you restart the game eventually. Just make sure that G3D is actually enabled when you start the game. It should happen rarely if that is the case. I have no idea yet what might cause this random issue, *if possible* it will be fixed.

Thanks for your quick response Ralf I did try restarting it multiple times and had no luck. It’s weird Saturday there was a Vorpx update and then it worked twice then after that it just stopped working. Do you think it’s some kind of memory leak or something?

I hate to sound impatient but do you know when the next update will be? I know in another thread Ralf you mention on fixing GTA5 G3D and I’m dying to play that again. I only played it for a couple of hours when it was working and I was blown away by it and that’s all I want to play now it was amazing.

The issue occurs randomly, it can not be solved by changing any game settings. The only advice I can currently give is:

    1. Make sure that G3D is enabled already when yout start GTA V. Normally the issue should occur only rarely if that is the case.
    2. If you experience the issue, exit the game and restart.

The issue is known and *if possible* it will be fixed in a later build.

It would be great if you guys could stop posting here for now, so others are able to find the current state of affairs fast. At this point there is no other answer than the one given three times already.

If anything changes in that regard, I will let you know. Thanks.

so I tried fluid sync it didn’t change so you know I am using your monitor it say between 17 35 fps game 45 fps direct mode when I run the gta v bench mark it is only getting what I thought 35 fps constrained at 45 fps will not go over this one thing also I noticed was that it disables my NVidia Gsync when running.what is weird is if I leave your game fps counter up and hit pause on the game when it comes to map of gta the fps goes directly to 90 fps on all modes

@Ralf – one idea – there was a GTA5 update just a couple days ago. Could this update be interfering with the G3D rendering? Have you tried the new update yourself?

if I run GTA on vorpx desktop I get about 90-115 fps but if I just use vorpx it will not go over 45fps I set it in NVidia and it still will not go over 45 fps any ideas for this. so when I only get 45 fps and lower I get really bad lag.also I set all the setting in gta 5 to norm no change.

Are you using an Oculus Rift? If so then it might be the Rift’s ow ‘ASW’ frame doubling tech that is locking your frame rate to 45fps.

If you have ‘ASW’ enabled on the Rift (enabled by default I believe), then the games will lock into 45fps if they can’t maintain a steady 90fps, and the rift drivers artificially insert an extra frame to create an artificial 90fps for display on the HMD.

Well i tried it as you suggested Ralph about 6 times and still have no G3D, just 2d. Z3d normal and adaptive works fine. Maybe something else is off kilter? I used the optimization option for GTA5 that comes with Vorpx, messed around with frequency, other resolutions, 3d strengths, start , stop restart and no joy. Maybe it will magically work when I get that new computer. Here’s hoping.
