The Skyrim engine does have its issues but it definitely can handle resolutions higher than 1920×1440 in vorpx. I am currently running Skyrim (old) with 15 visual mods at 2800×2160, high settings in main Skyrim menu…z-buffer…at 90fps, with the odd drop due to original engine optimization issues in certain cities/areas. This is a known Skyrim problem as it happens even in 2D in the same areas.
The reason I’ve asked here is due to what I originally said in my OP. I’m asking the vorpx community for input on the game running in VR not 2D…if anyone has any input on that.
Dark Souls community will only have input on 2D gameplay.
There are 2 different versions of DS 2…original DX9 and updated DX11. Ralf mentioned about 1 year ago that DX9 does both G3D & z-buffer…Dx11 only does z-buffer. (For strictly VR)…I’m wondering which one gives better performance…like Skyrim vs SE…one is better than the other in vorpx VR.
The Pimax is useless for Vorpx. 4k or 8k. I have a GTX 1080 ti and it has a hard time running games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 at native 1920×1440. I actually run at 1600×1200 and I’m not maxing out the settings at all, but I do have a few fairly intensive mods.
Phoenix:
Thanks for testing. I fixed my issues with Skyrim, so it’s only Bioshock Infinite. The place I’m talking about is about 10 minutes in, so it is very early in the game.
And yes, SKSE64 is out in a very early alpha, which shouldn’t be used for anything but testing, because it might break something unexpected. Still very awesome news! Only bad thing is I’ll have to wait a while before playing Skyrim now. FAllout 4 here I come ;)
nieda:
Are you talking about Bioshock Infinite or Skyrim?
I have Bioshock Infinite but haven’t done anything with it nor even started a game yet. I’ve only played Bioshock 1 & 2 in VR…they both run fine. I’ll try to try out Infinite in VR tonight to see if there is any problems similar to what you are saying.
In Skyrim main menu, I usually turn down the shadows setting to medium at most. Not sure if that helps or if you’ve tried that yet. It seems to help on my system.
Also, I think there is a SKSE64 alpha available now…released on Sept 12. I haven’t tried it yet but check google.
Congrats on the 1080Ti!!!
Fresh install of Skyrim SE, ran vorpX Config > Game Settings Optimizer, scrolled down to Elder Scrolls V – Skyrim SE, clicked “Optimize settings”, the box pops up saying “Settings applied.” so i click “OK” then click “Apply & Close” but when i run the game from the shortcut on my desktop its not working at all. Am i doing something wrong?
Cheers.
Ralf:
It’s Bioshock infinite and sadly it didn’t help. I tried to move on to the next part and there the stutter was less noticeable, maybe it’s just that part of the game. It’s the level called fairgrounds if you want to test it yourself.
Skyrim side question. Does turning off shadows through Vorpx help with frame rate or do I have to turn them off from the ini?
More tests. Skyrim runs better now. Both Oldrim and SSE. I’d say SSE has less stuttering than Oldrim, which makes sense, since it is less cpu bound. I can’t get the frame rate to go higher than 45fps on SSE with or withou async and/or fluid. If it’s vsync problem I haven’t been able to turn it off. I’ve tried the Vorpx optimizer, turn off-vsync through ini, but nothing helps. The said, it feels smooth, so might I just say to hell with it.
Turning off TXAA makes the image just as clear as Oldrim, so with a GTX 1080 Ti and my CPU, considering pop-ins, better shadows (even though they are a bit weird, so maybe I’ll turn them off) and general graphics I’d say SSE is the most viable option. If you don’t like the saturated look you can turn it down through Vorpx and/or install a mod like Climates of Tamriel.
Even with the annoying Bioshock performance I’m feeling pretty good about my purchase. I can’t wait for SKSE64 to be officielly out and play Skyrim SSE modded to hell!
I’ve tested some more. Seems like the problem with Skyrim was ASync was off. It run okay now and the fps dips I get are probably CPU bound.
With Bioshock I have no idea whats wrong. The stutters are massive even on Z-buffered, lower resolution or lower settings. I even tried without Vorpx and I actually get very minor stuttter in the exact same places. They are much bigger with Vorpx, though. Seems like it’s the game or maybe a bug with my setup. I didn’t get these stutters 6 months back on my old 980, but of course my frame rate wasn’t good on higher resolutions. Could someone test Bioshock with the first part of the game, mostly the fairground with all the npcs and games, and see if it’s just a problem with the game or maybe windows updates has messed something up yet again.
Lastly I ran Furmark for 10 minuttes (I was in a hurry) without a hitch, but my cpu got up to 100 degrees (C) when running prime and Furmark at the same time, which seems a bit to much. It’s clocked at 4.0 Ghz, which is stock clocking. Right now it’s idling at 53 Degress (C).
Tiggerdyret, I had some major performance problems with Skyrim using vorpx when first got my 1080Ti…it was so bad I gave up playing Skyrim VR for months. After that long period, I finally got back at it a few weeks ago. What ended up working for me was totally starting from scratch with Skyrim…meaning…deleting it from my computer (but not my save game files) and reinstalling it un-modded and totally fresh. After doing so, it ran incredibly well and I starting adding my visual mods and other things and now its running perfect.
This may or may not be the solution to your problem…but its worth a try…especially if you have the steam version…its as easy as clicking the mouse. Your save game file should be fine…but make a backup of them just in case. Also, a complete delete is the only thing that worked for me…verifying game files didn’t do a thing.
Hope you can sort out the issue!!
I have a lot of mods on my Skyrim, so there’s no need to troubleshoot me. I’m just saying that every time I have a game that stutters or has low fps, my CPU is always at 100. So that may be the issue for OP.
you shouldn’t have that much stutter with a 3570k do you have 16gb ram?
did you try manually going in the system files and changing the resolution of the game for skyrim to work well with vorpx ?
You probably have a CPU bottleneck. I have the same issue with my 1080ti and my i5-3570k CPU (I’m upgrading it soon). Open task manager and see if your CPU is at 99 or 100 when the game is running. VR and Vorpx take a good chunk of CPU, so does Skyrim. The only thing you can do is try to disable effects that use more CPU like particles and shadows.
Im thinking of getting vorpx to play Skyrim SE. I was about to buy it and was just wondering. Do they send you a BOX with a CD in the mail or do they send you a download link?
This works great!
One problem
The right grip button activates edge peak.
Unfortunately I often press this accidentally just when holding the controller.
Is there any way to disable the edge peak button?
Or is there any way I could map edge peak to another button that won’t get accidentally pressed all the time? Just the damn right grip is so sensitive and it is very annoying and dizzying when I keep slipping in and out of edge peak while playing. I only use edge peak for menus so I am fine only activating it from the key board when needed.
Also is it possible to map the right / left grip buttons to some in game functions? The touch controllers are lacking buttons like d-pad and R/L bumper which I used on x-box controller.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
