In reply to: Bioshock 2 (original) crashing?
RalfKeymasterFirst please check whether your vorpX is up-to-date, should be 21.1.1. There has been an odd Bioshock 2 crash issue for years, but that should be gone. At least I can’t replicate it anymore, no matter how often I try.
if it’s not an issue due to vorpX being outdated, it would be great if you could send me a savegame shortly before the crash occurs to check out to support at vorpx com.

moarveerParticipantHey Ralf today I tried Vorpx using Oculus instead of SteamVR and indeed it worked great. ESO worked like a charm with flawless performance at 1080p, I even managed to get it quite playable at 1440p with some AA and looked great, the two bars really kill a lot of the immersion, but I’ve to admit that scale is spot on that way.
Also tried Bioshock Infinite and it was buttery smooth and looked great too, so mistery solved, thanks for the suggestion, I don’t know what was the problem with SteamVR, but I won’t be using it much from now on.

mopokozParticipantHi Ralf, thank you for your answer.
My bad, the key bindings issue comes from Bioshock when it crashes.
I assumed that because its such an old game this kind of thing would have been fixed by now so I put it on vorpX, sorry.
For those having the same issue, a solution is to set to “read-only” the user.ini file in C:/users/<yourname>/AppData/Roaming/Bioshock AFTER your set up your key bindings.About the resolution, I’ve already set it to its maximum in the vorpX menu (I don’t remember the word.. “Ultra” maybe..) but I think this is still not enough to my taste, I have some ugly aliasing in the distance. Such a shame that in the “middle click” mode the game is beautiful and when you enter full VR this becomes less polished.
-Maybe this is because it reaches the max of the game’s allowed resolutions?
-Maybe I can change the SteamSS, will it affect the visual experience or vorpx bypasses that too?On the scanner I don’t use any third party AV programs. It just seems like some places work better than others to scan and succeed.

RalfKeymastervorpX doesn’t change any key bindings, except for maybe half a dozen games where it adds a hotkey for switching the FOV.
Resolution is handled by DirectVR in Bioshock and other games. Just let it do its thing, you can select a quality preset on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu. Whenever that is the case, you see an according hint in the top left corner of the game window. Please always check these hints as well as any messages vorpX may display in the headset.
The best you can do to help the scanner is making sure you don’t have anything running in the background. Most importantly do not use any third party AV programs. Windows Defender is more than good enough for several years now. Some invasive third party AV programs can cause all sorts of issues with hooking and the DirectVR memory scanner.

moarveerParticipantJust gave it another try, it didn’t work well. I reset the TESO profile and installed clean 461.92 nvidia drivers (which don’t have any form of 3d vision support). Used Oculus Link so no Virtual Desktop issues either. The first time it booted in game, and performance was terrible, still I noticed I had my old config (4k res, ultra settings) so I tried to lower it a bit. The thing is the game got stuck and I couldn’t get the game to boot into VR any more afer that.
Basically I start SteamVR and launch the game, Vorpx pops the message that it’s hooking, SteamVR shows the basic circles environment with ESO64 loading message, but it stays there, and the game minimizes to dekstop on monitor. If I click the game again to go full screen, on the monitor the game boots fine and Vorpx letters show in the game screen, but on the Quest 2 it’s still showing the basic steamvr environment with eso64 loading message and never gets into the game.
I’ve tried loading the game 4 times, it’s always the same. Now for comparison I tried Bioshock Infinite, the game booted fine in VR with vorpx and performance was silky smooth.
My rig:
ASUS PG278QR Monitor
Windows 10 1909
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @3.60ghz
Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4 3200 PC4-25600 16GB 2x8GB CL16
MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX
Corsair RM650 650W 80 Plus Gold
SSD M.2 2280 500GB
Gigabyte 2080 ti gaming ocSo this game hates me for some reason, or I don’t know what’s happening here.

lipplogParticipantsetting the FOV slider in the game’s options to max.
Maybe this is the issue. The hint for Bioshock Infinite is telling me to set the FOV to center, not max. Which one should I do?
NEVER MIND. I RESTARTED THE GAME AND IT NOW SAYS MAXIMUM.

lipplogParticipantThanks! I’ll reset the Bioshock profile to default and try again.
Unfortunately for me, reading the text in the top left corner is almost impossible with my eye sight. In real life I can physically move closer or magnify the screen for any small text. But with most VR interfaces, the UI stays stationary no matter where you are. I’m predicting this will change once programmer’s eye sight begins to go with age. Until then, I have to guess what most text says.

RalfKeymasterIn Bioshock Infinite per default the FOV is handled via an .ini edit, not with the memory scanner. Please reset the profile to default in the config app and afterwards make sure to follow the hint shown in the top left corner of the game window regarding setting the FOV slider in the game’s options to max. Without that the .ini edit DirectVR does has no effect.
Halo 4 doesn’t have an official vorpX profile. If there happens to be a user profile with supposed memory scanner functionality it’s unlikely to fully work, if at all. The scanner configuration is fairly game specific. Also scanner profiles don’t always include FOV. You can see what the scanner does and what it doesn’t in a game on the DirectVR page of the vorpX menu.
The G3D FOV Enhancement option can be found under “More 3D Settings” on the main page of the vorpX menu. Be aware though that in most newer games it causes too many visual glitches to be of much use.
BTW: A general way how to handle FullVR for games without automatic FOV adjustment is explained in the “1-2-3 Game Setup” guide in the vorpX help. The method described there isn’t always 100% perfect, but it always works. Additional information regarding FOV can be found in the “Essential Hints” guide in the help.

lipplogParticipantIn Task Manager, I Ended Task on Windows Defender, some Nvidia stuff, and a Logitec app for my mouse. The rest was Windows 10 system, Steam, or vorpx stuff. But FOV scan still fails for all my games.
I did try to fix Bioshock Infinite and Halo 4 manually, but (and I know I probably sound dumb), I can’t find 3D FOV Enhancement in the in game vorpx menu. Am I crazy, or is the setting missing in these games in geometry mode? Or do I have to turn off Direct VR memory mode for it to appear?
P.S. Three weeks ago, I was able to do it all manually for Resident Evil 3 2020, but it may have been partly the First Person Mod.
Feb 26, 2021 at 3:55pm #200763In reply to: alt-L issue (and bonus question :)
WarrieParticipantThat is how it normally worked, but now when I keep my head straight – after alt-L the ‘scan succesfull’ message is tilted and then when I open up the map, hud or other menu’s in Bioshock for example, they are also tilted about 10 degrees.
Tried a factory reset, deleted the room data of my G2 in WMR settings but that didn’t help. It does seem to be a Vorpx issue – in all my other vr games nothing is tilted. Weird eh :-/Edit – just did another test, I put my G2 on my desk (which is completely horizontal) and then did Alt-L – still tilted menu’s. When I use the middle mouse button to zoom out the HUD is perfectly horizontal, when I enter VR again it’s tilted.
I’ll try a complete uninstall and reinstall of Vorpx, see if that helps.
Feb 25, 2021 at 3:57pm #200736In reply to: alt-L issue (and bonus question :)
RalfKeymasterOnce you run the DirectVR scanner in Bioshock head tilt is handled by DirectVR, which makes the game HUD and any vorpX messages stay aligned to your view instead of always being aligned to the horizon. That is intentional, like wearing AR glasses showing a HUD would work in reality.
I’m not 100% sure, but your description sounds like just that to me.
Feb 25, 2021 at 3:32pm #200735In reply to: alt-L issue (and bonus question :)
WarrieParticipantHi Ralf, yes I continued with the original Bioshock – it runs much better indeed. But also there the menu is tilted 10 degrees after I do alt-L – I’ll do a factory reset to see if that fixed this issue. It’s literally in every game now. It worked perfect until I did an alt-L in Bioshock Remastered and immediately noticed after that the vorpx message and the in-game menus were tilted.
Good to hear you apparently already fixed the second issue :)
Feb 25, 2021 at 10:24am #200729In reply to: alt-L issue (and bonus question :)
RalfKeymasterI’m not really sure about your first issue. In some games the messages rotate with your head in FullVR mode. Sounds a bit like it would be just that, which would be perfectly normal.
Second one: Might be related to some glitch that I incidentally fixed just yesterday where sometimes the resolution calculation can yield a wrong result on game start, and thus the restart message is shown again although prior everything has been set up correctly. If all looks fine, you can ignore the message. If you still encounter the same issue after the next vorpX update, let me now.
BTW: Play the original Bioshock with vorpX, not the remaster. The slightly higer res textures aren’t worth it considering the better DirectVR support of the original Bioshock’s vorpX profile.

OgrescarParticipantXCOM2 – Z-Normal –
Although it was a game using Unreal Engine, this game did not become three-dimensional in the profile of Unreal Engine.
I don’t know what profile(s) you tried, but it is G3D Compatible with Bioshock Infinite.
