Something is weird with Bioshock 2 DX9. I can’t replicate any crashes anymore here, but if it still doesn’t work for you, the remaster is the way to go. I have spent dozens of hours looking into this issue over the years, nothing left to recommend than using the remaster if the DX9 version still is crashy for you.

    Update:
    – Bioshock 2:Vanilla continues to be a pain in the tuckus (repeatedly crashing at random times).
    – I downloaded Bioshock 2 Remastered, plain in desktop first, then applied the default VorpX profile. The game wouldn’t reliably hook, so I had to use ‘Hook Helper’ to get the game to boot up.

Results of playing the Remastered game so far:
    – One one crash in 3 hours of playing (yay!).
    – The graphics are not as good as the vanilla version, and the scale is a bit off (my weapons are larger and I feel like I’m short in the game. I did increase my height via VorpX.
    – Going to the next level in the game causes me to redo DirectVR (which can take a couple of times).

I do miss the cleaner graphics and more accurate scale of my character in the Vanilla version, but at least the game reliably operates, for myself, in the Remastered version.

If anybody does have any hints on how I can make the Vanilla version work more reliably, please let me know.

For Bioshock 2 I suggest you try vanilla Bioshock 2, it works pretty well and way more stable, fantastic game with Vorpx.

Bioshock Infinite is mindblowing with Vorpx, but you better be immune to VR sickness, since the air rails gameplay will put it to the test.

Another great game for me is Kingdom Come Deliverance, it works with geo3d but it looks great even with z3d.

Dishonored is one of those games that I wanted to play with Vorpx, but it looks terrible with geo3d and performs really bad last time I checked, at some point I’ll try again now with FSR.

Definitely Bioshock 1 remastered & Infinite (2 I always found really unstable in VorpX and the Dishonored series.

The Arkham games are great, but I had motion issues with all the grappling (and I generally have a stomach of steel for VR).

I just finished Bioshock Infinite with FSR on at medium, no issues and looked great all the way. Now let’s see how the DLC works, but I can imagine there won’t be any issues.

I tried Bioshock Infinite. There is a noticeable improvement in sharpness, reflections, and detail with FSR set to medium @ 3200×2400. Setting FSR to High causes a game crash. I also set sharpening to 1.20 which is adequate, but going too high also causes a crash. If the menu and Hud clarity could be improved, the game would be perfect.

Glad you like it. Setting the option to full enables a hack that AMD recommends game developers to implement in addition to the upscale/sharpen shaders. Didn’t cause a problem for me in Bioshock Infinite, but whether the hack is an actual improvement or not in general depends a bit on the game and the resolution it runs with.

The hack basically tells the GPU to load a more detailed version of a texture from memory than it normally would for the current pixel. When game devs implement FidelityFX they are supposed to do that in addition to the upscale/sharpening. vorpX can enforce the hack for every texture read (if available for a game). In some cases it doesn’t make much of difference at all or even introduces some shimmering instead of improving anything, but in other cases it does actual improve things. Easily spottable examples that probably everyone has available to try are trees/shrubs/gras in Fallout 4 or Skyrim.

Gave this a try today with Bioshock Infnite. In works great on medium, but setting it to full gave an awful visual glitch on BI and seemed to lock the game, so I had to close it. The image clarity improvement is fantastic, things look a LOT sharper even on medium, you can notice how objects far away are way easier to see clearly, and it actually added a lot to the immersion.

I have to admit that I never touched the sharpening option before so this is quite a big improvement for me, maybe others used to using the previous sharpening tool don’t notice it that much.

On the other hand, aliasing is a bit more obvious now in my case, still well worth it though. All in all a fantastic addition to Vorpx, I will be using it in all games from now on, or at least see how they work with it.

That’s just a coincidence. Although it’s understandable to suspect an update to be the cause of an issue that pops up shortly after that’s not necessarily the case.

There have been no changes that could possibly affect Bioshock Infinite in particular. Also it’s incidentally one of the games that I check regularly before releasing an update.

Please check whether the same happens happens when you switch to SteamVR. Also if you happen to have the WMR developer tools installed, please always make sure to NOT use the developer version of the OpenXR runtime. Always use the stable release build.

As far as Bioshock Infinite is concerned, please make sure to set the FOV slider to max in the game options as suggested by the message shown in the top/left corner of the game window. Otherwise vorpX can’t set the FOV right. The DirectVR scan may fail occasionally unfortunately. Scanning through a game’s memory to find single a addresses for head tracking is a fairly complex process. There is no 100% guarantee that it always succeeds. Hence the message in that respect that is shown during each scan.

I really can’t wait for this, I stopped playing Bioshock Infinite completely until this is released so I’m counting the days, I know I shouldn’t expect miracles but any image quality improvement will be more than welcome so I’ll test this thoroughly once it’s available. As always thanks Ralf for this kind of improvements, I hardly play anything else in VR other than Vorpx, even though I have a Viveport sub that I haven’t used for months.

I’m not sure it’s possible for immersive screen and cinema, but some games, like infinite bioshock, support room scale and location in fullvr mode. so you can peek behind a wall. the 3d effect instead is available for all games that support g3d

Can’t replicate that here, but in case you haven’t done that already, try to save the settings without vorpX first.

On a sidenote: Make sure to run the DirectVR memory scanner for better head tracking and automated FOV setup. If you happen to use the Remastered version, try the original Bioshock if possible. DirectVR support is a tad bit better with the original version.
