cornfzdParticipant
I tried the new January 26 update of “Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR” with VorpX and it was hanging the game video. I was trying Titanfall 2 in Desktop mode and the longest I lasted was wave 4 of 5 in Frontier Defense (10 min?). I tried 3 times, and it hung each time. In between I logged out or rebooted.
My system:
Samsung Odyssey WMR
GTX 1070
Intel i7-4770K
HTC Vive connected – but that isn’t booting with SteamVR unless I disable the Samsung OdysseycornfzdParticipantRalf, you mentioned that the other Windows Mixed Reality headsets seemed to work fine, it could be the Odyssey. I happen to have a Dell Visor and did the same testing. The games hung (tested Borderlands 2 and Mass Effect Andromeda in the Desktop Viewer). I even retested with VorpX in Administrator mode for MEA.
Observations:
* On my last attempt I noticed the games video hung, not the desktop viewer (can move my headset around). I saw this earlier when trying to run American Truck Simulator (outside of VorpX with the VR beta). The game seemed to be running as I could hear the audio. On the monitor game window the video frozen.
* The crash seemed to come later (minutes into the game) than I recall when I tried with the Samsung Odyssey (seconds into the game). Not sure if it matters much if they are both unplayable because you can’t play long.cornfzdParticipantdunkeroni, I second your finding with the WMR Samsung Odyssey. I tried DirectVR with Borderland Pre-seq, and Virtual Cinema with Mass Effect Andromeda. I tried both a couple time, with restarting SteamVR, VorpX, and the computer. It locks up after a very short time in game. The game itself seems to freeze as you can see your controller still tracked (that look like Vive wands).
I do not recommend anyone with Windows Mixed Reality buy VorpX until it’s officially supported. There is no way to get your money back, if it doesn’t work.
cornfzdParticipantI tried Planetside 2 for the first time today and it didn’t work with VorpX. I got the failed to inject/connect to the PlanetSide2_x64.exe.
I looked at the posting and tried what worked for another (compatibility mode), it still didn’t work with mine.
cornfzdParticipantThank rdtg, I tried it quickly and it worked. The only problems were the Orange/Blue crosshair was offset down. That can be replaced with a less obvious white one by type in the console “hud_quickinfo 0”. The gun itself isn’t 3D or very noticeable like in DirectVR, but the flickering is gone and everything else looks fine. I think this is the way to play unless the game profile gets reworked or works differently (perhaps like you suggest).
BTW: Generally I prefer DirectVR as it looked better with the gun, and had success with Aliens Colonial Marines.
cornfzdParticipantI tried the binding a key to -viewmodel_fov 120 and it didn’t do much for me. I thought disabling the virus software helped but not enough. What I was seeing was my portal gun flicker (pop up for a split second) mostly. Tried removing all other background apps but didn’t help.
Also I couldn’t optimize the game from “Optimize Game Settings”. I made my C: and E: drive userdata folders no longer read-only, but to no avail. I’m not using any symbolic links to my games, and Portal is installed on the E: while my Steam exe is on the C: drive.
I was excited to try Portal 2 at first but now I feel sick. Hopefully I’ll recover in a hour or so. Any advice?
Thanks!
BTW: I’m really excited to have VorpX. This is the first game I tried that didn’t work.
