deathorb i welcome you and agree with your points number 1,2,3.
i currently am playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, GTA San Andreas, and most recently GTAIV all with the most awesome G3D and first person mod among others.
I haven’t yet experienced Enderal for Skyrim using vorpX i should however but played SkyrimVR with nearly 300 mods at one point and it was incredible.
I love first person in VR looking around closely at things without a body in the way, i really don’t see how game designers don’t get it? really who wants to be a monkey on a some characters back forced to endure a painfull piggy back ride. I want to take on the player, I want to be the player I want to become the player game designers what are you thinking?

This message is for Ralf and dellrifter22 or whoever it may concern about running GTAIV using Vorpx with mods.

Thanks to your work on the new profile. I found the cause of the missing text issue. At least as far as Vorpx settings are concerned.

    This is what I discovered.

After applying the new GTAIV profile Ralf provided and entering the game I was immediately relieved to find the phone text was working now and on further inspection I found the menu’s were now working as well.

However the format in G3D mode was off for my setup so I began to make the normal changes I always do with any game to make it fit nicely in my Pimax8K hmd. After doing so and was again happy I left the apartment in game and tried to pause the game to look at the menu to my horror the text went missing again.
So I went and looked at each individual setting and found
the VorpX setting “FOV enhancement” is the cause of missing text. I usually max this setting out in the Pimax. So I incrementally decreased the setting from like 145 something and found the text doesn’t reappear until this settings is set all the way to 0.

I just repeat the FOV enhancement must be set to 0 in my case.

So I’m relieved that I can now save the game look at phone and computer in game and hopefully complete all story missions in VR using Vorpx.

On a side note Ralf I also found that moving the game from my HD drive to an SD drive fixed a problem I was having on start up of the game.

    Now back to the game

    Thanks Ralf,
I really appreciate you taking the time to add this featured new profile. I will give it a try hopefully sometime later today. dellrifter22 appears to have the text working in his vanilla version so maybe it is a mod i have installed. Again thankyou! For me driving around liberty city in car or motorcycle from a first person perspective in these games, looking down and seeing a full body really enhances the VR experience. I know people love their 3rd person games as I do to but in VR especially the characters body is always getting in the way blocking the view.

You should be fine pintman getting this game to run in VR with your 1080. With the broken text I have been playing the mission also on my 4k tv. Bouncing back in forth trying to experience the story through the missions and great cutscenes and freeroaming in VR. I never new just how good this game looks not having as nice a GPU when I last played. Never got into modding GTA before its not that difficult really one you aquire the basic tools. Was not bad at modding SkyrimVR with at one point nearly 300 selected mods. Very different modding that game compared to GTA.
I will try to look at what earlier essential vids I checked out and important bits. Possibly provide some tips later to help get you started. Yeah with the Oculus Rift and the 1080 you should have no problem, I’m trying to drive a Pimax8K with higher resolutions.

Thanks for your further suggestions dellrifter22. It’s nice to know that the text is showing for you using G3D. It than is very possible a mod is breaking the text somehow. Today I had a chance to do some more modding to the game after having a frustrating morning even trying to get it to work at all the game would stop during start up. Yeah I really need to try again the vanilla and add mods from there. Again good suggestions I will try later.

    Hello pintman,

I have so much nostalgia for this game having played it on the xbox 360 back in the day.
Let me know if you end up getting a VR headset like the rift and are able to play it in VR it is definitely some next level stuff. I would recommend having a very good GPU if you want it to run acceptable. I use a GTX 1080ti and it is just barely acceptable fps wise the way I like to play graphics fairly sharp.I have an iron stomach when it comes to this sort of thing and do not suffer from motion or vr sickness.
I like how you described it as the GTA worldscape R* has created.

I’m trying to remember the necessary steps I took to get the thing to work in VR and modded. I’ll try to provide that here later.

In the mean time their are some youtube video’s on the subject that I used.
Unfortunately I’m having difficulty in completing some missions in VR do to the missing text issue but for free roaming and the now and then mission completion its amaze balls just even walking around in first person taking on the body of Niko Belic.

Hi Ralf, Probably not many will jump through the hoops of getting GTA IV working in first person mode buy I will say it is amazing the stereoscopic 3d pops as good as any VR experience when settings are dialed in properly. I have tried yesterday dellrifter22’s suggestion unfortunately the texts on phone and in the menu’s do not show up using whatever vorpx mode immersive screen, z adaptive still no go.
Having played through all of Resident Evil 7 i’m very good at using edge peek being essential in that game at least when i last played it.
If you have the time to look into this it would be great. Besides SkyrimVR and Fallout 4VR and probably more than those I found playing GTAIV using Vorpx with first person mod, at times more realistic and immersive that those two made into VR games. It was the closest thing I have honestly experienced to entering a living breathing lifelike Virtual World. I may try GTAV again but last time i couldn’t get it to work as well.
There is something about the open world design of these gta games having such attention to detail the sounds effects everything works so well in VR for what VR can be using Vorpx.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
It’s unfortunately as dellrifter22 describes I can see the phone and menu just simply no text. I will try his suggestion later today to switch from G3D to Z3D with hotkey.

Thats a hardcore mod, definitely not for a beginner, you must have put much time in the game to play at that level. I wouldn’t advise anyone new to the game who wants to see the story through to the end to attempt using such a mod no way. I’m glad you had such a great experience using the mod. If you try this game using vorpx please let me know, I would be interested in hearing an others experience with this game in VR.
I suggest vanilla for first timers or better yet the vanilla with complete mod especially with the difficulty of running in VR with VorpX.
I have found many mods also seem to not work well using vorpx for this game. Unfortunately the lighting has to be set to static for some reason the shadows and light cause severe ghosting and misalignment and especially as I play fully maxed out Fov enhancement vorpx setting, makes the game dimensions truer to real life, amazing I felt I was standing next to a train in my living room yesterday and the tank dimension is huge this is truly amazing sorry for carrying on but its somewhat mind blowing for me still to game like this.

If someone decides to try this game using vorpx after what I have written here, I would be glad to help with settings or other things given my limited knowledge it took a while and i seem to always have the best luck when I just experiment with settings there are some critical things you would want to know however so your experience isn’t a complete failure just let me know if you need some help getting started. I don’t frequent this forum but I may check now and again since as you can see for me to type this much on a forum I’m pretty happy about my recent experience using Vorpx with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. To have such a good gaming experience with this old almost antique artifact, it really is quite unbelievable. Who would have thought?

Just to add i have completed the Lab x18 mission and have dropped of the documents to the barkeep. So i’m pretty far into the game and with current settings not experiencing any crashing using Vorpx and my settings. GOG version with Complete mod and my own game data tweaks and Vorpx settings. One of the best experiences i’ve had in gaming this way. Just to add noticed this morning when I look at a truck for example in game it looks life size as well as building size and dimensions look real with geo3d it nice because when i look up all I see is sky and when I look down only ground textures no box’s, no room or stary sceen only game, not that that the others are bad if you only can use them better than nothing but geo3d is the way to go if you can and want to be entirely in the game world.

thanks for the question and kind comment steph12. When considering your question I really had to think back. Like you I also feel this game is such an amazing experience vr or no vr. Nothing as good in this area and obviously there has been much love for this game as it has been used as inspiration in so many other newer games and mods. But S.T.A.L.K.E.R SOC is the best and the source of everything to follow.
In answer to your question no I have not completed in VR using vorpx. A long time ago I tried playing it on the Vive and never was satisfied with the result may have had settings off or something. Now I hope to play it through completely in VR using Vorpx. Every thing is great so far accept a small problem with micro stutter where the entire frame shifts on the microscopic level. Hope to get a fix somehow for this one and only issue.

Thanks dellrifter22 for your helpful suggestions and reply. I’ll try to adjust some more things. I was able to get the game looking pretty good in z-adaptive or normal yesterday and played through a lot of the game that way and actually looked pretty good.
