In reply to: Use kat walk mini to walk in games played with vorpx
wiizzthebeastParticipantKatwalk has now an official Keyboard Mode per page 8 of their Katwalk C+ Enhanced user manual:
https://download.katvr.com/product/literature/KAT%20Gateway%20Guide.pdfBut I have not seen a single video where they show it.
But I guess you can also get re-wasd or Daendaralus/IndeX360 mod from Github. (https://youtu.be/CV6gzzfCzRo?is=b1m8YrcdgOAkqVIe)
There are many options as I can see to play all vorpx games with the Katwalk.

DomyosParticipantThe infamous black bar at the bottom for Quest 3 users in full VR. I can only imagine how enjoyable VorpX must be for those who don’t have this bar; unfortunately, for many of us, it’s not feasible. I admit that VorpX has so far kept me busy on Saturday mornings searching for a solution with a friend who has been using VorpX for many years with a Valve Index, and thanks to him, I don’t regret my investment. After struggling and struggling again, scouring all sorts of videos and tutorials, tweaking settings and tinkering with every kind of thing, we’re still hopeful. Ralf, would you be so kind as to look into this? ;) ;)
Feb 18, 2026 at 10:20pm #222855
RalfKeymasterIn general yes. vorpX doesn’t care whether you have base stations or not. The only caveat is that an Index without base stations almost certainly only sends rotational head tracking data to SteamVR, for positional head tracking it needs the base stations unless they do some heavy guesswork. Not impossible, but unlikely. That has nothing to do with vorpX though, it’s just how the Index works.

BoFlo24ParticipantHello, sorry if this question has been asked before (I’m assuming it has been).
I’m looking at buying a Steam Index headset, but all I want to do is play regular PC games through the headset, not actual VR games. I couldn’t find a straight forward answer online, but I wanted to know if the Index base stations are required to use the headset with vorpx? I’m guessing you don’t need them, but I wanted to ask before I buy the Index.Thank you

in forum Technical Support
rbturcottParticipantHi,
Using PC with Valve Index, no VR controllers or Xbox type controller. So trying to use keyboard and mouse.
On starting Fallout NV, things seem to start and hook in. Steam VR starts and the game boots to the start menu but is displayed in a window to the left. In the centre is a panel with a couple of hints and to the right is some more help in another panel.
Only Vorpx functions appear to respond to any keystrokes or mouse in the headset.
Mouse disappears outside of any Vorpex function or panel.
There is no way to do anything outside of Vorpx fuctions at this point. Game is displayed on my regular monitors, partially across two monitors. Alt-Tab works, sort of, to get out of VR, but mouse is gone, keyboard sort of works outside of VR. I have to log out or reboot to get mouse functionality back.Plugged in an Xbox controller to see if that would make a difference, but no luck.
Note, I do not know if this is specific to the game, as this is the only game I’m using it for. It used to work years ago and I’m only just revistiing this game after quite some time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

BoblekoboldParticipantThere is already a topic with a lot of them :
You can check engines&games here :
https://rjkole.com/gamestuff/engines/index.phpOr looking for the game on the forum.
Or just trying it (the only way to be sure).
From my personnal experience, best profiles are :
Originals Bioshock 1&2&Infinite
Originals Metro (I tried 2033 it has perfect G3D and 6dof) and Redux versions (I tried Last Light Redux and it was perfect but I recommand a top end graphic card with this Redux version, without even knowing if it’s better than standard)
The ascent (and some others Unreal Engine 4 games) works well.
Black Mesa (&Xen), probably Portal and Dark Messiah.
People say Dishonored, Titanfall 2, F.E.A.R, Mirror’s Edge, Fallout 3, etc. works well.
Probably Clive Barker’s Jericho & Undying too.
Originals Stalker works with good G3D but without adavanced lighting (DX9 only).Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro Exodus and Farcry Primal works well enough (and so probably Cry Engine games like Prey 2017 / Crysis 1-3, and Snowdrop Engine games like Facry 2-5)
Even if concerning Metro Exodus, I prefer Z3D during most of the game (except bunkers&spiders which are great in G3D) in order to have raytracing, at least on Reverb G2 (no compression, so it’s stunning).
Some Z3D profiles are very close to G3D (Atomic Heart, Frontier Of Pandora, Unreal Engine 5 games seems to work great from my experience).
I may be wrong, but I think most DX9 games probably have perfect G3D, and some DX11 games too.

austintParticipantHello,
I am a Pimax Crystal Super user and I am also having this issue to the tea. It’s obvious that Vorpx isn’t rendering at the actual resolution of the headset. The “screen” texture does have the correct screen resolution.
While running in Vorpx I looked at my SteamVR resolution and it’s at 7640×7688 (crazy high resolution lol). So, SteamVR should be reporting the correct resolution to Vorpx.
Instead, it feels like it’s still using the resolution of my old Valve Index.

MarozakiParticipantI’m using AirLink or SteamLink for MetaQuest 3, but after about 5 minutes the left and right images start to get out of sync, freeze, and move up
and down.
This happened with both the standalone version and the retail version, and it was the same even when I changed the image quality.
Ray tracing is turned off in the in-game settings, and the FPS is high on the flat version.
The refresh rate is 72MHz for both MetaQuest 3 and SteamVR.
The wireless connection is Wi-fi 6, but I don’t have a wired connection or virtual desktop so I haven’t tried it.
I recently upgraded to an AMD RX9070 and started playing Cyberpunk VR again, but I can only play for 5 minutes at a time.
Previously, I was able to play without any problems with Valve Index and AMD RX6800, but since I switched to MetaQuest 3 which has high resolution, I would like to play at ultra resolution.
When I check the SteamVR performance graph, I occasionally see purple lines indicating display errors and light blue lines indicating network latency, but I don’t experience any lag or freezes in other games.
If anyone has experienced similar symptoms, or knows the cause or how to resolve it, I would really appreciate some advice.Translated by Google.

Jul 24, 2025 at 2:57am #221726In reply to: Does Amnesia The Bunker work with VorpX?
BoblekoboldParticipantVorpx gives you stereoscopic 3D, so it’s not like native VR, it’s more like using a 3D TV IMHU, but if you think that would be fun, give it a try!
VorpX is like native VR with a lot of games, but usually more beautiful, clearer&sharper with more display options, and most of the time no motion aiming / handling (it would require a mod). Some games even have great 6dof camera.
I don’t know about this game. There is an unofficial profile in the cloud section.
This game seems to allow an high FOV (something required to get proper full VR). You should usually choose a value around 112°.
So if the profile has headtracking & G3D, it’s probably like native (with the right resolution & FOV). It it has only headtracking and Z3D, it’s like native but with a lesser type of 3D.
Considering this is an unofficial profile, it’s hard to say what it does without testing it.
This game seems to use HPL Engine.
According to this website :
https://rjkole.com/gamestuff/engines/index.php?selengine=HPL%20Engine
there is G3D sometimes with this engine (Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Amnesia: The Dark Descent).
If it works, it probably require to play the game in DX11. This game seems recent so I don’t know if shaders will work in G3D without an official profile.
DirectX12 usually only allows Z3D but if there is a profile, it probably works.Jul 20, 2025 at 12:44am #221680In reply to: Jurassic Park: Evolution 2

</Graphics>I played the entire Jurassic World campaign with VorpX, but that was a few months ago. I would have to relaunch it to be sure but it’s what I remember. It’s probably my last VorpX settings, because I couldn’t play with 5120×3840 on my monitor.
So like in most games, my settings were :
– resolution : 5120×3840 fullscreen
– max graphics
– no “motion blur” and no “depht of field” (because I don’t like that)
– raytracing : on
– DLSS : offI used ClarityFX and sharpness filters (probably at max) to enhance image quality, and I probably lowered the gamma in VorpX as I usually do (but not in the game options)
I used headtracking with Immersive Screen (with vertical curvature and relatively low distance). I probably used edgepeek a lot.
—
From what I can see, I simply added JWE2.exe to Dellrifter22’s profile. I don’t remember if I used a hook helper, etc.
—
You can also use Reshade (SuperDepth3D) with VorpX Desktop Viewer. I tried it with VorpX on this game, but the image quality and performance were worse (like if ClarityFX wasn’t working) and even 3D was better with VorpX alone in my opinion. VorpX is also easier to launch and it saves settings so you don’t have to reconfigure it every time. In addition, headtracking is great with this game (you can disable it when it’s not useful).
May 20, 2025 at 5:13pm #221426In reply to: Higher resolutions?
Cless_AurionParticipantBoth images look terrible in your pictures.
Well, they are raw images 2k images downscaled from almost 5000×5000 resolution output.
The UEVR looks worse (since its actually rendering at 4860p), the VorpX one… actually looks better than on the HMD.It can be a profile or configuration problem (maybe the wrong type of 3D, etc.)
It is in all games, in all types, from flat 2D to geo3D and any normal configuration.
Its like if VorpX internal resolution has an arbitrary ceiling it won’t go past for some reason. This is ugly even in 1080p. You shouldn’t be able to notice it on a 1080p monitor
Yeah, the image quality of VorpX is only SLIGHTLY better than on my VivePro… which has SIX times less pixels than my current HMD…
If the image quality is so bad, I guess it’s because you weren’t able to record correctly the output ? In this case I don’t see how we could compare.
I exported the raw output, that way they are comparable, its what its being fed to the HMDs.
I tried to take regular screenshots, but UEVR in 2D mode won’t play ball. Why do you want to use VorpX instead ?
I want to play all my games in VorpX (even the ones that won’t hook and will need to use the desktop viewer!).
I’ve been using VorpX for almost a decade now, and my dream since was “Having 4K-like resolution on an OLED HMD, so I can play all the games in VorpX!” … and its very sad to get finally the HMD that can do it… but now VorpX is the one that is bugging out (or limited in some internal way) :(I’m also a professionnal game developper (and I have advanced 3D modeling, animation and rendering skills too but it doesn’t really matter).
Awesome! A fellow gamedev and artist too to boot then!
I’m a professional indie and AAA game developer specialized in 3D Character creation! Moved to Japan and everything to make my gamedev dreams come true and everything hahaha
If this forum had DM’s I’d definitely send you a couple to chat about it lolThere is no way I can see blurry letters in VorpX.
I know right?
Even the G2 has more resolution than the image I sent! (you can even see the aliasing in the letters!)But as we said, you may be right on a PPD limit. I wouldn’t be able to tell with my current VR headset, which is already better than most.
Nah… far from the PPD limit still (sadly lol, its “only” around 45PPD).
Since you have a G2 it is easy to realize. For every 1 pixel the G2 has, the MeganeX8K has 3.
I’m not even getting to the 24PPD from the G2 in VorpX right now I’d bet :(I never use auto resolution, but most peope do, and as far as I know it limits resolution (it depends on game profiles).
Make sure you disable it if you want to play in very high resolution.
Of course, first thing I checked! I also disabled any sort of AA on both, to make the aliasing more obvious in both images and make comparisons better (very noticeable in the bridge ropes!).
Anyway, with hooked games, if you don’t see any difference between resolutions above 1440p or 2160p (or even 3200p), there is a problem somewhere, because it’s not the usual behavior.
I thought so too! That’s why I tried to reinstall a couple versions.
Reinstalled GPU drivers… and nothing.
The HMD is SteamVR native, so it should be acting just like the Index or any other native SteamVR HMD :/Everytime I tried, UEVR was particularly bad in 2D screen mode (a lot of aliasing and there is no curvature so there are distortions).
Dammit, weird again. That is exactly the opposite experience to what is happening to me.
In UEVR when I put it in 2D mode, not only the FPS boost up massively (due to all the processing that is not being done), but all aliasing instantly disappears (which… to be honest, makes sense, its stretching like a 4000×4000 image on a small square in front of me, instead of stretching it all over my FOV lol)——————————————————————————–
With the extreme resolutions you are mentioning, I think only the virtual monitor can reach, although it might currently be limited to 4860p max in the vorpX app.
That’s the thing. I made sure that in both instances, the game is running in 4860p. (I tried both by launching from the desktop, and the normal way without any differences)
The framerate matches 4860p on VorpX, the computer is using the GPU at an expected level… its just that VorpX isn’t showing the detail for some reason.
There may be be other special cases.
I tried many games, all of them max out at that very specific “VorpX” resolution. So does the desktop viewer (even when the desktop or the games are clearly set at 4860p!)
It’s important to note that you must have these custom resolutions created for a game to be able to recognize and display them. You test and create these in Nvidia Control Panel for your physical monitor, or the vorpX config app for the virtual monitor.
Forgive me if you already knew all this. I only mention this on the chance you are skipping something. like editing a game’s ini resolution without first creating the monitor custom res to match.
It’s the in game selected resolution that matters, not the SteamVR slider.
Nono, please, thank you for taking time to reply at all!
I did try all that. I made sure the games are ACTUALLY rendering at that resolution (checking not just the settings, but also GPU usage and FPS and such).
It really does just feel like there is an arbitrary “ceiling” I can’t pass when using exclusively VorpX :(
My SteamVR resolution is set at roughly 6100×5600, which basically 1.5x the resolution of the MeganeX8K (using up 100% of the panel’s image quality, which makes it equal in pixel density to a 4K 32″ monitor at regular viewing distance). And don’t use the Desktop Viewer (not to be confused with the Virtual Monitor) for games, always better to hook in with vorpX the intended way. Even for 2D play. The viewer is just capturing the desktop, performs worse, and looks pixilated.
Yeah, I tried both, just in case anything changed… and it didn’t :(

BoblekoboldParticipant@ Cless_Aurion :
As I said on the other topic, you may have a problem, or unusual expectations (PPD sensitivity regardless of actual graphics quality ?)Maybe it will be patched (if it’s a real problem).
As far as I can tell from my experience :
– PPD aside (I don’t care and I don’t even notice it), there is a HUGE difference between 3840p and 2160p in VorpX with my Reverb G2 in most games. You can see so much more details…it’s just incredible.
– as far as I know, VorpX’s image quality in most AAA games in full VR / immersive screen has no equal (UEVR is a lot worse, at least at medium/long distance, I never got the same result I can have in VorpX, and I’m not the only one). It has been confirmed by other people even several times on Pimax Crystal Light (2880p).
– In VorpX, you can see every detail miles around with a displayport VR headset like Reverb G2. Most people use a Quest 2/3 with compression and are very far to this quality anyway.
– some people used a Pimax 8k here so they would probably have noticed your problem if they had it.About the desktop viewer, image quality seems fine if I don’t activate SBS mode and if I choose correctly the resolution. With SBS mode, it seems to be worse the only time I tried (but maybe it wasn’t VorpX’s fault because of course another 3D program was implied, and anyway it was still better than UEVR).
This is still an issue in V24. It looks about what I could expect a 1440p HMD (like the Vive Pro/Index) to look as.
That’s definitely not normal. I don’t know exactly what you are doing, but VorpX image quality is far beyond a 4k monitor (it displays a lot more details which wouldn’t even exist on a monitor…)
It’s better than any real video I watched (including mines in 8k).
Maybe you don’t use VorpX as intended.
I personnally use it to play in full VR, or alternatively to wrap a giant hemispherical display around me (very close to full VR).
May 17, 2025 at 3:11pm #221417
Cless_AurionParticipantThis is still an issue in V24.
Its now inverted for me, and it is far from usable. It looks about what I could expect a 1440p HMD (like the Vive Pro/Index) to look as.It literally is pushing me away from using VorpX AT ALL, since this seems a limitation on VorpX itself not being able to render at higher resolutions (not a filtering issue at all, my HMD pixels are way smaller than the chonky pixels its trying to render)
My HMD moves around 50% more pixels PER EYE than my 4K monitor (8 million pixels on a 4K monitor VS 12 million pixels per eye on my HMD).
@Boblekobold
8640×4860 (the highest resolution V24’s allows me to set) looks as bad as 1440p does. Resolutions under that will look worse, but no resolution over that looks better. The center of the vision of my HMD tops at around 5500p, which should match a 4K monitor of 32 inches PPD wise, so again, not a filtering issue, and the fact that 4860p looks identical to 2160p is worrying. -
