@Ralf. I’m using the vorpx UI scale down as well. but it only goes to 50% right? without tweaking the skyrim.ini I still can’t see all the menus.
I agree that no UI in your face is better while playing, but if you make it transparant ingame its still ok I think. Kinda feels like some scifi visor overlay :P
Hi,
First just would like to thank Ralf and his efforts, OVR should be kissing your ass for expanding their product’s software library to such a degree.
Now that I’ve kissed a little ass, would ask if there might be a solution to my skyrim problem with head tracking and geometry mode. Only in geometry mode I get this flickering on all of the ground and wall textures whenever there is movement. I have tried all of the following:
– graphics drivers fully updated
– rift extended mode, set to display only on this screen
– various skyrim.ini configurations (deferredShadows, turn off shadows completely, etc)
– happens on a clean skyrim install as well as when modded
I also had this behavior when using Geometry mode with the old vorpx versions and skyrim on DK1. Setting to Adaptive or other modes gets rid of this completely. Unfortunately this also does not allow for the good positional tracking, 3d is not as good. Everything else is running great, good framerate, just can’t resolve this geo mode flickering, last hurdle to full playability.
my rig:
core i7 4960 3.6ghz oc to 4ghz
32gb trident ram oc to 1.4ghz
asus nvidia gtx titan
side question: what determines which 3d modes are made available? is this hardcoded in the vorpx application somewhere or determined based on the target application’s directx implementation?
Hey all,
I have looked for a topic on this but to no avail. I have these drivers working perfectly in Skyrim and Outlast. It looks great for a retro fit, I have no issues there. But I have had 3 BSOD’s now. 1 in Skyrim and 2 on Outlast. I have barely played these games for any amount of time, I only got the drivers last night and tested a little today. My system is fully stable and does not BSOD on any other games or programs, this has only started to happen with these drivers.
My question is, is there a known issue that can cause these, and how can it be fixed? And, If and when it happens again, what would you need me to collect in terms of data to help resolve this issue?
Im running a i5 4670K @ 4.4Ghz, RoG Maximus Ranger Vii, Avexir 2133C9 8GB RAM, MSI 780ti GPU 2x HyperX SSD’s on Windows 7 64.
Many thanks
Skyrim’s UI can also be scaled with vorpX (display page of the ingame menu or [ALT] + mousewheel).
Personally I don’t really like that, immersion is far better without an UI in front of your face. But that’s just my opinion, of course.
I noticed that when I turned off “handle gamepad internally” it subsequently turned off head tracking with it. Is there a workaround for this bug as I much prefer to play on a controller instead of mouse/keyboard.
Hi pczombie,
The first vorpX window that pops up when you start Skyrim tells you how to adjust the FOV in via Skyrim’s built in console.
If you haven’t done so already you might also want to take a look at the documentation that comes with vorpX. Saves a lot of head scratching. :)
For those who like me struggled with the Skyrim UI on the Dk2..
If you add these lines to your skyrim.ini (my documents/my games/skyrim/)
[Interface]
fSafeZoneX=300.0000
fSafeZoneY=150.0000
fSafeZoneXWide=300.0000
fSafeZoneYWide=150.0000
the interface/menus will be closer to the center so you can actually see it :) You can make it more transparant in the ingame settings so it’s not blocking your view so much.
if i set dk2 as primary monitor. new error your s\display doesnt support the selected resolution
Ok make your vorpxd settings exactly like this:
home.comcast.net/~sonofman2/vorpx1.jpg
You can change the type of lens cups and IPD if you need.
Make sure you have rift setup in extended display mode and is NOT the primary display in windows settings.
Now reboot your computer. Run vorpX. Run the oculus DESK DEMO scene and then close it. Now run skyrim see if that works.
feeling sad. spent 2 hours with this trying to launch skyrim but no luck.
Yes, at 100 fov I can get it looking great at max depth without having to change the vignette and scale as bcozier mentions but I also noticed when adjusting settings for Skyrim if I lowered the fov from 120-to 100 to get the scale of the hands right (larger) the scene no longer looks deep enough at max depth and then I have to mess around with the other settings to try and get it looking squared up again vs. being able to increase the depth (or is there a better way to adjust that?). I prefer to be able to get a 1 to 1 real life sense of scale & depth if possible so I first try to get a near object to life size by adjusting fov, then adjust the depth & aspect ratio until the rest of the scene looks to be the correct dimensions. So when I start increasing separation it looks more and more correct until it hits a wall at 5 and isn’t quite there yet like it would be perfect at “7” if I could raise it that high.
Ok, flickering, mouse control and view problem was the 360 controller. Unplugged it and everything was normal. I was able to change fov to 120 and it looked much better. Somewhat playable now.
Now, however, ingame the VorpX menu just flickers then goes away making looking around menus impossible.
I need to try and configure keyboard bindings now to see if I can get Skyrim playable.
By rotating the screen in the Nvidia console I get it to look somewhat right in The Forest; just need to tweak some things probably, but it is somewhat playable.
Also, after doing so, Skyrim will actually render; however it gives me an odd view as both eyes show a view looking directly up and directly down simultaneously. Moving and looking around will not change the view. And some input seems to be constantly keeping the mouse centered when I try to change settings for VorpX.
Progress, but still a ways to go.
So I finally get a program to draw on the Oculus DK2 (Batman Arkham Aslyum), but it appears sideways with one eye view on top of the other instead of side by side and the display oriented on its side as well. The VorpX overlay is there and everything, the game is just not displaying right in the DK2.
So how do I get it to draw correctly?
The same configuration with Skyrim just continually throws a Failed to render error and the game won’t even start.
Thanks for this, I hope more people share stories about what games work best. Now I wish we get Modern Warfare 2 compatible with Vorpx too since I haven’t played that one yet.
Be sure and let us know how you liked it too, so people may not think it’s just me :) It is incredible. The great thing too is that the game engine is very fast not as demanding as say skyrim, but has all modern day visuals. A really cool effect too is when you walk down the streets and the wind blows those paper or leaves in the air and it comes close you you…you feel like you can reach out and touch it. I will try to make a video of this later.
Hi, I just started with my DK2 for the first time and tryed Call of Duty and Skyrim but I always have 2 “pictures” when I look though the rift.
Can someone tell my what I’m doing wrong? I tried the past x hours to get it work, but still those two seperate pictures/screens when I start one of these games.
Please for some help – thx
