Skyrim is tested on a regular basis before each update due to its still surprisingly high popularity. There is no general issue with the game. As always with heavily moddable games please first check whether your issue also occurs without any mods installed. Only if that is the case assume that it might be a vorpX issue.
Mods that should be disabled first are any graphics enhancing mods like ENB and CPU/GPU memory consuming mods like texture/model packs, expecially if you are using the original 32bit/DX9 version of the game (Oldrim). Since vorpX requires a fair amout of both CPU/GPU memory itself, using vorpX with a heavily modded 32bit Skyrim with huge texture replacements may just be too much for the limited memory that is available for 32bit processes.
Hi, just to confirm this also seems to effect non-ENB Skyrim.
I have (had) a very stable install until the last update, I fired it up for the first time in ages today but couldn’t load anything – now it just crashes as soon as the save finishes loading or I launch a new game.
If VorpX is disabled it loads and runs fine on the monitor.
If you are new to vorpX, you probably want to hop right into the action instead of learning how to configure vorpX. The list below contains first person games that work with litlle to no configuration in ‘Full VR’ due to vorpX’s DirectVR functionality, which can configure important things like field of view, head tracking or resolution automatically.
For third person games that are usually played best in immersive screen or cinema mode not much configuration is required in general, so this list focuses on first person ‘Full VR’ games that can be a little harder to configure without DirectVR.
If you are stuck, make sure to check the ‘Essential Hints Guide’ and the ‘Quick Reference’ in the help. They help you understand a few basic concepts.

all the Borderlands games work amazingly, very good 3D and the art style suits these pixel arrays.
I always thought the Borderlands games had an RPG element to them like Skyrim or Far Cry. I’ll check it out. Thanks.
I would like a rollback function aswell because I have a similar problem as the OP. Played Skyrim + ENB in the evening with 18.2 and the next day vorpx updated itself to 18.3 and now I only get a black screen.
I reseted vorpx to factory default.
Reseted Skyrims INI files.
Updated nvidia drivers.
Updated ENB’s dlls.
Not even ENBoost without the graphics enhancements is working. Vorpx does hook (I have sound, can load saves etc) but I can’t see anything and the biggest problem is that my Skyrim is so maxed out on mods that without ENBoost TESV.exe goes over the 2.8GB memory limit instantly and just crashes.
And in terms of whether a rollback option is a support nightmare or not, one question: Will I lose Windows 7 support eventually because “we can’t support everything”?
The Oculus software tells me everytime that Windows 10 provides the best performance and Steam charts show that more and more people are using Windoes 10 instead of 7/8…….
I want to give an update. I made a complete backup of all Skyrim related folders and programs (NMM, Loot, Wrye Bash…) and make a clean install of Windows 10.
You won’t believe it but now I can play Skyrim like it was before (with a little tuning of Windows 10, cause it’s heavily overloaded with background programs, I think it even runs better like before on windows 7). It seems like the time of windows 7 comes to an end maybe cause of such errors…
The only guess what causes it is for me (sorry Ralf for another assumption :D ) maybe a DirectX related problem. But I’m not really into this to know…
I hope I could help some people which have a similar problem.
The new update broke Skyrim + ENB for me. I just get a black screen in Rift and a small grey square in the top left corner on the monitor. The vorpx overlay works and I can change Full VR to Cinema Mode for example where I look at black screen also (but I do see the cinema around me). It works without ENB like normal.
I reseted vorpx to factory default.
Reseted Skyrims INI files.
Updated nvidia drivers.
Updated ENB’s dlls.
I know ENB was always prone to bugs/crashes with vorpx and only worked for me at least with the injector but it DID work. I don’t use vorpx for anything else so it would be very nice if someone could help me.
Running Windows 7 x64 by the way.
Thanks a lot!
Yes that is one way to play Skyrim vanilla. Please don’t get me wrong but I don’t want to mess around with my Skyrim configuration any more. It takes me weeks if not months to get everything to work. And it runs almost perfect since over half a year. If I now change anything from my current settings it could be that I can’t play my savegames never again. Maybe there will be a solution soon. Another way I can try if it’s not vorpX-related is that you send me a old vorpX version so I can test if it runs like before :)
If not then really strange things happen. Cause the crashes occurs no matter which savegames I load. And I didn’t change a bit on my system (software) since this happens. Other games still running perfect with vorpX. For example, I play Gas Guzzlers Extreme with the G3d profile at the moment. There are no problems even with Ultra settings!
Yes I have gone through this huge problematic with Skyrim + mods + memory limit (and vorpX too) for about months :)
The memory limit of 32-bit version of Skyrim was (and still is) the main problem while playing Skyrim. I have fixed most of the related crashes with using ENBoost (without graphic enhancement).
After this and a lot of other fixes I’ve managed to get it run very stable and have played since then for hundred of hours. Since then vorpX updated a few times. But never any problems, until now…
Thanks!
I really have no AV-Software installed. I only have Windows Firewall (as security program). But I have also disabled it and played Skyrim. But it still ctd. I can accelerate the crash a bit if I for example cast a lot of spells in short time. So maybe it has something to do with going out of ressources… But the crash comes anyway after a few min.
I’ll check that, there have been very little changes to the DX9 renderpath between 18.2.5 and 18.3.0, but who knows.
Just in case the usual AV software hint: if you use anything else than Windows Defender, try to uninstall it completely (some can’t really be disabled otherwise) and see whether the problem persists. Windows Defender will kick in instead. Especially with games that have DirectVR scanner support, some more aggressive AV programs can cause severe issues. Such issues may appear seemingly out of nowhere when they encounter a new vorpX version they don’t know.
Also check the memory usage of tesv.exe in the task manager. 32bit programs like the original DX9 Skyrim can only address 2 (some 3) GB of memory. Since vorpX requires additional memory, heavily modded Skyrim installs might get pushed over that limit. The same applies to GPU memory, even more actually. So if you use huge texture replacement packs, try smaller versions if available or remove them (at least for testing purposes).
Hello,
right the moment after the new update 18.3.0 installed on my computer Skyrim crashed. This happens everytime after max. 3 minutes when I load a savegame. It doesn’t matter which…
I changed nothing on my system between the time when Skyrim worked (with the vorpX version before) and after the patch. I even installed the update a few more times and checked and try all the options in vorpX a thousand times. Before this I’ve played Skyrim for months! without problems. The reason must be the new vorpX-version.
It would be a very great idea to make earlier versions of vorpX available to download for exactly this kind of reasons!
Some info on my system and Skyrim:
I have a GTX 1070 (8G VRAM), i7 3720, 8 GB RAM, SSD-HDD, I’m playing on Win 7 x64, using a Pimax 4k (btw. best 3D goggle I’ve tried)
Skyrim is Legendary version, a lot of mods but a very clean install, I also using ENB injector (never causes problems before), SKSE loader…
What strange thing I recognize when playing was that for some reason (only after update of vorpX) it can’t really attach to Skyrim. I have the normal g3d view and I can also enter vorpX menu and change everything but in the background appears the message that it can’t attach to skyrim and asks me to close the program…
Why this occurs now with the update?
Please help me, I’m addicted to vorpX ×DD
First off, I’m aware that ENB/SweetFX/etc isn’t supported, which is why I’m only asking for an older version.
After the latest automatic update, I can’t get the enb injector (not the wrapper, which uses conflicting dll files) to hook along with vorpX. This worked fine in every version until now.
This was needed to play Skyrim with Vorpx and graphics mods, now this isn’t possible.
I’ve ruled out everything else mentioned in the troubleshooting guide, ruled out any conflicting program, the only difference in this case is the new version.
I was holding off on Skyrim VR until mods catch up and important things like SkyUI are working some day.
I’ve also searched for similar threads & questions, they generally don’t get answers or replies, so I also sent a support email in case these get handled that way.
Why would you want to when it has native VR now?
because you can run the game with nearly all the available mods with skyrim + vorpx including amazing mods like enderal, unlike the skyrim VR which does not allow enderal and many others amazing mods.
Sorry for the late of my answer. I didn’t mention before, but I use the custom resolution of 2880×2160 with antialiasing at 8x and the anisotropic filter at 16x.
I know that sounds ridiculous, but the image is so good, far, far better than Skyrim VR. This is one of the reasons I keep playing the original 32 bits Skyrim vertion with Vorpx.
