A VorpX profile for SKSE is never used, there is no point in creating one. The SKSE exe file is a launcher that simply starts the game and VorpX (and ENB if you use it) inject into the game’s process.
If you are more curious about how SKSE works :
” skse_loader.exe actually launches Skyrim and then hooks the memory location for loading a main system library to load that original library and our skse library.”
Since there is a confusion about Ralf’s question: VorpX config makes changes into the ini files of the game that are located in the default and usual location (in My Documents). However MO has it’s own actual copy of those files and the original, default ini files are not used at all. So if you play using MO running the VorpX config app will have no effect. You will need to manually copy/paste the content of the optimized ini files into the ini editor of MO. This is the complication that Ralf is fixing now and it only concerns MO.
I copied the Skyrim profile into a new VorpX profile using SKSE as the game EXE. Then I start the SKSE through MO2. All settings and mods load up as expected. I use the STEP:extended mod list with a few extra mods installed. Stioll in the process of swapping out the 4K mod for ones that are a little more VR friendly. Been too busy playing DCS and Elite Dangerous to finish setting up Skyrim.
i installed oculus and revive but when i set vorpx on generic or oculus rift no
thng happens im still in steam vr room the revive shows up on dashbard when i launch skyrim so i click on it wirh controller trigger. I think ralph said earlier to use steam vive so i wont run oculus when i try that next. 3 am im pooped.
So I’ve been really considering getting Vorpx but I can’t find a definitive answer on whether games will work with the touch controls and track hand movements or if you just use a mouse & keyboard or controller. Can anyone give me a definitive answer on this? I’m really interested in playing Skyrim in VR but if I can’t use the touch control it might be a deal breaker.
Thanks for any and all responses.
You should definitely take the BethINI tool into account since it is now established and popular.
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/69787/?
It manages and optimizes INI files for the following games:
Oblivion, Skyrim, Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 4.
If general support for that were added it would cover usage in all of these games, which would save trouble later. Perhaps people would be able to share ‘optimized for Vorpx’ ini files.
Thanks for your work.
no i removed oculus as i got an error first time i set up lenova but i think it was the displayport to hdmi adaptor so i switched my monitor and lenova hdmi connector.
steam vr seems to work without controllers as i am able to use the free bigscreen software from steam that uses keyboard, and the demo the lab loads but as touch controllers dont work i cant play it. i dont have option for admin rights on steam vr
icon just vorpx has admin rights for launching but doesnt work when i try skyrim with settings on generic
I’m not completely sure about the -ini files, but it’s a very good idea to prevent any kind of incompatibility and provide maximum compatibility with any of the programs or tools very useful for modding:
Nexus Mod Manager, Wrye Bash, Tes5edit, Boss, Loot, Oblivion Mod Manager, memory fixes, Enb (at least version injectors) e.t.c.
It’s hard to remember at this time, but I’m interested in going back to mod
Skyrim/Oblivion/Fallout 3/Nv in the next update.
Today I added support for ‘Skyrim Mod Organizer’ managed ini-files to the new settings optimizer. The question is whether there maybe are more tools that also keep their own copies of Skyrim.ini/SkyrimPrefs.ini and thus should be considered when adjusting game settings.
If you are aware of any others, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
There is definitely 3D when setup properly, Skyrim and Fallout 4 especially with Geometry 3D. Many games have Geometry, and when it doesn’t, some form of Z-buffer 3D is usually available.
I’m not sure why you are having this problem, Ralf or someone should reply. Just wanted to reassure you that vorpX does indeed add stereo 3D to supported games, which is after all half the point of playing games in VR. And it has a “full VR” mode alternative to cinema screen that when coupled with proper fov settings, gives more of that “in the game” feel.
Perhaps there is some conflict with 3D Vision drivers, again I’m not sure, only fostering a guess.
Hello everyone :-)
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read through this!
I’m having an issue with Portal 2, where basically I can configure everything just fine for the game to run under Vorpx, and I’m even able to launch the game successfully, start up a new game, but after the first few frames of the game appear, the game basically hangs/freezes, and I have to close out the application from the computer side. I have tried fresh installs of Portal 2, but to no avail. I’d love some suggestions / help with this! I’ve been able to play Skyrim just fine, along with Fallout 4. This is the first game I’m having this problem with.
I am able to run Portal 2 on my desktop without Vorpx running, just to note.
Thanks again everyone!
Edit: I am using a Vive (and I have all Vorpx settings set accordingly). My system specs are: i7-4770, 32GB ram, NVidia GTX 1080.
It all works for me.
Start the WindowsVR app, then the SteamVR app, then OculusVR, then VorpX. So far I’ve tried DCS, HL2, Skyrim, and SkyrimSE. So far everything has worked. The Virtual gaming theater works as well. I run the VR programs as administrator so that might be making the difference if you are not.
How to run programs as administrator:
1. right click on the program icon.
2. Left click on the “compatibility” tab.
3. Left click on the “run as administrator” box.
Do this for all 3 VR managers as well as VorpX.
This will insure that the program will run in administrator mode each time you use it.
Thank you. I spent about 5 hours yesterday getting my STEP install of Skyrim working. Ther have been a couple of conflicts but I’m about a 75% done getting 247 MODS working in VR. My SkyrimSE install is heavily modded as well. I will be swapping out all of my 4K texture mods for a little more FPS versions this weekend but it looks awesome in VR. Will let you know how both endeavors work out.
If you want to further increase performance you can add a custom resolution to your SkyrimPrefs.ini like 1080×1200 or 1296×1440. These match your HMD screen ratios without waste. Also a good idea to add them to your custom resolutions list in Nvidia Control panel, and test if they will pass on your TV first.
So would I be better served by using my HMD resolution? I have an Odyssey so would I use a resolution of 1440×1600 (one screen) or 2880×1600 (two screens)?
I think you can fix the big hands issue in normal Skyrim with the Enhanced Camera mod. Install and enable experimental third-person hands in the mods .ini.
If the more vibrant colors is what you liked about SE, you can nearly match them by adjusting the color saturation and brightness level sliders in the vorpX game menu (press Delete key while playing, arrow over to the “Image Settings” page). While you’re there, slide the sharpness up as well.
I also use the Imaginator mod from Nexus to further adjust color lighting. Grab the Enhanced Camera mod as well, great for first person pov.

If you do this however, you may need some additional mods to adjust the hud and dialogue system like: EZ2C Dialogue Menu, Less Intrusive HUD, SkyUI away (for easier looting), etc.
Things should look and preform pretty decent this way, it may give you enough boost to try Geometry 3D if you want.
