VorpX and Skyrim SE have been working (mostly) great! I have one small issue.
Somehow VorpX is getting rid of real time shadows. If I launch Skyrim SE normally through Steam, I get shadows. If I launch VorpX control and then Skyrim SE, it hooks and everything seems to be working, but shadows are gone. I do get an error dialog from Steam saying “SteamVR failed to initialize for unknown reasons (Error: Shared IPC Connect failed after multiple attempts (308))”–but VR seems to be working fine, it’s just the missing shadows. Oddly it works fine with regular Skyrim.
Are shadows supposed to work in SE?
Things I’ve tried so far in case the answer is yes:
– Rerunning optimize from the configure dialog
– Deleting skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini from My Games and trying both with and without VorpX optimize
– Reinstalling Skyrim SE (making sure to delete from steamapps and My Games to ensure nothing was left behind)
– Enabling shadows in the in-game VorpX menu. It works, but I get a nasty right/left eye discrepancy I wasn’t getting in normal Skyrim
– Rebooting my machine
Both are going to be just VR mods added to the base game system. They can say whatever they want but the fans know its just a VR mod. The Skyrim VR will make its way to at least the Vive I’m sure after they role it out for PSVR. Mods will be available for both games too. Its Bethesda, there will be mods for these 2 games in VR, have no doubt in that. The CK will get an update sooner or later. Mite be a few years but it’ll be there. They mite roll out creation club as ‘the only way to mod’ the VR versions but that will last about a day before the comunity eats them alive lol
Thank you.
Also vorpx does hook into skse.exe which is good because otherwise enderal says skyui doesn’t work properly.
Quite frankly I’m amazed no one else seems to have these issues!? Skyui requires skse.exe!
VorpX doesn’t need to hook into skse_launcer.exe
You don’t need to change the Skyrim profile. It works out of the box with SKSE.
Added:
Enderal comes bundled with SKSE and SkyUI. You don’t need to install them.
I expect to keep playing both games with VorpX even after the official ports are released. Mostly because of mods.
What we know now:
1. There is no mentioning of mods support in the PR Begtehsda is doing for the games whatsoever. This is very unusual for them.
2. The VR ports are new games and not editions of the old games. Bethesda doesn’t allow porting assets between games so no mod can be ported from the flat game into the VR port.
3. There is no mentioning of Creation Kit for those ports been released. And it is not possible to predict if/when community created modding tools will be developed.
4. Additionally – there is no official info about SkyrimVR been exclusive -temporary or not, to PSVR. There are several articles about it that quote “a Sony rep”. Bethesda has never done game exclusivity and it will be very unfortunate if they start now. I hope SkyrimVR will launch on PC in November together with the PSVR version. If not – I’m still not sure how to react to that.
So I’ll probably buy the official ports out of pure curiosity but I plan on continuing playing Oldrim and FO4 in VR with VorpX.
LOL
Hooli … Pied Piper … ID… Zenimax
Ridiculous drama and litigation. It’s all real!!!!!!! :o
Looks like the consumer looses out in the end. Sad ;(
But when millions->billions of dollars are flying around it’s no surprise that the fighting gets intense.
I wonder if Zenimax would bring the hammer down on Ralf and Vorpx for competing with their VR Fallout4 and Skyrim too? Maybe just fly under the radar….
Looks like Skyrim VR was also announced as well. Unfortunately only for the PSVR. I wonder if they will do Vive and Oculus?
Coolio. thanks, better do a good old fashioned re-install – better find those save files…
SKSE.exe is a launcher but is the best option for modded Skyrim I think.
To be honest Enderal and Skyrim don’t look that graphically impressive anymore – even in VR with a gtx 1080.
So unless someone works out the fabled VR SLI that was mentioned by Nvidia a while ago – then those old school games are just too old. Which is a shame because the modern games like, Battlefield one, Rainbow six and some others, don’t run in geometry 3D – which is crap!
I hope that the Fallout 4 VR mode shall change my mind.
With Direct VR enabled the gamepad works natively in Skyrim. If you play without Direct VR, the vorpX gamepad emulation (or an external program like Pinnacle profiler) can be used to map the gamepad to mouse and keyboard. If that doesn’t work for you, please try to reset the Skyrim profile to default (config app, trouble shooting page).
If you suspect the custom resolution you are using to cause a problem, please try a resolution that the game supports officially. For Skyrim 4:3/5:4 resolutions are official resolutions, which also is the ‘normal’ recommendation for vorpX. 1280×1024, 1600×1200, 1920×1440 depending on your PC’s performance. 4:3/5:4 resolutions are easier to handle than uncommon aspect ratios, are less prone to cause issues in games and also have advantages in regard to how vorpX does its custom “timewarp” interpolation.
Hooking: only the main .exe is supposed to be hooked. I would assume that to still be TESV.exe with Enderal, but I’m not really sure since I never tried it. Neither any launcher nor SKSE.exe should be hooked by vorpX, only the main game .exe.
In general please also check whether issues with a heavily modded Skyrim also occur without any mods installed. If not, find and remove the offending mod(s). Unfortunately it’s impossible to keep track of and support the thousands of mods availabe for the game. This is also the first thing to check in case of a failing Direct VR scan. Some camera mods for example supposedly use different memory locations for the rotation, which would conflict with Direct VR. Other mods may cause similar issues.
I have previously tried to use the forum but entered my password wrong 3 times and gave up! It turns out you don’t use your vorpx password on this site – you have to register separately. Wasted a lot of my time I will admit. Who would of thought…
I am wondering a few things –
1- I received an update to vorpx the other day and my headtracking and gamepad stopped working in Enderal Skyrim. I can use Gamepad without headtracking and even headtracking with controller emulation – but it feels janky and awkward.
I also deleted my ControlMap_Custom.txt around the same time.
This was to get a gamepad shortcut mod to work properly – could this be the culprit?
I recalled you saying that you have a solution for gamepad and mouse at the same time in Skyrim
How to use Xbox controller with… anything?
Can you shed light on this please? It’s the reason I brought Vorpx..
I have tried every permutation of options as well – but it says rotation failed – and looking with a mouse does not work if controller is active. Although as I said – It did work previously.
2- The books and dialogue in enderal are disappearing of the edge of the screen – probably because of the 1280 x 1440 resolution I have set.
Performance/Quality Tweaking with Custom Resolutions
Is there a fix for this as well?
3- I also set SKSE skyrim as the exe for Enderal – all other options do not hook (enderal.exe and skyrim.exe) Despite other profiles suggesting other wise – do you know why this is? And why cant I set SKSE skyrim as the .exe for the default vorpx profile (it wont allow me..) This seems odd.
THANK YOU!
without your program VR would be just a gimmick!
Do you use the “Internal Resolution Upscale” in the vorpX menu? If so, please reset that to 1.0 for the Z-Normal 3D mode, it only works correctly with Geometry 3D. Instead you can raise the resolution manually in your SkyrimPrefs.ini, which is just as good.
1600×1200 or 1920×1440 are quite nice quality wise. If your monitor doesn’t allow those full screen, make sure to play the game windowed (bFull Screen = 0 in the .ini)
Hi all,
First time post but I’ve had VorpX for a while now.
Anyway, I’m this close to having a perfect Skyrim VR setup but to keep the frames up constantly I need it running in Z-Normal or Adaptive. However, only Geometry works.
It’s hard to explain but the entire bottom and the entire right side (about a third of the screen) is unviewable, it’s just a mess of lines. I can see colour move as I move but what’s there is just a constant blur. What I can see of the screen looks and runs great, but the bottom and right don’t. I can switch back to Geometry. reset and it has the full screen back but then also the performance hit that comes with it…
I’ve set it up the normal way, DirectVR works, hooking isn’t an issue, it’s just an blur on the bottom of the screen…
Any advice on what could be causing this? Any other info, I can provide it.
Actually I am seen another fix. Or I’m going crazy…
SkyUI now fits perfectly in the view in VR mode in Oldrim (the classic Skyrim) and I played about 5 hours without switching to Peak Mode even once :-)
I’m gonna make it a top 10 😉
1. Alien Isolation
2. Dead Space 1-3

I’m having an issue where even if I create a shortcut from vorpx to run modded skyrim, it ends up giving up and turning off the headset before the game loads. These are long loading times ranging from 1-3min. After that the game loads without any performance issues and can be interacted with. I haven’t figured out how to reattach the headset view back to the game after it loads.
Is there anyway to increase the timeout vorpx will keep waiting for the game to load before it gives up? Vorpx loads the skyrim launcher and that loads the game. Without any mods on the HD version of the game it does stay in vr between the loader and the main game. The long loading time is after the loader. I can’t bypass the loader because I’m running mods to change animations to stop head bobs and animations to be vr safe.
I would be happy to increase the timeout or to have the ability to attach vorpx back to a game after it timed out on it. I’m asking here before I start removing the hi def mods to save on initial loading time.
Any ideas?
