    Howdy here.

As many of us, I was eagerly waiting to play Skyrim in VR for years now.
So i jumped with joy when i saw many users reported that the new Direct VR features enhanced the experience significantly and, ice on cake, motion controls at thumb’s tips on Vive’s controler ! Great !

Instantly went to install VorpX again, followed every steps as per instructions but bad luck came in:

    – positional tracking attempts always fail. The progress bar never goes over the first quarter on its way for each try.

    – And also the resolution of the game is still crap whatever Steam’s SuperSampling i set. (however the virtual cinema is cristal clear ! but when i switch back to “full VR” mode, game gets ugly again).

    – performance is very low for my rig : around 41 FPS on a GTX 1080Ti / i7 CPU / 32 Go RAM ?

    Damn that’s unplayable! Mayday!

@Michelangel0 – I’ve found that standard Skyrim runs quite smoothly on high settings, however the SE version is really choppy. What quality level do you run SE on? I’m not sure if my experience with SE is being hampered by some remnants of mods left over by a rushed ‘clean’ install of SE or whether SE just isn’t as smooth as standard skyrim when set to higher levels. (Both are buttery smooth in 2D) Running on a GTX980..

Sorry for the lazy question, I haven’t had much time to troubleshoot it myself..

I would just overclock the 4670k.
The upgrade gives you 5-10% in modern games, like battlefield 4 (if you have a powerful gpu) and nothing in older ones, like skyrim.

Will Skyrim SE work with vorpX, since both normal Skyrim and Fallout 4 are supported? Would I use the Fallout 4 settings, since they share the same engine?

Lawnmower Man…”That’s what has me wondering if one was better than the other for VorpX. Maybe you are right stephx and it is only the clock speed that would matter.”

When I got my Titan XP (original version) I spent a ton of time with the benchmark/monitoring programs watching GPU/CPU usage in both VR and flatscreen gaming. I was trying to determine what to move up to for CPU from my 4790k.

Fallout 4 uses all the cores/threads in descending order of utlization.
    Same for Skyrim SE

Skyrim classic uses the first 2 cores heavily and the next two marginally.

Eventually, core count will matter more than clock speed but right now, Lower core/High clock (an I7 4 core/8 thread) will still beat a multicore monster chip. It’s all in the game’s coding and they are just starting to code for efficient multicore use.

Right now, I think a 7700K is still the best bet. It will be at least 2 years IMO, now that Threadripper/I9 chips are a thing, before the software is able/coded to fully use all that resource. By that time, there will be newer/better CPUs on the market so I think that the 7700K is the best bet for an upgrade ‘today’ in a gaming focused machine.

    In Skyrim/Fallout 4

Is this the Classic Skyrim or SSE (the Special Edition)?

I stay locked at 45fps with no issues at all

Is this with Geometry or with another 3D mode set in VorpX?

I have decided to upgrade from my current i7-4790 @ 3.60 GHz to a CPU that is the best possible to run Oldrim with VorpX but I’m now completely lost.
I have been asking around and it seems i7 – 4790K @ 4GHz is considered “the best” CPU to run Oldrim flat. But I get the feeling when people say “the best” they also consider the price as a factor and are willing to ignore small performance improvements if the price difference is too big.

    Added:

    I went from a 4790k to a 7700k both overclocked to 4.8

How do you overclock to 4.8? From what I read people have problems reaching 4.5.

In Skyrim/Fallout 4 with a lot of mods and 1.4 supersampling/1920×1440, I probably gained 10FPS to my minimum framerate in the worst of areas. Enough to keep me at or very near 45fps most of the time. However, the overall increase in the smoothness of play was the really important thing. Being able to shuffle the textures in and out and thus process the draw call load faster makes all the difference when framerate drops under 45. It stays smoother/less stuttery for a longer time.

There are a few other factors to consider. Steam VR has had several updates that have made great strides in smoothing things out as well as has VorpX itself with the updates. But when looking solely at the 7700k and ram upgrade, it is a very noticeable impact on gameplay and certainly worth the cash.

When playing at the stock VorpX resolution/2x supersampling and that 100+ mod load (heavy graphics/texture/weather) I stay locked at 45fps with no issues at all… and that was impossible before with that degree of modding.

Hi fixed the problem. Deinstalled the enb files completely and reinstalled the enb2XX version. Further i edited the skyrim.in and added some papyrus funktions. his finally made vorpx hook and ils disapear. One thing though i wont be able to lauch enb gui (shift enter) anymore.
I played for two hours 300 mods installed and no ctd.
hope it last for a while before next crash.

    Bad news as of today!
ENB memory boost 64 wont let vorpx hook anymore.
If the enb injector is lauched Syrim wont load after you hit load or start game.
I did not change a thing though.
I can run skyrim without enb injector and the game starts in vorpx.
The problem is i need memory boost for my modded game. (ctd)
Today steam updated and nvidia experience, too. I deinstalled nvidia experience, but enb injector wont let skyrim start. I even tried the latest version enb305 but no success.
Damn!!!! I played for a week without ctd and as of a sudden game is screwed..
    and i am p issed.

So, what is the best CPU at the moment for Skyrim/FONV with VorpX.
I want to upgrade my i7-4790 but I’m completely lost. The only thing I understand is that I need a model that ends with K and then overclock it.

Hi guys it looks like I’m going to need some help on this one..

A week ago I was playing Skyrim + Enderal with a 3 sensor setup and my rift in Direct VR G3D. I’d play while standing and would turn/step without any trouble. But now when I tilt my head my view goes to the floor too rapidly, as well as when I move the camera follows with me like I’m a ghost. Before when I moved, all it would do it change the camera position, and not my actual position in game.

The new positional tracking feature is turned off. And Only Look Up/Down is turned ON.

PS: I had taken down my sensors and put them back up.

Any help is much appreciated, I would really like to get back into the game!

    @ralph
pls can u explain why the main monitor is just a black screen showing the vorpx logo on the bottom. This is when i play skyrim on vorpx.
    (setting windowed mode in launcher 1020X740) ingame setting 2xxx X 3xxx 4k skyrimprefs.ini

When i play fallout4 the main monitor shows the game with the vorpx logo on the bottom. (setting windowed mode in launcher 1020X740) ingame setting 2XXX 3XXX 4K falloutprefs.ini

Hi first i wrote :only enb gui is available effects dont work , if u enable effects G3D switches to z buffer. I have a watercooled system running on a i76900k and 1080ti.Frames never go below 30fps no matter what i do btw i capped framerate to 49 max that seems sufficiant for non shooter games.
FO4 on the otherhand works with G3d and enb (effects take effect in gameplay) i remember that enb kicked in when ambiant occlusion setting is enabled in enb settings.
    Skyrim seems a hog ..

I tested True ENB with Skyrim because somebody complained elsewhere that it doesn’t work and it worked. With the brightness of the game set to the lowest possible value it actually looked quite nice in the HMD. The problem is – 15 fps hit. Outdoors it dropped from about 30 to 15 fps. How do you optimize the ENB preset to not hit the game so hard, especially working with 3D Geometry?

Hi i cant run enb but i use the injector for the memory fix. So yes enb kind of works..I need to pause the watcher because if u dont the mesage waiting too long for the tesv.exe or even exe not found. As i said i need to delay the start of the tesv.exe in order to avoid that message, although sometimes vorpx kicks in but very rare . I used the watcher pause method on almost every game except FO4 and Skyrim SE. TW3, Syrim original dead space3 need the watcher pause thing because i dont want to restart the games four 4 or five times..
As said in my original post NMM works fine without the watcher put on puase.. MO is the problem its too fast loading tesv.exe….
