Thank you @Distant !
Star Trek: Legacy (G3D)
– Made by Bethesda
– Nice S3D, some ship lights are at HUD depth only
– Higher resolutions can be set by replacing values in Admiral.PRF
– Optimized for cinema modes
– Profile availiable from the cloud

I haven’t even purchased yet (still trying to find out if it works with Samsing Odyssey in Steam!) BUT I have read that the program looks at a game the first time you play it, then when you close, it then it creates/changes the profile and that is reflected the next time you play.
SO,. the fix would be to,.
1) Re install the VORPX update / software, from scratch (even removing Documents Profile folder etc (OR MAYBE JUST THE ENTRY IN THE INI, FOR YOUR GAME THAT IT MADE LAST NIGHT?: I haven’t seen anything to do w/ VORPX yet, so is all general advice…
2) run the game once again, like before, but this time, (maybe before even opening your game!): TURN OFF the ‘auto’ FOV and auto’ VOPRX’y stuff, or SAVE a Profile when the game works, and you can get back to that maybe?
I was devouring info, trying to decide to purchase,. Still am) The person had had good game display at first then went to crap next time they opened it! So, essentially the advice I read, was to turn off the auto Vorpx stuff (I forget the exact term ) and to set FOV Manually! :)
Can I ask YOU some questions?
1) SO you think VORPX is worth it?
2) Do you think the ‘$28.. ‘Promo code sites’ that sell VORPX out there are real and I could upgrade ??
3) I really only want to play a simple STar Trek (3D Direct-X I think) game made in Unreal 4 (and works in 3D Vision) does that sound like something that could be VR display?
4) finally, can you be IN VR AND in a Third Person game (like, just, an OFFSET would be fine! (Or can you MOVE the Offset with like the Thumbstick LOL CAMERAMAN!! ) That would be cool..
Copied the xcom profile and hooked to star trek online.exe, I believe. Logged in through arc/cryptic and then vorpx hooks into STO when in game.
In game vorpx settings then z-adapt or z-norm was available.
I totally agree about existing older games use with vorpx vr…the ones that work at least. Totally breathes new life into each of those games…and seeing them on a 3D level that simulates what we see for real makes it all the more worth experiencing.
Check out ‘Voice Attack’…it’s on steam and also available as a separate download for those who don’t want to use steam. It does everything you are asking and more. Also, check out the assortment of voice packs that are available through ‘www.hcsvoicepacks.com’ for various games and other things. I use ‘Astra’ voice pack with ‘Voice Attack’ when I play Elite Dangerous in VR. Doing that makes playing ED almost like Star Trek NG…having conversations with Astra during a jump or long space flight is quite fun. Things have to be set up properly to enjoy using conversation, but one it’s done, it’s quite flawless.
Cheers!!!
I guess I’m as close to a VR pioneer as it comes. I’ve been experiencing 3D and VR for about 20 years now. My first HMD, which I still have and use, is a Emagin Z800. I’ve had the DK’s 1 and 2 and now the Oculus CV1 with touch. I’ve used VorpX for about a year now. Still surprising how some older games are so great in VR and some are still better just playing in 3D on my DLP projector. In my opinion, great games that are also great in VorpX VR, are few and far between. The ones that are real gems make it all worth while because they have so much more content and replay ability. A few games that are like that for me are. F.E.A.R. and the old opengl game Star Trek Elite force. Was a delightful surprise to get Elite Force to work, I have all the community mods for that game, and have been playing it in VR for many years on my old system. Crazy how that game is so wonderful in VR, the 3D is perfect and fully supported. There are so many games from back then that are better VR experiences than a lot of the made for VR games today. Many of those games are earlier versions of Direct X and not supported by the VorpX driver. Would be great to get support for older direct X games. I would even purchase as an in app add on. Another great in app purchase would be voice recognition with programmable keystroke replacement ability. For my old set-up I use my Microsoft Game Voice. Would be great to have a modern equivalent to that.
Minecraft is a good example of a game that a modern studio wouldn’t touch but has had the longevity and engagement that surpasses your Fallouts and your GTAs.
Indeed. Minecraft is amazing in VR with the Vivecraft mod too.
I also disagree. I had some incredible VR gaming experiences in Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Ironwolf VR, Bullets and More, Pavlov, Onward, Vivecraft, Raw Data, Climbey, The Art of Fight, Quell 4D, Warpaint, Elite, and Battlezone.
On the other hand I’ve also been having a blast playing New Vegas for 95 hours and counting using VorpX. I love both VorpX and native VR games.
I think you can and should enjoy all the options 🙂
I am curious. Are you playing New Vegas in Cinema / Geometry mode or in full directVR mode?
I play New Vegas in full Direct VR mode with a wireless Xbox One controller standing. It feels very immersive even with a gamepad. Ralf also suggested to me to try it using the Vive controllers instead of the gamepad because it frees up your hands.
It really feels great to be able to turn with your body and look around with your head. With standing mode you basically take full advantage of the rotational and positional tracking.

The best games to start with are undoubtedly those with Direct VR support. After applying Direct VR these have perfect 1:1 head tracking and perfect FOV without the need for any further setup. In *some* cases Direct VR even provides basic roomscale, i.e. you can walk around a bit more freely than with the normal vorpX positional tracking.
In no particular order:
Bioshock 1 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock 2 (original version in DX9 mode)
Bioshock Infinite
Borderlands 2
Borderlands Pre-Sequel
Skyrim (original DX9 version is best for VorpX)
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Fallout 4
Dishonored
Half-Life 2 (incl. Ep. 1+2)
The Stanley Parable
Dear Esther (Source engine version)
Portal
Portal 2
Black Mesa
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Left 4 Dead 2
Mirror’s Edge
Aliens Colonial Marines
Duke Nukem Forever
Quake III
Star Trek Voyager Elite Force
Return to Castle Wolfenstein [2001]
My latest personal recommendation would be Half-Life 2 Episode 1, which I just recently played for two hours. Something I don’t do nearly as often as I’d like to these days. Call me heavily biased, I am for sure, but that was more fun than 99% of made for VR games. I actually ended up doing that after buying and trying a bunch of highly praised made for VR titles the same evening.
In case someone never played HL2 Episode 1: right at the start you enter an alien fortress, which not only still looks great after all these years, it’s also a perfect-for-VR mix of shooting sequences and (easy) physics puzzles. Most importantly: all that in a highly intense atmosphere that almost inescapably sucks you into the game. Creating such an intense atmosphere is the hard part of making good single player shooters and it really makes all the difference in VR. Hard to top if you ask me.
Similar things could be said about Bioshock, Black Mesa (Half-Life 1 remake), the Fallout games, Skyrim or – insider tip – Aliens: Colonial Marines, which may just be a mediocre shooter on the monitor, but is actually great with vorpX.
Important side note: whenever possible play standing with Touch controllers or Vive wands!
One last thing: not a Direct VR game, but also extremely intense (and visually great) is Resident Evil 7. I chickened out before the introduction mission was over. Good luck with that one.
Hello,
I purchased the Oculus yesterday and I need help getting it to run with non-VR games. It’s become extremely frustrating due to a mix of being a complete newbie at this.
The non-VR games I’d like to play with the Oculus Rift:
– Star Trek Online
– World of Warships
– Skyrim
They’re both F2P games and both play in 3rd person perspective. Now, I understand they are not VR games but I would at least want the headtracking to function as the camera view rotation and I would like the game HUD to be visible without having to literally move my head to the far right or far left to see stuff that is normally in the bottom left/right corner of the screen (if possible).
I tried using the Skyrim profile but the game was horrible in image quality (it looked extremely pixelated even up close..nothing like I see youtube videos of people playing it in VR) and no matter what settings I changed it just doesn’t improve. The interface/HUD is also unreadable and the head tracking does not work very well.. it just looks like I was sitting a few feet from an imax screen and that imax screen ‘followed’ my head movement when it came to the HUD elements. Aka any HUD item on the bottom left or right of the screen stays in the far botton left/right of my view in the VR system and moving my head does not rotate my viewpoint to put that bottom/left/right corner HUD element in ‘front’ of me. Only way to ‘see’ it is to move my eyeballs hard to those corners.
Using Vorpx I have succeeded in running World of Warships.. but the resolution/graphic quality is horrendous and the interface is extremely blurry.
Star Trek Online literally won’t work as the game doesn’t launch in the VR headset it stays on the monitor.
So I’d like some help with this.
Quick Question:
Do I need to change the resolution the game is set to in its options to a specific resolution? Aka does the Oculus require games to be in like1600x1024? 800×600? Do I need to have the DESKTOP resolution in my computer also set to that so that it works better?
Any help appreciated.
@ annabel82 : Doom 3 *might* work with the same method BBQme describes for the new Doom. No guarantee though.
1. Make a copy of another ID software engine game profile (e.g. Prey, Quake, Star Trek Elite Force) in the vorpX config app.
2. Assign the Doom 3 main .exe to this profile.
This is a general method that often can provide basic Stereo 3D support (sans game specific effect fixes) for unknown games based on the same graphics engine.
@ lamer3d : Adding full S3D for newer OpenGL titles would require a completely new S3D render path for vorpX, which by no means is a small task. Since only very few AAA games use OpenGL (basically just the ID Software engine) that’s not a high priority currently, sorry.
@ laza, congo : You can try to make a copy of an older ID Software game profile in the vorpX config app (e.g. Star Trek Elite Force or Jedi Knight 2) and add the Doom main .exe to this new profile. No guarantee that this will do anything, but it *might* give basic S3D support.
I’ve been playing The Dark Mod by using the profile for ‘Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force’ (DK2). After the 16.1.1 update though, the screen is just a series of horizontal lines. I can hear the game running, but the video scrambled.

This one is dedicated to the Star Trek fans out there!!! So with the release of VORPX 0.9 we now have the ability to play older Q3 engine games in VR. After reading about this, I knew there was one game I desperately wanted to try and it worked! Elite force is a great old shooter set in the Voyager storyline of the Star Trek Universe. This game may be old, but it translates into VR pretty well…. Sure it might look dated, but hey… It’s Star Trek in VR and I can now say I have been on a Borg Cube and lived to tell about it █-)
hi, I saw in the profiles that there was STAR TREK (ST.exe) but when I run the game, here rest on a black screen.
A solution?
