Thanks for everyones help. No, I had not run the game once by itself before trying it with VorpX. What is confusing is that I had no My Documents\My Games\… folder even though I’ve run at least two other Steam games on that PC. I did manually create that folder (and the Bioshock folder under it). Then I manually copied the template settings file from the games Steam folder to the newly created folder and finally the VorpX editor was able to find and edit the settings file. Next time I will try to run the game first before trying to configure it. Thanks again.

You could try to create a vorpX Desktop shortcut for the game, which can hook more reliable into some games than the automatic detection.

Right click the vorpX tray icon, choose “Create Desktop Shortcut”, then navigate to the games .EXE and double click it. For games that have a launcher program select the main .EXE not the launcher. This will create a shortcut on your desktop.

Doesn’t work with all games, but with BSI it should.

The BSI .exe is normally located in: [Your Steam Folder]\SteamApps\common\BioShock Infinite\Binaries\Win32

Yes, it’s the retail Steam version. I grew up awhile ago, if I steal a game i don’t complain about it ;)

Rift as extended display, Windows 8.1
I’ve gotten quite a few games working on the rift at this point, but nothing has solved DXHR+VorpX yet. I tried setting the Rift as my main display (which fixed Assassin’s Creed and a few other games on the list), no difference.
I should note that I can make the game run in normal mode, forced to the rift’s display, but of course the image is garbled and useless without VorpX.

The only similar behavior I have seen is in HL2VR. I can run it (and it runs wonderfully), but if I change the FOV scale in the game it immediately crashes to desktop, and if I attempt to run it again I just get a loading icon for a second and then nothing, just like DXHR. Deleting the config file for HL2VR fixes the problem. I know the engines aren’t related, but that’s the only faint clue I have so far.

From what little I can gather I suppose it may be a Windows 8.1 issue. I am using Windows 7 64-bit and don’t have a problem getting vorpx to work. It is as well behaved as my other games that work well with vorpx, I don’t have to do anything special for it.

I’m also using the steam version and this is one of the best looking games on vorpx! Hope you’ll get it working too… sometimes I have to unplug and plug the dk2 back… also try to restart vorpx, when you have problems…

Hi. I have one OT technical question. Ralf how do you move Steam games to another monitor? I want to run games in fullscreen on second monitor which is not main. I can’t find relevant information about it….

Did you run the game at least one time before using the optimizer? I would assume that this is necessary for the game to be able create the .ini files first. Using the Steam version too here (I don’t think there is another one), so that can’t be the issue.

If the auto optimization continues to fail for some reason, you can also adjust the FOV manually (googling for “Bioshock Infinite fov” should reveal a few tutorials). Unfortunately for BSI that’s a bit more complicated than for most games since the FOV has to be calculated as an offset, but that’s also explained in most tutorials.

OK, I just checked all three Bioshock games with Windows 8.1 with the current release version of vorpX 0.71 to make extra sure I don’t tell you anything wrong. All three work just fine.

I would really like to help you with your double stereo issue and I will try to replicate the problem, right now I can’t say what might cause this problem for you as it doesen’t happen here.

Just in case: For Bioshock 1+2 did you follow the advice given on the Game Optimizer Page of the vorpX config app? You have to add -dx9 to the launch options in Steam. If you don’t do this, you may a black screen. So maybe that’s the problem in these cases.

Bioshock Infinite works without having to do anything special. You should still take a look at the Game Optimizer entry to set the FOV.

Whenever a game has an entry in the Game Optimizer, you should apply the tweaks mentioned and follow any additional advive given there. Also please make sure that all games are set to 1920×1080 with a DK2 before starting them with vorpX. Any other resolution might cause problems.

If a game doesn’t work otherwise, you should also try to use the Rift as primary display and set vorpX to “Use system settings” display wise. This wasn’t necessary for any of the three games in my case though.

You could try to switch from the games from DX9 to DX11 or vice versa. DX9 is the preferred mode, since it has Geometry 3D, but if one of them does not work, the other may be worth a try.

This has to done with an .ini tweak unfortunately. Here you find a short tutorial for Dirt 3: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1907032

dirt2.exe and dirt3.exe should remain on the exclude list. These are the launcher programs, not the actual games. vorpX should not hook them.

You can do a full factory reset in the config app (trouble shooting page) to bring them back if you can’t add them back manually.

    Hi Ralf (and others).
I have been trying to get vorpx to work with my dk2 but no luck. It has installed correctly and the dk2 is detected fine on my computer. I have set it up exactly as you have described including the 8.1 sticky. I have also been through the troubleshooting. Reinstalled many times. Games act as if vorpx does not exist at all. It does not hook up to them at all.

Below is a image of my processes running. Note, I have tried with steam origin and firewall turned off. I have tried with multiple games but just no luck. Fraps is only open now to take screenshots of task manager.

Your help would be much appreciated!

    Hi,

Trying Metro 2033 on my DK2, this loads fine and the head tracking seems spot on through Vorpx but the FOV is way to close in, I have looked up about changing the FOV in the Config file which I have done in appdata/local/4AGames and also under the steam/userdata location but neither change the FOV in game.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ian.

I have own all mentioned games in Steam. So there is no problem with that. Also I used F keys only in games which VorpX configuration said they are supported. So I made a test. I tried to bind keys for Mirrors Edge according to this proceed: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=138177233. But my num case doesn’t change the FOV. Minimal I wasn’t see the difference in in-game menu. So maybe I have a problem which is not connected with VorpX.

Hello, I thought to start a seperate thread as other might have similar issues.

I am really curious to get these titles to work, hence I explain my Problems in Details and hope we can get them to work with the great Support from Ralph.

Unfortunately I am still not able to run the Vorpx config as I only see a transparent window Frame but cant see any Option to choose.
I am running Win 7 with the latest .Net 4.5.2 which was fresh reinstalled.

All other DK2 Demos and games like LFS, ETS2 are working fine.
SDK 0.4.1 installed and Rift has latest 2.11 Firmware.

Just to be in synch on terminology:
    1. Headtracking = looking left, right, up and down in car
    2. Positional tracking = leaning backwards and Forward in car

I can open the Vorpx help file and here is my current work flow to get the F1 games to work. Perhaps I am making something wrong and you can advise.

    1. Starting VorpX. I can see it running as in the right bottom Corner , I can see the VorpX Icon. I can open the help and can stop and Launch the Service. No error Messages as well.
    2. Due to my “transparent” config window issue, I assume Vorpx running in defaul config
    3. I set my DK2 Monitor to Portrait mode in the Win Settings
    4. I set my DK2 Monitor to Primary, with the effect that I can see the main win Screen on my DK2. But Screen is disjointed. I assume that is normal.
    5. by closing on eye I can see a part of the Screen and the Icons to choose the F1 games. Both games running from Steam
    6. Launching the game works, but again very disjointed. By closing one eye and knowing which Option to choose ;-) I start a race
    7. I sit in the car and Looks like correct FOV as I am in the car BUT disjointed. Closing one eye gives me a part of the Screen, but opening both eyes, no Chance to see anything to work with
    8. Headtracking not working
    Positional tracking not working

Hope this explains the “starting” Position to get the programs to work and help others to get them working.

Thanks for your help already and looking Forward to get it to work
    Regards
    Sven

Updates are installed automatically, similar to Steam updates. When you start vorpX Control, vorpX checks for available updates.

The first DK2 ready version of vorpX will probably require Extended Mode. Direct to Rift works for a few games already, but in general it’s a lot more difficult to implement in a driver like vorpX compared to native apps since the Oculus driver hooks games similar to vorpX, which creates a conflict between both programs.

You can force many games to the Rift through the vorpX config app though, which makes working in Extended Mode a lot easier.

    Hi,
i´ve have some nasty Problems after my Os Reinstall with Vorp-X.

First of all, i didn´t have any of these Problems bevore i had to reinstall my OS. I´m using Win8.1 64bit which is full updated to the latest Date. Graphic and Hardware Drivers are also on the newest Version.

I´m having 2 Users on my System, one as a Admin and my Gaming Persona ;)
My Admin is Password protected , my Gaming-self not.

I installed Vorp-x with my Admin, which worked with no Problems, Vorp-x Started and play all Steam/Origin Games. So fine so good.

When i switch to my Gaming-self, or reboot to my Gaming-self which is my Standard ID, Vorp-x doesn´t show up. Ok,so i get the Programm from my installed Dir, make a Link and try to start it from Desktop. This makes a error (critical error…bla, bla cannot do its magic). When i start now my link with Admin Rights. Vorp-x starts….buuuuuuut doesn´t work with any Game. Hmm, so i quit Steam, started it with Admin Rights and… it worked.

so i guess, that a lot of the cannot-start-Game-X-with-Vorp-x encountered the Same Problem as me now. Vorp-x doesn´t work with multiple Accounts on one PC. Because when i install a Programm on a fresh PC, the System asks me for the Admin password, and after the install Vorp-x is unusable. Maybe there are some Registry settings missing or the installer only install for Admins only.

This is something that should really fixed, i installed my Gamer User because my Adminuser on my last System got corrupted and make my system unuseable.
