NipOcParticipantI had set the fov to 120 (applied profile, pressed f11 in-game and the fov got bigger).
The scene in the video is the one where I noticed it the most, it became much less obvious in the following areas.
I have this ,,distortion” in Bioshock, Borderlands 2 and some source games, but not in Skyrim or Mass Effect.
I´ll mock a bit with the fov again and try the 2D fov enhancement and if this doesn´t help I´ll just ignore it.Apr 9, 2015 at 7:30am #80880In reply to: Weird Distortion
KarlorParticipantI would say its the FOV needs to be increased for sure. That will help. I have noticed, with BioShock 1 especially, that it has a more fish-eye/bubble distortion then other games. I think its the DX9 it uses or something. What I did to limit this is increase FOV of the game then I used vorpX options to “stretch” it around (2d FOV I think, and others) until it looked better. BioShock 1 is one of the more noticeable distorted games. Its the age I think. Jericho looked for me to have the same style of distortion, it can be managed though. Also for Biohock 1 the FOV increases but the scale of your hands and guns never changes. In most games when you increase FOV it zooms out and you can see more of the character model. The way Bioshock works it doesn’t effect the scale of your character so it can seem a little funky. Also the hacking is an insane pain in the Rift, I use a mod to just get rid of it.
If you want to be really blown away play BioShock Infinite on the Rift. I played it and all the DLC, twice lol

RalfKeymasterAre you sure that the FOV is set to 120?
Also do you have the same kind of effect in the Virtual Cinema lounge? If not, it’s the game FOV setting causing this.
Does look like games with a narrow FOV look without either an FOV fix applied or the image scaled down, respectively a letterbox AR mode used. You have to apply the 120° in the Game Settings Optimizer AND follow any additional instructions given there.
If the optimizer fails for some reason, here are manual instructions. Shouldn’t be necessary to do this yourself though.

RalfKeymaster– HUD Scaling options are on the display page of the vorpX ingame menu, if available. Guaranteed for Bioshock 2 and many, many, many other games, not 100% sure for Infinite currently. At least after being told so above you might have looked for that.
– If the FOV is set correctly there is no fisheye effect. The general issue (which was a feature – but not a good idea – to address aspect ratio in the very first vorpX version) is so long gone, that I did almost forget about it until today.
– There is a latency enhancement option on the head tracking page of the ingame menu in vorpX that applies an additional rotation component at the latest possible time (when the stereo 3D is created) in Geometry 3D games. In some cases that works worse, in others better than “VR-Boost”, which sometimes works quite well and sometimes is just snake oil.
– There is not a single game in any driver that allows you to look in another direction than you walk. No matter what anyone writes. Do you have a working example of that?
– Your posts aren’t “a bit harsh”, in large parts they are simply not true or leave out things.
I leave you to your opinion. There is however not a single point you mention that vorpX does not address one way or the other. And the amount of things that you got wrong makes it pretty hard to believe that this is pure oversight, sorry. I grant you the benefit of the doubt this time. Probably a mistake.

NipOcParticipantHi again,
to you first point, they call the feature VRboost and the feature is described like this:…to reduce latency to bare minimum, to make it possible to separate head tracking from mouse control, to allow game controllers to properly function…
and since I tried a few games it seems to work
to the second, I tried borderlands 2 and bioshock infinite again and the Hud is still in the lower left and upper right corner, where I can´t see it without “edge peek,” but I don`t know if this is the case in other games
(this is how borderlands 2 looks in the other driver with Hud moved into vision)
<img src=”http://www.theriftarcade.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Vireio-Perception-Borderlands.jpg” alt=”” />to the third, not the default value is the problem for me, but the lack of a calibration tool
(like this one)
<img src=”http://www.mtbs3d.com/wiki/images/thumb/d/dd/Normal_defaultsettingsSHOCT.jpg/700px-Normal_defaultsettingsSHOCT.jpg” alt=”” />to the fourth, your right, I didn´t thought about the Game Optimizer
to the fifth, I didn´t change any settings and you even mentioned the fisheye effect yourself, you said that smart AR introduces vertical distortion, but others said too that it´s also a problem in other modes.
<a href=”https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/fisheyeimage-warping/”></a>
This problem becomes less obvious with a higher fov (but is still noticeable) and might be only bothering me (it´s not that game breaking as it might sound in my first post). I`ll try changing some options again and see if this will help.to the last, with “more time,” I meant creating the VRboost profile since they need cheat engine for them (tried to make my own profile and it took an enormous amount of time, more than the shader profile), but I never created Vorpx profiles, so I don`t know how much work it is, so I´ll just believe you.
I don
t think VorpX is a bad driver and I appreciate how much work you put into this and I also appreciate the features that you add with every release. I have much fun with the cinema mode, which works really well and is perfect for third person games and if you calibrate the driver right (head tracking, 3D depth ...), the normal mode can also be an enjoyable experience (if you pause now and then and dont move your head quick, to prevent motion sickness).My first post (maybe even this one) may seem a bit harsh because I mostly mentioned problems, but I didn´t want them to seem insignificant and I also didn´t write my opinion or conclusion.
And my conclusion is that VorpX is still a beta driver and all problems can be fixed and even in this state the experience can be enjoyable. Compared to the other driver, VorpX isn´t the losing one (even if it may sound like this), the other driver got rid of many of the problems I mentioned here, but VorpX has more features, a bigger forum, is definitely more user-friendly, has (in my opinion) a better “basis” and therefore more potential (Both have there pros and cons).
And to answer the question, yes it has added enough (many) features, like position tracking, (I think) the game optimizer, fov enhancement, updated profiles… to be an enjoyable experience (as mentioned above).

jbond95ParticipantI have gotten Portal 2 and FarCry 4 (sort of) but I cannot get skyrim, bioshock, or fallout nv working. I know that its not hooked in because I cannot get the in game menu to show up. it looks like the desktop does thru the rift. (zoomed in and offset to the sides a little) and head tracking wont work either.
Apparently there is some way to disable optimus with fn+f5 on Alienwares but that combination is muted and it is brightness control instead on my laptop >__< I don’t know how to disable optimus any other way either

DukealiciousParticipantStereo3d gaming has never been easy. It has it’s own challenges. You should read all the official setup posts. With all games in Vorpx start by setting the FOV to 120 or the highest you can provided it is above 90 at least. Do this by ingame sliders, ini edits, console commands, the built in Vorpx game optimizer, Vorpx menu FOV adjustments, or programs like Flawless Widescreen or Widescreen Fixer. Since you are a developer you should be able to pick this stuff up very quick. In the Vorpx menu ingame try setting it to “Letterbox 2” I find that this combined with an FOV of 120 seems to eliminate any view distortion when looking around.
Next you will need to tweak your mouse sensitivity til it matches your headtracking. There are a number of ways to do this whether through the vorpx menu, the game menu, inis, xpadder mouse emulation, or a combination of all the techniques til it fits.
Then you need to set your graphics so you can maintain 75 fps at all times whether in combat or complex outdoor scenes. Use Z3D if you cannot maintain the framerates at the graphic detail you desire in Geo3d.
If it sounds like a lot of work sometimes it can be, but once you have it all setup correctly games in Vorpx are the best experiances you can have in the Rift. Bioshock Infinite or Borderlands 2 in Vorpx blow any demo out on Oculus Share out of the water.
For Skyrim and a gamepad it is better to just disable the 360 pad in Skyrim game menu and in the Vorpx ingame menu. Then use xpadder to map keyboard and mouse imputs to your 360 pad.
Lots of people charge for beta access. That is Steam greenlight and any other early access game like Elite Dangerous. Id rather get a chance to use Vorpx now with updates here and there rather than wait for CV1 release a year from now.

NeodementiaParticipantI just finished Bioshock Infinite with dk2 and vorpx which was one of the greatest game experiences of my life. This was the steam version, running windows 7 on an evga nvidea 640 with 8 gb ddr2, with graphics set to very high. I used the following setup:
In game settings:
Start Bioshock Infinite without vorpx first.
Go to options, graphics, set field of view to max.
Ensure game is fullscreen, and 1920X1080.
Start New Game, enter the light house, exit game.
(Ensuring ini creation, and a good point to trigger autosave to jump in and out of game while adjusting)
Startup Vorpx.
Right click tray icon, Configure Vorpx, General Settings,
Under Disaply/Monitors set to Show on Rift DK2 and disable Aero on game start.
(I have had alot of luck with this working correctly since the patch)
Apply and close.
Restart Bioshock Infinite with vorpx on.
You should be able to see well enough to continue your game.
(Use middle mouse click edge peak if needed to enter game)
Ingame vorpx settings:
Once ingame push Delete on your keyboard to bring up vorpx menu.
Click Mouse wheel to zoom back in to see menu clearly.
On Main tab:
Set 3d Reconstruction Z Normal
Seperation (3d-strength) 2.00
Depth Weighting (Near-Far) 1.00
(These are the most immersive 3d setting I found, that do not distort quality or cause my stomach to turn)
On Display Tab:
Fix Chromatic Aberration On
Image Zoom 0.67
(This will pull the camera back far enough to capture most of the screen without taking you out of the screen)
On Input Tab:
HT Sensitivity .38
HT Roll On
HT Smoothing Very Low
(This will seem a bit slow, once you reach the target practice area i suggest you practice till perfect learning to aim and shoot using head tracking before you proceed, and tweak these settings to what suits you. Alot of people dislike this method of shooting and want the crosshair disconnected, but having tried steamvr halflife 2 I can tell you hands down, I love aiming with headtracking. You will also want to tweak your right joystick sensitivity ingame control options to your liking, I also found that a lower sensitivity worked for me.)
Handle Gamepads Internally Off
Head Tracking as Gamepad Off
(This will allow you to play with an xbox controller using in game setup, which does not coflict with head tracking for me)
OK&Save (exit vorpx panel)
Exit Game one more time.
INI Settings:
Open the following folder:
C:\Users\(your username)\Documents\My Games\BioShock Infinite\XGame\Config
Open XUserOptions.ini with notepad.
Change:
MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=00.000000
To:
MaxUserFOVOffsetPercent=28.570000
(This will boost your fov back far enough to make the depth feel correct)
Save and Close
Open XGame.ini with notepad.
Change:
[XCore.XScreenManager]
bUseDefaultSafeRect=true
SafeRectX0=0
SafeRectY0=0
SafeRectX1=1920
SafeRectY1=1080
MaxDefaultSafeRectAspectRatio=1
To:
[XCore.XScreenManager]
bUseDefaultSafeRect=false
SafeRectX0=0
SafeRectY0=0
SafeRectX1=900
SafeRectY1=700
MaxDefaultSafeRectAspectRatio=0
Save and Close
(This last edit alters the positioning of your hud elements. These settings will pull your healthbar, vigorbar etc inside your field of view. This will allow you to enjoy the game without ever having to use edge peak)
Restart Bishock infinite and enjoy.Dec 31, 2014 at 8:34pm #26944In reply to: Portal 2 settings for DK2?
InfiniteHydroParticipantThanks Ralph,
It turns out Portal 2 has a command line style menu that I found by randomly pressing keyboard buttons after finding a youtube DK1 vid – turns out it was “o”.
After some messing with several settings I got it pretty well sorted out.
Appreciate the personal support you throw in.VorpX really makes the DK2 worthwhile. Fallout 3 and Bioshock Infinite are absolutely amazing in the Rift.
Great job!Dec 18, 2014 at 2:26pm #26507In reply to: Another Display Orientation and Question
OculusRiftRocksParticipantFor bioshock infinite I could get high framerate on ultra settings, with AA, 2D only.
with geometry 3D, framerate took a masive nosedive, even on ‘low’ settings with no AA the framerate was bad, to me it seems way lower than half the frame rate, but I cannot tell until I have the next update of vorpx which may have an FPS counter.
I am using GTX 750ti
Dec 18, 2014 at 1:38am #26502In reply to: Another Display Orientation and Question
RalfKeymasterI also don’t think this can be caused by the display oriention.
19-20fps in Bioshock Infinite G3D is definitely not normal though. Usually the performance drop for Geometry 3D is about 50%-60%, since everything has to be rendered twice, plus some overhead depending on the game. With a fast graphics card 50-60fps in Bioshock Infinite should be possible with Geometry 3D.
General rule of thumb: If you can’t get a good framerate (ideally 75fps for DK2), use Z-Buffer 3D, which only has a ~10% framerate reduction compared to playing without vorpX. Especially for longer gaming sessions a smooth framerate is more important than perfect S3D.
Dec 18, 2014 at 1:26am #26501In reply to: Another Display Orientation and Question
LaserParticipantI also have horrible performance in Games, like Bioshock Infinite, without Vorpx I get 100-150 Fps, with Vorpx only 19 – 21, regardless which setting I use, could the wrong display orientation be the reason for that?
I don’t think display orientation has any effect on performance, and I too have terrible fps drop in geometry mode, Z-normal etc works alot better for me but the depth isn’t that good in those.
Oct 27, 2014 at 8:52pm #21476In reply to: Unsupported games with stereo 3D
moarveerParticipantoh right so you can force vorpx to inject then? do you just change the exe name in windows, I would like to try deus ex 1 and gears of war 1, both those games never injected, but am I right in saying if I change the gears of war exe to armaII exe vorpx will inject?
Yeah any game that you rename to arma2.exe will hook vorpx to believe it’s the real game. Also try UDK.exe, both will hook and work even in geometry 3d, and pls keep us updated of the results.
I was hoping we could build a sort of unofficial centralized list of games not officially supported but still allow for stereo 3d whether that be z3d or geometry3d. I am not talking about games that run but only in 2d. lets be some good beta testers and post our results.
So I will start with one.
Singularity:
It is Bioshock like FPS game. It runs in geometry3d and z3d. The default FOV is way too low and the ini files are not configurable however you can fix the FOV with a 3rd party program called Flawless Widescreen. The default headtracking too sensitive. Turning it down all the way in the game’s menu helps but that makes a gamepad impossible to use. If you want to use a gamepad just turn down the headtracking sensitivity in the Vorpx menu till it feals right with your in game sensitivity options. Takes some trial and error but you can get it perfect. Game runs smooth as butter and with no judder in z3d max settings with a gtx 970. Some judder in geo3d but im sure that can be worked out I just haven’t tried as it looks and feels fantastic already.I tried Singularity on Steam and Vorpx hooked it but didn’t recognize the game so no 3d at all, did you do something to make it work?
Oct 13, 2014 at 2:10pm #19208In reply to: Bioshock 1
BogmannParticipantDid you setup your DK2? Looks like you haven’t set it to portrait-mode in your display settings, also make sure Bioshock runs in 1920×1080!
Sep 25, 2014 at 7:21pm #18052In reply to: Any particular game worth trying?
Trancer SpaceyParticipantBioshock 2 works and looks very good, because you can use gamepad and mouse together, you don’t need an emulation for this. In G3D-Mode it looks really impressive! No shader issues, dive in! :-)
