In reply to: Any particular game worth trying?
moarveerParticipantFor me the best currently are Bioshock 1 and 2, and Dear Esther. This work almost as good as any native VR app in terms of pressence. I’ve had some success with others like Metro 2033, System Shock 2, Stanley Parable, Aliens Colonial Marines, but they cannot beat those mentioned.

jcmikeParticipantI’ve been having very similar problems… probably put 10+ hours trying every possible vorpx, dk2 and game setting combination on Skyrim & Bioshock Infinite, and the image is always messed up on the rift. Skyrim did load for me one time, but I have been unable to replicate it (super weird). It seems like something just isn’t right (I don’t think it’s a hardware issue, because I can get other demos working fine).
I read one post by someone who was having lots of similar issues who reformatted his PC and that seemed to do the trick… so just been waiting for enough time to take that on. I’ve made a few driver tweaks to my system over the years for 3d vision… so wondering if it’s something like that.
I’ll definitely reply to this thread when I get to if with results, and keep us posted if you find a solution.

Trancer SpaceyParticipantFINALLY! I found the problem: I resetted my nvidia settings for Bioshock back to default. Now it’s working! And like Bioshck 2 part 1 looks F*CK*NG FREAKY AWESOME in gemetry-mode!

Trancer SpaceyParticipantI found out what causes the black areas or grafik dropouts (don’t know how to describe it). It’s always when I don’t set the Rift as primary monitor. I noticed the same thing within Skyrim. Then the picture has not the high contrast and these black areas. Guess it’s running in 60hz. Are this black areas the so called “black smear”? (Sorry, I’m totally new to vorpX and Oculus.)
@Ralf: By the way, I don’t get Bioshock 1 running in dx9-Mode. I have a normal box version, not the Steam version, but I patched it to 1.1. I disabled ingame the setting Dx10 textures and created a shortcut where I added the -dx9 in the target path (like you add commands in unity demos). But then the game crashes after the 2k video in the intro. Or better said: it freezes totally. I don’t get it to work in dx9/geometry-mode. Anything I can do?

Trancer SpaceyParticipantP.S.: Bioshock 2 has not these strange, ugly black “wholes” in dark areas.

Trancer SpaceyParticipantSorry, my fault: Bioshock 2 is WORKING! Forgot to set the ingame resolution to Rift. Now it’s working in Geometry-Mode and it looks F*CK*NG AWESOME!!!
What’s really nice: Mouse and Xbox-controller are working simultaneously togehter! This makes the gaming experience with smooth analog control and xbox-mappped menue-buttons very, very nice! Unfortunately this does not work in Bioshock 1. :-(
Or does anyone know a workaround for this? To use mouse and xbox gamepad simultaneously togehter in BS1? It’s ok that you can use pinnacle-gameprofiler instead or vorpX own Gamepad emulation, but the lack of analog control and the loose of button/menue-mapping in games like Bioshock1, Fallout or Skyrim really sucks.

Trancer SpaceyParticipantP.S.: Bioshock 2 does not start in VorpX.

bdiepeveenParticipantI’m having similair issue’s but only with a few games,
These games work for me :
Fallout New Vegas
FarCry 3 & Blood Dragon
Mirrors Edge(but not steam version)
Garry’s Mod
DayZ
Stalker Call of Pripyat(but shows a blackscreen can hear sounds tough)
Battlefield 3
Crysis 3
F.E.A.R – wich launches with vorpx but runs on my normal screen not the rift even tough the rift is primary display.Games that do not seem to trigger vorpx:
Bioshock Infinite – the game launches but is not running via vorpx
F.E.A.R 2 – Crashes at startup but briefly triggers vorpx.Sep 14, 2014 at 3:15am #17728In reply to: Settings For The Following Games
RalfKeymasterIn Bioshock Infinite please make sure to set the FOV slider in the game to the max value additionally to applying the Game Optimizer settings. This is important. Like in BS:I The Game Settings Optimizer sometimes contains notes about additional manual steps that may be involved. Whenever this is the case, it is important to follows these hints. Succesfully setting a game’s FOV to ~120° solves “zoomed in” issues reliably.
For games that don’t have an optimizer entry yet, you can often find FOV tutorials by googling for FOV + [game name]. Other possible strategies are covered in the vorpX documentation.
Head tracking sensitivity has to be adjusted once per game in the vorpX ingame menu (input page) since the value depends on your mouse sensitivity.
This and other useful hints are covered in greater detail in the quick reference and the “How to get the most out of vorpX” guide in the documentation. If you haven’t done so already, you should take a look at both, they answer many questions.

moarveerParticipantI haven’t tried Bioshock 2 with DK2 but it worked great with DK1 so I suppose it runs really well. It also has a profile for it in Vorpx config.
I didn’t have any problems getting Vorpx config menu ingame, so that’s new to me sorry.
Afaik fame profiles are specific configurations for those games that config them automatically, so you don’t have to tweak them in the Vorpx menu, those games that aren’t there will have to be tweaked manually, at least that’s how I understand it.
I don’t have any issues with vertical distortion, is VSYNC on in the config?

jeffamundoParticipantThank you both for the explanations. Does VorpX work just as well in Bioshock 2? If so, that’s excellent, because I stopped playing that game just to wait to play it using VorpX on the DK2. I’d like to get Stanley Parable to work first as a test, because it’s very straight forward atmosphere and gameplay makes it easy to detect distortion. I might move on if I can’t figure this out thought.
It is worth noting that I just set the FOV to the second highest value, confirmed the resolution was set to 1080p, and reset the VorpX settings in game. I’ll also note that repeatedly, when I hit delete to bring up and remove the in game menu, it will often not come back up unless I restart the game. Is that just Stanley Parable or is it a common bug? I also checked the game configuration settings in the VorpX configuration page, and I saw a list of games, but Stanley Parable was not one of them. What does that mean? Given that the settings should be default anyway, I’m hoping that would not cause a problem. As I mentioned, the aspect ratio is 1:1, confirmed. The other settings simply make it WORSE, but in a similar manner of distortion. The thing is that even when I find the best FOV setting in the Stanley Parable FOV options, I still find that the vertical distortion when I look up and down is distinctly very very wrong. At this point, I’ll move on to another game, but Stanley Parable is a perfect game for VR experience, so it would be good if we could figure this one out eventually.

RalfKeymasterThe black smear is a hardware issue of the OLED display the DK2 uses. The vorpX black smear fix should fix it for the most part, haven’t tested it in Bioshock yet though. Will check that.
Make sure to press F11 in the game after the tweak is applied to switch to the newly configured FOV. If appling the FOV fix automatically fails for some reason, you can also do it manually. Googling for “FOV Bioshock” will result in a few tutorials.
You can also use vorpX’s 3D FOV Enhancement function.
BTW: If you haven’t done so already, I would *highly* recommend to take a look at the “How to get the most out of vorpX” guide in the documentation. Among other things it explains the various strategies to deal with FOV issues in vorpX.

moarveerParticipantWish I knew that there was a Bioshock 1 entry before, it really took me a lot of time to get it working, but right now it’s damn perfect. The key for me was tweaking the ini to increase the FOV to 120, I can imagine that the profile will do that automatically.
Sep 8, 2014 at 3:37am #17459In reply to: A few issues and comments
RalfKeymasterUsually the performance hit of Geometry 3D in vorpX should be in the range 50-60%, which is true for any 3D driver BTW. For smooth gameplay at 60/75fps in Geometry 3D your PC has to be able to run a game with 120/150fps in 2D.
For games like Bioshock 1 or Jericho, probably even Dishonored, this should be possible with a gfx card in the range of GTX770/780.
If your card has something like that, you should enable Adaptive VSync to avoid falling back straight to 30fps if 60fps are not possible. Also consider reducing Antialising settings, 60fps are more important.
And of course there is always Z-Buffer 3D in vorpX, which works almost as fast as 2D rendering. In VR high framerates can be more important than the better Stereo 3D effect with Geometry 3D.

claytontParticipantIv been having the same issues as you when trying to get the gamepad to work properly. The way vorpx handles gamepad imputs doesnt alow for deep customization which is fine since there are programs like xpadder that fill that need. However the problem still persists because the internal gamepad seems to have inputs for buttons that simply cant be remapped and it seems to be causing problems with xpadder. When I start a game the gamepad works flawlessly but as soon as I hit the left thumbstick it brings up a weird vorpx menu with numbers that dont seem to serve any function and after I close that all my buttons are messed up. I cant run anymore, sheathing weapons makes me run forward indefinitely and the start and select buttons do other random things.
As a side note, these issues seem to only affect skyrim and farcry 3 as apposed to bioshock infinite, borderlands 2 and COD MW3 which work flawlessly.
