Managed to get this working pretty well on the DK2, using geometry 3d mode. Had to use letterbox mode to achieve a better in car FOV but worked just fine. Using Open track for head tracking / positional tracking. If anyone needs help setting this one up let me know. Ran in to some difficulties with setting the resolution to 1920×1080 but turns out this was a problem with GRID not reading my graphics cards information correctly, tweaked an .ini file and worked like a charm. Really impressed with how well this one works with vorpX – great job Ralf.
Thanks,
Marcus.
The grid texture displayed in the calibration is a bug. It was used in development for other purposes, but wasn’t swapped back before release.
The correct calibration screen, which does include instructions, will be back shortly.
Hi!
I’m just wondering how you use the IPD calibration tool in the Vorpx in-game menu? When you select it a white grid shows across the whole scene but what are you supposed to do with it?
I noticed that changing the IPD while the grid is displayed somehow changes how your eyes focuses on the grid. But what should you be looking for in order to know when the IPD value is set correctly for you?
Best
I’ve used Opentrack for simplicity. And it works well!
Also ran FOV changer and found that 70 to 80 vertical FOV seems to feel best for me anyway.
I’m downloading Grid 1. Grid 2 and Autosport seem to lack any kind of head cam camera movement in the cockpit. (Very lazy of Codemasters – I will cease funding their crap until they realize VR is the future) :)
I have done zero DirectX 9 or optimizations so I’m not sure what this geometry 3d vs whatever I have now is going to give me.
Can somebody elaborate on how the optimization is done? (Should I just be forcing DX9=true in the xml file? Or is there something more)
This is seriously awesome – just did a test with Dirt 3 and GRID on my DK2. Dirt 3’s headtracking is a little bit jerky, and the rearview mirrors are not aligned in GRID, but those are minor issues as far as I’m concerned.
Just a shame GRID is not a particularly great game…
Otherwise, both superb VR experiences!
Pretty much regardless of what I tried BF4 doesn’t work. Tried literally everything suggested here and not a thing will get BF4 to work.
R9 290x
Z87 Pro
4770K
8GB 2400 RAM
Windows 8.1 Pro
VorpX 0.7.1
Catalyst 14.7 Beta RC3
Rift DK2:
SDK 0.4.2 (runtime 0.4.2)
Firmware 2.12
I’ve tried:
– VorpX shortcuts
– Direct Mode
– Extended main monitor with “use system settings” and “Only Rift DK2”
– Extended not as main monitor with both of the above
– D3D mode for sure
– Disabled Origin In Game
– Shut any suspicious background programs that could be causing issues I could think of (with overlays)
– Tried 32/64 bit
– 64 bit wouldn’t work via VorpX shortcuts and launched via origin gives exact same result as 32 bit
– Turned on Offline mode in Origin
Really beginning to think this isn’t my fault that it isn’t working.
So strange since at least 3-4 other games work fine, one or two of which are DX11. I mean GRID 2 worked… It worked horribly because of what it is but it worked and BF4 doesn’t, even when it’s on the “supported” list.
FSX, GRID Autosport, Arma 3, Planetside 2, Insurgency, TF2
Will they get full Vorpx support?
@both of you: If you’d be willing to invest a little bit of time, I’d like to run some tests with you either next week or the week after that. Please send me a mail (address above) in case you are interested. Since you are both using an ultra large vignette scale I have a suspicion what *might* be going on, but that needs to be verified by using some test (grid) images that allow you to easily describe the distortion you see.
Hi rodleach,
Unfortunately I can’t give you any specific advice. GRID should run perfectly fine normally, it’s not at all known as a game that can cause trouble.
The -dx9 switch is not neccessary btw., GRID is DX9 only.
All I have for you is the general trouble shooting sticky on the top of this forum. Maybe it contains something useful for your issue. Your problem sounds very odd though, so it might also be something machine specific.
Hi,
I’m after some much needed help. Before I start I feel I should warn you..
I’ve only used macs for the past few years, so I’ve turned into a PC n00b.
I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but really need some help. One of the big draws of the rift and VorpX was playing racing games and Grid is high on my list of must plays however, despite it being listed as supported it just crashes out every time.
The video and sound stutter then the .exe stops responding.
I’ve put -dx9 in the launch option for Steam and disabled SLI but yeah.. I’m lost now!
PC spec is intel i5 4670k, 8gb ram and gtx 760 sli.
Thanks in advance for any help.
oh yes this helps:) thank you
Another (probably slightly better) option is:
You need to download EGO Cam Editor, it will allow you to modify the FOV for the cockpits of all cars for Grid, Dirt 2, Dirt 3.
Google for a download, or get it from here: http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/resources/ego-cam-editor.329/

Hi Disaster,
In Geometry 3D mode you can enhance the FOV with the “3D FOV Enhancement”, which I would recommend anyway to bring the FOV closer to the 90° that are ideal for the Rift.
Hope that helps,
Ralf
Can anybody help me to fix the cockpit view in Grid 1 ?
It is to close at the wheel… I´m not PC/English speciallist ;)
best oculus regards Disaster
