    @ skubi007 :

I just took a look at that facebook group you linked. What’s said there is flatout untrue. vorpX offers multiple ways to deal with FOV.

Not all are perfect, but you can always deal with the issue one way or the other. There is a whole help section (“Essential Hints Guide”) that explains the various options you have in that regard. You can also find that here: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-vorpx/

    In short:

    – For more than 150 games vorpX can adjust the FOV automatically to your headset, either by auto editing ini files or by directly manipulating the game memory. In other words: whenever possible vorpX handles the matter in a perfect manner.

    – If that is not possible or a game is unsupported and there is no way to adjust its FOV manually, a workaround is available with vorpX’s image zoom option at the expense of black top/bottom bars.

You can find more detailed information regarding the matter in the aforementioned guide in the help.

If you have any further questions regarding the matter, let me know.

    @ blueshark:

I’m obviously biased, but vorpX used together with this GTA mod is still the better way to play GTA V. The standalone mod has no controller support and uses alternate eye rendering for creating 3D, i.e. only one eye gets rendered each frame. vorpX used to do that in its (very) early stages because it’s relatively simple, but compared to a more advanced G3D implementation the method has severe drawbacks since each eye is rendered at a different time, causing odd, potentially dizzying, artifacts with anything that doesn’t stand still.

I was more interested in how the in car scale compared to VorpX.
The thing I dislike about your GTAV profile is sitting in vehicles doesnt feel immersive like they do in Assetto Corsa or PCARS2 in VR. Its hard to explain something is just off scale and feel wise when driving cars in first person.

Ralf – the GTA mod you linked to doesn’t work for me. It will either send the hmd spinning when enabled or instantly crash the game. I think this is why LukeRos made the newest GTA vr mod, because all the others are either Vive focused or plain broken. I agree with you regarding the alternate eye rendering. It isn’t something I can endure for long, and the lack of motion controllers seems a bit odd for this game.

Please take a look at the GTA vr mod you linked to (the one with motion controllers) if you’re saying it does work. For me, it just crashes (using Rift-S).

A video would be nice. Do you play with the Oculus Rift and the touch controller? It works for me but it is not satisfactory. Do you always have this great weapon in your left hand with the VR mod, https://grandtheftvr.com/ see picture of a few posts before that. The FOV is also not suitable as in most games with vorbX. You can have fun with GTA V in VR but play missions badly because of the non-matching FOV.
Image Zoom to 0.52 is not ideal because up and down black bars can be seen. Immersive Screen Mode is also a lazy compromise.

Hello, I’m a new user here. No real reason for this post except to say that after many hours I finally have GTA V working well with VorpX, VR Mod and Transmission mod for my steering wheel. My goal was to drive around the map in Full VR and although it looks (graphically) pretty rough, all the FoV, head tracking and scale of the vehicle looks great :)

I am now going to experiment with some texture compression mods (if the 9Gb download ever finishes from Mega) to see if I can make it looks better.

My PC is not a beast, the CPU is and i5-4670K, 16Gb of DDR3-1600 and my GFX card is a Nvidia GTX 1070 4Gb. So could be alot better. I was getting around 35 game fps which I am going to try and improve upon.

There really is nothing like driving around in GTA V in VR with a wheel and I thank you Ralf for the ability to do this. I really hope Rockstar consider VR in the next game of the series. I wonder if they have even experimented with GTA 5.

    Edit: typos

@lipplog You’ve done a lot of work for me, delete GTA and reinstall, but VorbX and the mod are not working well together. The permanently visible Grafity Gun is unfortunately a mod and the bugs are in the current GTA V version. You do not seem to have played GTA V for a long time, otherwise you would know that. I can only give help if I am still present, months later many things have changed a lot, then I prefer to stay silent, instead of doing extra work for others.

    @ lipplog:

When you use the VR mod make sure to max out the ‘Image Zoom’ slider in the vorpX menu. The mod does not consider vorpX’s image zoom setting when it calculates its FOV.

    @ all

Auto-changing the FOV does not work anymore with the latest GTA V version unfortunately. I’ll see what can be done, but I’m not sure whether it can be restored.

For now you basically have three options:

Use the grandtheftvr mod and max out ‘ImageZoom’ in vorpX. The latter is important for a correct FOV with the mod currently.

    OR

Set ‘Play Style’ to ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ in the vorpX menu. ‘Immersive Screen Mode’ does not require a perfectly matched FOV.

    OR

To play in FullVR mode without the mod max out ‘First Person On Foot FOV’ in the game’s ‘Camera’ options and in vorpX set ‘Image Zoom’ to 0.52. Not ideal since it introduces top/bottom bars, but works fine. The upshot is higher pixel density (better image quality). If vorpX doesn’t apply one automatically, set a 16:9 resolution for maximum image width with this method.

Same problem as skubi007, DirectVR Failed. It was working before. GPU Geforce drivers updated, GTA V reinstalled, profils Vorpx reset to default. Too bad, I recently updated a 980ti for a 2080 Super because of this game at first. I had the same problem with the last days with the 980ti, so it’s not related to the GPU.

Bought an Oculus Rift S last night and also picked up Vorpx!! I’ve just been playing around with the free stuff that is on the Oculus store and Steam as it’s very quick to setup – some is very impressive!

Anyway, I would love to get this setup now. All the youtube videos for GTA IV VR that I can find are 6 years old. The game has been patched a few times since with the latest patch breaking the script hook that most mods rely on as far as I’m aware.

Could you guys running the first person mod please explain to me how you’ve achieved that? Downgrading?

    Many thanks!

deathorb i welcome you and agree with your points number 1,2,3.
i currently am playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, GTA San Andreas, and most recently GTAIV all with the most awesome G3D and first person mod among others.
I haven’t yet experienced Enderal for Skyrim using vorpX i should however but played SkyrimVR with nearly 300 mods at one point and it was incredible.
I love first person in VR looking around closely at things without a body in the way, i really don’t see how game designers don’t get it? really who wants to be a monkey on a some characters back forced to endure a painfull piggy back ride. I want to take on the player, I want to be the player I want to become the player game designers what are you thinking?

This message is for Ralf and dellrifter22 or whoever it may concern about running GTAIV using Vorpx with mods.

Thanks to your work on the new profile. I found the cause of the missing text issue. At least as far as Vorpx settings are concerned.

    This is what I discovered.

After applying the new GTAIV profile Ralf provided and entering the game I was immediately relieved to find the phone text was working now and on further inspection I found the menu’s were now working as well.

However the format in G3D mode was off for my setup so I began to make the normal changes I always do with any game to make it fit nicely in my Pimax8K hmd. After doing so and was again happy I left the apartment in game and tried to pause the game to look at the menu to my horror the text went missing again.
So I went and looked at each individual setting and found
the VorpX setting “FOV enhancement” is the cause of missing text. I usually max this setting out in the Pimax. So I incrementally decreased the setting from like 145 something and found the text doesn’t reappear until this settings is set all the way to 0.

I just repeat the FOV enhancement must be set to 0 in my case.

So I’m relieved that I can now save the game look at phone and computer in game and hopefully complete all story missions in VR using Vorpx.

On a side note Ralf I also found that moving the game from my HD drive to an SD drive fixed a problem I was having on start up of the game.

    Now back to the game

You should be fine pintman getting this game to run in VR with your 1080. With the broken text I have been playing the mission also on my 4k tv. Bouncing back in forth trying to experience the story through the missions and great cutscenes and freeroaming in VR. I never new just how good this game looks not having as nice a GPU when I last played. Never got into modding GTA before its not that difficult really one you aquire the basic tools. Was not bad at modding SkyrimVR with at one point nearly 300 selected mods. Very different modding that game compared to GTA.
I will try to look at what earlier essential vids I checked out and important bits. Possibly provide some tips later to help get you started. Yeah with the Oculus Rift and the 1080 you should have no problem, I’m trying to drive a Pimax8K with higher resolutions.

    Hello v2VR.

It is quite strange, I have been considering buying an Oculus Rift for £200 off gumtree this past few days and I decided to hop on this forum to see how good the software supports different games etc.

GTA IV is my favourite game of ALL TIME.

Could you please keep in touch with me, I would be interested in getting this game working over all others, I just love the worldscape R* created with their version of NYC in this game.

I have tried to mod this game in the past (ENBs etc) but gave up because of the weird conditions you need to do like downgrading your game (and even then there are disputes as to which version to use etc). Did you have to downgrade?

Hi Ralf, Probably not many will jump through the hoops of getting GTA IV working in first person mode buy I will say it is amazing the stereoscopic 3d pops as good as any VR experience when settings are dialed in properly. I have tried yesterday dellrifter22’s suggestion unfortunately the texts on phone and in the menu’s do not show up using whatever vorpx mode immersive screen, z adaptive still no go.
Having played through all of Resident Evil 7 i’m very good at using edge peek being essential in that game at least when i last played it.
If you have the time to look into this it would be great. Besides SkyrimVR and Fallout 4VR and probably more than those I found playing GTAIV using Vorpx with first person mod, at times more realistic and immersive that those two made into VR games. It was the closest thing I have honestly experienced to entering a living breathing lifelike Virtual World. I may try GTAV again but last time i couldn’t get it to work as well.
There is something about the open world design of these gta games having such attention to detail the sounds effects everything works so well in VR for what VR can be using Vorpx.
