I can have WMR portal and SteamVR opened, if I run the game with those, it will work perfectly. I guess it will work if I have them closed too.

Can you be more specific as what you turned on/off in vorpconfig?
Are you running in C drive or other drive?
Are you running steam vr beta or normal?

I think it is working now, I went to vorpx general setting and change the headset to steamvr (headsets) and vorpx did not launch Oculus app automatically. This is 3rd person game, so immersive cinema mode is fine.
