RalfKeymasterSounds as if vorpX can’t find the depth buffer texture and thus the Z3D algorithm produces garbage. That can be an issue in some Z3D games, but I never heard of it for RDR2.
Please first double check that the game really uses DX12, just in case. If it is, try one of the game’s graphics quality presets. Maybe some unusual graphics option combination makes it difficult for vorpX to figure out the right depth buffer if you customized graphics options manually.
Also reset your GPU driver settings to default if you changed anything in its control panel.
Next reset the profile to default in the vorpX config app and if that doesn’t help do a full factory reset (trouble shooting page).
If that also doesn’t help, please create a trouble shooting data archive in the vorpX config app directly after playing the game and send it to support |at| vorpx com, so I can check whether there is something unusual in your logs/system config. Ideally together whith your RDR2 settings file ([Documents]\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings\system.xml).
Jan 10, 2020 at 5:38pm #191772In reply to: vorpX 20.1.1.2 Available Now
RalfKeymaster20/01/10
vorpX 20.1.1 has been released. This is a medium sized maintenance release, mainly aimed at improving/updating existing profiles and addressing a few issues that have been reported recently. On top of that Immersive Screen and Cinema play styles can now be configured for comfortable reclined gaming and a couple of smaller improvements have been implemented. The release also comes with three new game profiles.
As a new service some short descriptions of the games that got profiles added. Let me know if you consider that useful or unnecessary fluff.
Journey
This is an enhanced version of the PS3/4 masterpiece from 2013 that finally was released for PC a few months ago. Find your way through a barren desert in search for a mysterious mountain on the horizon. A unique game with a whopping Metacritic score of 92 for its original release that you will find in many top lists of the best games ever created. More captivating than ever in 3D with vorpX’s Immersive Screen Mode.
A Hat in Time
Feeling grumpy today? This is for you then. A cute 3D-platformer that will put a smile on your face immediately. Who needs Mario when you can have A Hat in Time? Defaults to Immersive Screen Mode, but if you have the stomach, you might also want to try FullVR, vorpX takes care of adjusting the FOV etc.
Little Nightmares
A Steam surprise hit from roughly a year ago. Guide a little girl in a yellow raincoat through her little nightmares in this 2.5D platformer. If you haven’t tried that already, you will be surprised how much fun games like this can be on a huge (virtual) 3D screen. A must for everyone who likes games like Limbo or Inside even a little bit.
Full Changelog
New/Changed:
- Immersive Screen/Cinema mode can be configured for reclined gaming.
- DirectVR: improved FOV calculation for cinema/immersive screen mode
- DirectVR: improved resolution calculation for cinema/immersive screen mode

Deceptive PastryParticipantRead on the Steam forums that some guy used the Conan Exiles profile with Deep Rock Galactic and it worked great. It is mostly working but I’m having an issue with some of the lighting/shading in the game being warped/distorted across the view, like they aren’t attached to the objects they are supposed to be. Image below, effect was mild in this photo but you can see the green light distortion to the left of the Equipment monitor and some other spots.
I had a similar issue with Dead Space 2 where lights (such as on doors) were skewed away/separated from where they were supposed to be. Not sure if this is a common issue or something is wrong on my end?
Dec 9, 2019 at 4:51am #190826In reply to: [Steam] Can’t hook/attach to Red Dead Redemption 2
FlandyParticipantI am having the exact same problem:
Vorpx 19.3.1.2
SteamVR 1.18.21
Windows 1903
Using the Steam version of Red Dead Redemption 2Tried the alternate hooking method, and deleting the documents folder. I get the exact same warning messages as Flandy, and no hook. Vorpx seems to be working great on other games, but not RDR2. I am launching through Steam I don’t know if that matters or not?
Just wanted to bump this thread and bring attention that this may be a common problem among the steam users?
Yeah I’m still having the issue. Was hoping the new update would fix it but alas :\

Nov 30, 2019 at 12:50am #190594In reply to: Before I buy these games can someone confirm?
RalfKeymasterMmm, last time I checked X3 it was clearly 3D. In a large scale space sim you will have to fly fairly close to a station though to notice much of a 3D effect. Just like in reality things hundreds of meters away don’t really have any parallax. If it was any different, everything would look like a miniature world.
From the games on your list personally I would recommend Dead Space, Jedi Knight II, Prey 2017 (must play if you like Deus Ex & Co., you may want to stick to Z3D though), Crysis, Black Mesa, Fallout New Vegas, Left4Dead 2. Most of the others aren’t even officially supported, so I can’t comment on them.
Black Mesa, Fallout New Vegas, Left4Dead 2 have the best possible DirectVR support imaginable, even allowing a little bit of roomscale. Jedi Knight II has DirectVR rotaional tracking and FOV, Crysis and Prey 2017 have DirectVR FOV. All seven should be playable pretty much without tweaking except for adjusting resolution and image quality to your liking.
Nov 15, 2019 at 10:38am #190148In reply to: Red Dead Redemption 2 FullVR with FOV mod
dellrifter22ParticipantIf you are getting crashes after RDR2’s November 14th update, re-download the new 3.2 version for the FOV mod from PCGamingWiki.
If you are getting choppy motion, toggling off vorpX Direct Mode Async may help. This setting is found on the Display Settings page of the delete key menu.
The new patch seems to help with performance, but if you still have additional stuttering, you might enable async compute in RDR2’s system.xml. Not sure if this only applies to Vulkan, but it has helped some gamers.
C:\Users\(user)\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings… system.xml
<asyncComputeEnabled value=”true” />
Another possibly useful patch note that I haven’t tried yet:
*Added an additional launch argument (-cpuLoadRebalancing) to rebalance workload on the CPU cores and avoid hitting an edge-case in certain NVIDIA graphics card drivers that causes significant stalls on 4-core and 6-core CPUs.Hope everyone has been able to resolve their launch issues and are now enjoying the game. I am for sure.
Nov 14, 2019 at 5:43pm #190116In reply to: Red Dead Redemption hooking problem
RalfKeymasterIf it still does not work after checking the above, please do a full factory reset in the vorpX config app (trouble shooting page).
If you continue to have the issue after the factory reset, please check your PC for programs that might interfere with vorpX hooking the game. You can find more detailed information on the matter either in the vorpX help or in the trouble shooting post here on the forum.
Nov 12, 2019 at 12:35am #190008In reply to: Red Dead Redemption 2 FullVR with FOV mod
dellrifter22ParticipantWow, that would be great Ralf! Scalable HUD would make this much more functional. At the very least, a simple mod that can allow the HUD safe-zone lower than 90% as the in game settings permit. I tried looking for a value in the system.xml but couldn’t find one.
@ forlaunchcast: I think the Reverb is prime for vorpX. It’s comfy and convenient to wear, impressive high fidelity screens, and more importantly, a modest FOV great for FullVR. My Pimax8k has awesome FOV, but realistically only few vorpX games can handle that, so you end up seeing the screen edges way too much. My Reverb isn’t perfect (right eye has a few dead pixels and a touch of mura), but overall I’m enjoying the crisp stable image, with quite acceptable brightness and color.
If you get a chance, try running a resolution even higher than 2160p for any game, and you’ll discover how quality and clarity can still improve much beyond 4k. At 2880p, games begin to look as clear as looking at my 1080p monitor. ACOdyssey I’m running 16:9 5120×2880 (double my 2560×1440 monitor) and it looks fantastic. It comes at a framerate cost of course (averaging ~35fps which is my personal tolerance) that may not be acceptable to many, but the potential is there for future processing power to grasp.
I’ve never tested if TVs allow this, but most monitors can imitate higher than native resolutions. Using Nvidia Control Panel you can create and test virtually any res or ratio you want, and if your display passes, you can use that for games. Anyway, sorry for the wordy response, just wanted you to know that that RDR2 begins to look good at 2160p, but man it starts looking great at 2880 if you can manage.
@ calvincrack: I haven’t tried all Low yet myself, but it’s possible that low settings lean more on CPU and are not taking advantage of your monster GPU. See if a mix of medium to high settings do anything to even out performance.
It’s a lengthy watch but if you’re interested, Digital Foundry goes through all the settings explaining performance impact. At the 25:38 marker a chart is displayed for the settings equivalent to the Xbox One X, which may provide a good balance.
My take away was: reduce reflections, volumetric effects, and water physics. Medium SSAO, disable volumetric Ray, and dial back grass distance about half way.
At 3200×2880 my 2080ti is targeting 35-45 fps, which is my personal sweetspot. I may experience hiccups in a random open field at times, but I have not felt any severe impact entering Valentine town for example.
Head tracking at the moment seems to introduce unavoidable stutter reguardless of framerate, so best to use mouse rotation for turning. Hopefully experimenting a bit more with graphic settings can iron out your stability.

dborosevParticipanthaluzzak: I did eventually get it to work once last night. Didn’t do anything special, just rebooted plus all the known stuff discussed in many threads here. (Check out the discussion in the General forum) I haven’t been able to test enough yet to determine what is causing it to not show in the HMD yet. But this weekend should yield some results hopefully. It definitely started happening each time I installed the game and its DirectX. (I uninstalled and re-installed once) Most of the time, none of my VorpX games worked, then it was just RDR2 that didn’t work. But I don’t have enough tests yet to draw any conclusions about anything.
apollon01: I’ll try that too. I have an Odyssey+, you? Maybe some HMDs have different sensors.

jjenssonParticipantCounting the days for it myself. Apart from perhaps the new Jedi game, this is the only game I’m looking forward to anymore this holiday. Almost as excited as I was for Witcher 3.
Haha, we seem to have the same taste in games. I can’t wait to play Jedi: Fallen Order, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is also on my list of the best games of 2019.
It would be a tragedy if those two games don’t work in VorpX, because there is almost nothing new worthwhile to play these days.
That said, there is guy (i think his name is Luke Ross) on Reddit who just published a VR mod for GTA5 that works without VorpX. He also said that it should be theoretically possible to do the same thing for RDR2. Don’t nail me on the details, but those infos are quite fresh and can be found on the Oculus and VirtualReality reddits.

dellrifter22ParticipantWhile an odd site here or there adds windows 8 (not dx12 capable) to the compatible list, the official requirements only mention 7 and 10 (same as Modern Warfare).
This makes me a little nervous, though I’m trying to be optimistic about the Rockstar official requirements page leading with the phrase “Red Dead Redemption 2 has been specifically developed to perform on a wide range of machines”.
There are info rumors derived from data mining that reference both dx11 and dx12 support, including ultra settings and features. I have no doubt there will indeed be support for 12, I just hope the 11 part is true also.

RalfKeymasterThat’s not quite as important anymore for modern games as it used to be. Most games these days use low latency mouse input with almost as little latency as memory scanner head tracking. The memory scanner is still quite a bit better for other reasons, but the advantage isn’t as huge with most newer games.

Read on the Steam forums that some guy used the Conan Exiles profile with Deep Rock Galactic and it worked great.
