Current vr hardware cannot yet match the quality of your monitor sadly, but the day will come :)

It could be an unsupported resolution issue for Outlast, I remember only being able to hit 1920×1080 with that game. I know Fallout 4 doesn’t like smaller aspect ratios, and corners the image this way for unsupported resolutions.

If it keeps happening, I’d suggest restoring the game back to defaults by validating it’s file cache in steam settings. If that fails, then a fresh reinstall. I’ve had to do this on rare occasion.

It’s the mass amounts of film grain and lack of AA that make Outlast harder to look at, yet overall it is still a good vr experience.

Outlast for some time was a fairly popular vorpX title, there certainly is no general performance issue with it, should run at steady 45fps using a decent resolution (1600×1200) with a much slower GPU than yours.

What I would recommend is resetting your graphics driver settings in the nVidia control panel to default and make sure that antialising is disabled in the game if it has such an option. Some Unreal Engine 3 games suffer a severe FPS loss with vorpX when AA is enabled. I don’t recall Outlast to be among them, but I wouldn’t rule it out either.

More general: although that shouldn’t be necessary for Outlast on your machine, it’s always worth to consider Z3D in games that don’t perform well with G3D. Doesn’t look as natural, but is a lot faster.

    Hello guys.

I just bought my Oculus Rift, and the bought vorpx. I did Oculus’ tutorial, SteamVR tutorial, played a bit of Lucky’s Tale and The Lab.

On all these tests, VR graph was great. Almost as great as in my monitor. Indeed, in some The Lab environments I really felt I was inside it, given the quality of texture and lighting.

Then I went to vorpx, and graphics are bad. And very very bad. I first tried Outlast (coincidently, it’s for free on Humblebundle!). Used 1920×1440 with no performance issues, but graph was very ugly, much worse than monitor. It seems the game is in 8bit color…

Maybe it was because the game is very dark, so I tried Oblivion. But again, very ugly graphics, as if in 8bit color. I made some tweaks changing its fov, its resolution, no luck.

In both games I applied Optimize Settings.

Also, sometimes menu texts are almost unreadable, in both immersive and EdgePeek modes. Even vorpx ingame menu is very hard to read.

I started to believe it was Rift’s lack of quality, but I went back to Lucky’s Tale and its graph is great.

Considering that monitor graph is 100%, I’d give The Lab a 95%, Lucky’s Tale a 85%, and both Outlast and Oblivion not even 20%.

Really, it’s so bad that games are unplayable. It’s not a matter of resolution, headache, disorientation. I’m feeling no sickness at all and my GTX 1070 is easily running these games. It’s that colors are very very bad, even worse than old Quake colors.

Anything I can try? This is very frustrating because I really wanted to play horror and TES games on VR. I wasn’t expecting to have the dame image quality of my monitor, but I can’t play games this ugly.

Just got vorpx after being on the fence a while. I had heard so many mixed reviews, but kept hearing people say that it was worth it if you don’t mind file tinkering. Well, I tried it and love it. It’s an amazing tool, and I’ve so far got Bishock, Amnesia, and Outlast running close to what I’d imagine native support would like. Thanks devs.

However, I’m having an issue with the Stanley Parable. It is supposed to be one of the better suited games for vorpx, so I’m not sure what gives. The game loads fine when not using vorpx, but when I do use it, the Galactic Cafe logo appears (along with the vorpx logo at the bottom), and then the screen goes black.

That’s it. Oddly, there is a little white box maybe 12×12 pixels wide that appears on the right side of the screen, but it’s all black besides that and the vorpx logo at the bottom.

I’ve tried the normal fixes, run as admin etc, but can’t get it work. Any one have any ideas?

So all I need to do is place the .ini you provided in your google drive link in the outlast2.exe directory and geometry 3d will work iusing vorpx? I’m sorry your post isn’t as ideally comprehensive as I’d like lol

i managed to make the 3d geometry work, you just need to get the Depth access,
what programm you need is reshade https://reshade.me/ and https://github.com/BlueSkyDefender/Depth3D

only what you need is the depth access or it wont really work with the 3D,
if you can’t manage to get the depth access then use my ini file and put it where the .exe file is https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6UEgEz-ERXxbWd3TUNxSzh3S3c

what im using with my HTC vive is Virtual Desktop and active SBS and thats it !

if you want to follow more of my Unreal Engine 4 stuff then you really need to check out my youtube channel :)

    hello,

outlast 2 and prey 2017 are not working at all with vorpx.

previously we could try to copy present profiles and link the game exe and try it in vorpx to see if it works and most of the time it worked.

but with those 2 games, it’s not luck, maybe because they are X64 exe ?
or maybe it’s because the steamapi is steam_api64.dll and not steam_api.dll ?

prey hook using crysis 3 profile but the game crash right before the menu.

outlast 2 hook with some profile but Z3D buffer let alone G3D buffer doesnt work at all.

i’d like to know if a new update of vorpx could make those games works, that would be incredible.

    thank you.

i’m asking vorpx users if any of You got any success regarding outlast 2 in geometry 3D.

This fact went right over ol’ dborosevs head unfortunately lol

We should all be trying every ue3 game to get it working.

This is EXACTLY what is needed if anyone is going to find a profile that works. I’m afraid that G3D will still be a wait. It’s a tricky beast.

You can have almost identical games, engine and all, sequels that come out only months apart, still require an actual new profile via an update. It sucks but that’s the way it is.

Here is a quote from you, after we waited over a month for any sort of Mass Effect Andromeda news.

oh my…. guys, give Ralf a break.
do you really think games are easy to make them vorpx compatible ?
MEA just got released, and Ralf has probably already his hands full of tasks.
    give him time.

And we weren’t even asking him at that point, just discussing cinema mode vs. direct VR in the thread.

Outlast 2 has been out what, a few days?
Whats it like, being on the other side, waiting for game news? Fun right?
Let me know how you feel in a month.

uh ? i’m not harassing ralf to make it vorpx geometry3D ready unlike you.

i’m asking vorpx users if any of You got any success regarding outlast 2 in geometry 3D.

i’m not a impatient spoiled kid who beg ralf h24.
