Direct VR in Portal 2 relies on vorpX overwriting the game’s FOV very often, very fast. Maybe something on your machines interferes with that. Most likely potential candidate would be some aggressive antivirus software that constantly monotor memory operations. Please try to disable your Av scanner and check whether that helps.

The vorpX gamepad emulation is disabled on purpose while Direct VR is active in favor of a game’s native gamepad functionality since with Direct VR there can’t be any conflicts between the vorpX head tracking and gamepads. ATM I’m not 100% sure whether Portal 2 has native gamepad support though, if not you could use an external gamepad emulator like Pinnacle Profiler for example.

It’s possible to ‘walk’ one or two steps in many games with Geometry 3D support. Not really roomscale, but there is positional tracking in many G3D games that allows for a little bit of movement.

Some games with positional Direct VR support (direct manipulation of a game’s camera, e.g. Bioshock series, Half-Life 2, Left for Dead 2, Portal 1+2, Fallout 4) also allow a bit more than that, which could be called ‘basic roomscale’.

Under the supported games section it states WoW should work in stereo 3d and it does not. Any idea on when this will work? It looks like you can’t enable the G3D mode which is causing it. I tried portal 2 and it worked w/ G3D set.

    It’s misleading and false advertising.

    Hello guys,

I recently bought VorpX for my HTC Vive but it seems like nothing is working out the way it should. Some games don’t work at all, and others don’t work properly. For now I told myself, well, it’s just this game, nothing important. Now I tried Portal 2 and it seems like everything was great. Until I tried to move around. When I press any button, the vision turns upside down, as well as the headtracking. I can’t figure out why, and how to solve it.

Can anybody help me with this?

The Bethesda stuff works great with VorPX, currently enjoying Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas, and holding off on Fallout 4 to see what happens with the official VR mod… As for performance I just upgraded to a 1080ti which improved things quite a bit, however I’m still not getting great performance.

For instance I can run SkyrimSE with max settings at 2400×1800 and it looks great, but I still get visual stuttering even though Afterburner real-time stats show that neither CPU or GPU are hitting 100% at the time. I’ll have to do more benchmarking, but I’m assuming that brute force just isn’t enough for perfect performance, and there are some inherent bottlenecks with this mod. I’m just not sure if bumping up to an i7 7700 will provide any more performance than i’m already getting with the i5 6500…

The experience is still very enjoyable, even if perfect performance is a physical impossibility ;)

Also enjoying Bioshock Infinte (although it seems to be crashing all the time now for some reason), Resident Evil 7, Far Cry Primal, The Portal games, Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

Here’s a pic of my new rig, most people seem to get a kick out of it :)

Thank you Ralf! The problem with portal 2 about the dead pixels was because I was using Z-Adaptive. I realized I had to set it to Off or Geometry. Concerning Left 4 Dead 2, I realized that what was making the game crash was a Windows’ User setting. When playing left 4 dead 2, my computer requested my permission. For some reason, I was not able to see this sign until I closed the game. Not even my task manager was able to take me to my window’s main screen. So the solution was to turn off the setting that makes windows ask for my permission when running an application. After I did that, Left 4 Dead 2 didn’t crash and it ran perfectly.

Again, thank you so much for your help! The only games I am not able to run now are Slender: The Arrival and GTA V. I read that you said that Slender should have a VR option, but I’m not able to find it. When I try to run it with vorpX my computer crashes. Finally, I realized that my computer not wanting to run any games after I played the first one was just a temporal thing. Today I was able to play many games and all of them worked just fine.

Thanks Ralf. The good news is Dishonored worked like a dream before Direct VR anyway. I noticed some other reports about this around the web, but it’s just anecdotal at this point. FWIW, I had similar issues with Vireio’s memory scan related to Dishonored. I don’t know if your methods are similar, but that could point to something on my end for sure.

In terms of the mouse issue, Portal 2 works just fine without Direct VR. I just need that fine mouse control. For Dear Esther, I may try standing & using the controllers.

    Thanks again for the reply.

For Dear Esther and Portal 2 Direct VR has to completely override the mouse, IIRC these are the only ones where that was necessary. Not sure about the failing scanner, I’ll check whether the scan parameters can be adjusted to co cover more possible addresses without breaking anything. Like the message on the scanner screen says there always is a certain chance of failure unfortunately depending on your individual system. All games still work like before in case a scan fails.

I have an idea how potentially hide weapons/hands in *some* games. That would include Skyrim and the other Bethesda games. For now it’s just an idea, so I can’t promise anything yet. Keep your fingers crossed.

I found fix for skyrim in i put in the game hints section.. but others like portal 2 and left for dead 2 and contagion I couldn’t find any fix.. well in portal 2 you can make the gun completely invisible with a console command which works fine.. tbh anything you could do to try and resolve it as to me it’s the biggest issue with many games in VorpX

so it doesn’t seem to effect every single game but a lot it goes.. FOV has no effect, playing the 3D strength doesn’t fix it. Mods in games like skyrim don’t see to make any difference.. the last 3 I tried all had this issue skyrim, Contagion and Portal 2. The hands/guns are so massive they take basically the entire screen when aiming.. you can adjust them out of view a bit but they are still monstrous.. doesn’t see like there is anything you can do to resolve this.. in portal 2 you can actually make the weapon model invisible which is a workaround i guess

    Hi!
I am having trouble getting Vorpx to hook into a non-steam version of Outlast 2 using my HTC vive.

I can get Vorpx to run fine with Outlast 1 and Portal 2 when launched through steam, but any non-steam game doesnt seem to work.

What might I be doing wrong?
I have SteamVR open and I have even tried to create a desktop shortcut through Vorpx, but every time I open the game (shortcut or not) it just launches normally on my main monitor? (sound in the HTC vive headset though – dont know if that means anything).

I have tried unplugging monitors so I only have 1 and my htc vive, but it doesnt work. It seems it is only non-steam games I have a problem with.

Hope you can help! Please ask if there is any more information you need to give an educated guess as to what might be going wrong.

    Best,
    Thomas T

I have tested vorpX with several of my games and it works great. However, Portal 2 seems to have some troubles that I don’t really know how to fix. The most annoying one is the fact that the bottom and right side of the screen are just thick boxes of pretty much dead pixels that only have color information. There is no definition at all, it’s like an inverted “L” whose texture looks a lot like the face of the creature on the right side of this picture: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pxyHtHT9z2OcXNc1wsR6hWxTi-hXRQ9N7-wleXkY-BtyQgNH50IuD9CSrSoOgVmLhow=h900

Is anyone else having this same problem? I have tried changing some settings but it’s not doing anything. I also realized that this is the only game that is not being displayed on my monitor. The screen simply turns black as soon as the game starts. However, on my Rift looks fine, but I can’t figure out how to get rid of those big pixelated areas that don’t allow me to see part of the screen.

Just in case this is important: I usually play all of my games on Virtual Cinema Mode. This problem won’t go away if I have this setting set to on or off. If anyone knows anything about this problem I would really appreciate your help.

    Thank you so much!

    I have an r9 290, i54670k and 8gb of ram.

I’m interested in buying Vorpx but as there is no demo and I don’t think refunds are possible I’m not sure what the performance would be like.

Does anyone have any experience with a similar set up in games like Skyrim and Portal? Can you hit 90fps nearly 100% of the time?
