I have had this happen to my manually saved games twice in the last 2 days. I am setting up Skyrim for VR and mods etc so have been loading in and out to test FPS and make sure nothings broken.

I have no idea what is causing this. Very frustrating though as I have to keep going back to my initial autosave, which is immediately after character creation, and watch the dragon swooping in again.

*This is before any mods installed, so nothing to do with mods.

Hey, just wanted to report an issue I ran across.

    1. Set up VoRPX & Skyrim
    2. Test run went awesome, all the features were working except for the UI (known)
    3. Did a lot of tweaking to the settings in-game and on VoRPX (everything still working fine up to this point)
    4. Installed the mods in this guide: http://riftmod.com/how-to-skyrim-and-oculus-rift-with-a-fixed-hud/
    5. Attempted to load the game through SKSE (worked once VoRPX was set to admin.)

—> In-game look doesn’t work. HT itself is working and functions normally with mouse cursor. However, the character doesn’t turn like he did in the cart.

I’m now reinstalling from scratch verify that the mods were not responsible.

Any idea what setting I may have hit? I used the built-in setting reset for the game’s VoRPX profile.

That doesn’t sound good. Please check whether there is a file called d3d9.dll in your Skyrim folder. Some mods (ENB mods for example) install this. If you find this file, please rename it, vorpX will not work while it is present. Also please try a fresh Skyrim install without any mods in case of problems.

If you are on Windows 8 you might have to choose “Landscape flipped” instead of “Portrait” for the display orientation. The icon of the Rift in the Windows display config has to look like a normal wiedescreen monitor.

Also please make sure to run all games at 1920×1080, fullscreen for the DK2.

If none of the above solves the issue, and the same problem (vorpX not hooking) occurs for all games, there is a high probability that something on your PC interferes with vorpX. This might be a virus scanner, anything that can show content over games (for example chat programs like Skype, Mumble, X-Fire, Evolve etc.), or display driver add-on like Optimus, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner etc. Please disable all such programs temporarily.

The trouble shooting guide in the help has a more detailed list of what you should look into in this regard.

Skyrim (maybe Outlast too): If you have a gamepad attached to your PC, please make sure to disable it in the game options. Skyrim disables the mouse when a gamepad is enabled, which also disables vorpX’s head tracking.

You will still be able to use your gamepad through the built in gamepad emulation in vorpX.

If that doesn’t work, please make sure that no other program is accessing your Rift at the same time. This might even be a crashed one. if in doubt, reboot your PC.

For games without a mouselook function (like many racing games) things are a bit more complicated:

One option is OpenTrack, the other option to emulate a gamepad axis with the vorpX head tracking. The first option is the better one, simulating a gamepad has a few drawbacks.

    A. OpenTrack compatible with DK2:

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/544fbhsokdpy3n7/AAAKwl6BluqwT9Xn2slyp0dCa

    B. Head tracking as gamepad

    1. Press [DEL] to open the in-game menu
    2. Go to Input page
    3. Set ‘Handle Gamepads Internally’ to Off
    4. Set ‘Headtracking as Gamepad’ to Relative or Absolute depending on the game. You should get a grasp of what is better quickly.
    5. Map the emulated ‘gamepad’ to the look around functions in the game you want to play. Do not leave this step out, it’s vital!

The options below this should be more or less self explanatory except maybe Deadzone Correction, which efectively eliminates analog stick deadzones set by the game.

Now you are able to look around in your cockpit. The view has to be centered from time to time because of possible yaw drift (should be greatly reduced with an calibrated magnetometer). There is a shortcut for centering.

I have tried several games that are on the support list, F1 2012, Skyrim, as well as Outlast. I’ve responded to several topics hoping for a response but there doesn’t seem to be any, so I thought I’d create my own thread.

I can’t get headtracking with any of them, and I have even tried using Opentrack, but nothing seems to work. I want to set the rift input as the analogue stick on the controller to look around, but I can’t figure out how to do that, and I didn’t see anything in the settings. Or I couldn’t figure it out.

    My system specs are.
    DK2
    Runtime 0.4.x (not sure but I know it’s 4)
    i7 4790k Win 7 64
    GTX 780 ti 3gb
    16gb ram, if that’s important.

Other Rift games, like Windlands, and Radial G, work great. I also had some head and positional tracking, in Dirt 3, DCS, and War Thunder, although it was extremely laggy.

I did get GTA to run but like F1, and Skyrim, there is no head or positional tracking. Other than that, the 3D is great and the visuals are nice, I just can’t figure out how to get head tracking working.

    Thanks for any support.

If I had known I would have to wait for an email back from you guys I would have bought this a couple of days ago. Does this usually take long? I’m sitting here with a DK2 that NEEDS Skyrim in it lol. If you guys happen to see an email from rufus83@*****.com, Please respond soon? Thanks! :D

    Thanks for the tips, Ralf.

I reinstalled, and before running it, I immediately reinstalled the SDK 1.4.3 over the one included in Vorpx. And then I didn’t fiddle with the config other than to set it to only show on DK2.

It seems to be running fine now, and I have a fun test session playing the first few levels of mirrors edge. I think part of the earlier problem was that I’d set the config to clone screens, and something in Skyrim didn’t like it.

It’s not a perfect solution, but as a workaround for using DK2 on older games, I’m pretty impressed with the way it works.

I have one more question, and one suggestion.

First, does the head tracking only emulate mouse movement, or can it be used like trackir in games that support it eg. Arma and rFactor?

Also, I’m guessing that anyone with a DK2 buying this software probably already has the DK2 runtimes installed, and those without a DK2 don’t need it. I think the Vorpx installation probably doesn’t need to download and install them as well, especially if it’s not the current version. At least let it do a check for installed/newer versions. Just a suggetsion.

Having head tracking also control body direction is fairly disorienting. Is it possible to separate body directional movement via gamepad from head tracking?

I apologize if this question has already been answered, I did spend some time looking around, however, I could not find any answers.

I’m having some similar, although possibly unrelated problems with my install of Vorpx.

I installed it and it all seemed to run ok, albeit the view in the rift was sideways, but when I started a game (Skyrim) it put my monitor into 1024×768 resoolution, and crashed the game. Sorry can’t recall the exact error message now. Not only that, but afterwards, any time I turned on the DK2, my monitor and DK2 would reset to the 1024×768 resolution, and there was no way to return it to 1920×1080. None of the higher resolutions even appeared in my nvidia control panel.

Frustrated after an hour or so trying to fix it, I uninstalled Vorpx, but the resolution would still go low whenever I turned on my DK2. I ended up having to roll back to an earlier restore point just to get things functioning again. Needless to say I’m hesitant to reinstall it now, but I would really like to get it working since it wasn’t exactly cheap.

I suspect part of the problem may have been that I fiddled with some of the config tool settings before even trying it in a game. Reading some of the threads here, that may have been a mistake.

I’m running Windows 7 64 bit and the 1.4.3 runtime for the DK2. Please help.

There already is an option called “G3D Latency Enhancement” on the input page of the vorpX ingame menu which eliminates input lag almost entirely. It applies head rotation directly in vorpX, completely circumventing the games input pipeline.

You can experiment with that in every Geometry 3D game. Setting it to something around 0.3 should usually suffice, above 0.7 lag is even gone in games that run below 60/75fps (read Skyrim).

One small caveat: enabling this in Skyrim creates a slight rendering artifact with far clouds/fog when turning your head. But that’s not really bad.

In case you haven’t done that already the other thing you can/should do is adjusting the head tracking sensitivity in vorpX until turning your head feels fully natural.

Can’t say anything in regard to the mod unfortunately.

Sounds great! Will there be more avaible new options for skyrim? I was thinking about that there’s a smooth delay when turning your head/mouse in skyrim, that feels a bit off. I was thinking of finding a mod that makes the “mouse movement” more accurate, and maybe this takes the small delay away? I also tried the Immersed first person mod to get “freelook” it works fine and is very nice to be able to look att your side while running. But it affected the Fov, havent give it much time to tweak yet, but did not find a solution. To get the fov back to 120

Currently not, but you won’t have to wait long for that anymore. The next update which will include this option will definitely happen this month.

Won’t work for all games in regard to playing with the mouse, but Skyrim (and probably all other Bethesda RPGs) is among them.

When using a gamepad with vorpX’s internal gamepad handling it will work with everything (including games that normally don’t work with a gamepad).

Is there any way to turn off the Y axis movement in Skyrim and other games?
I herd Vireio implemented this and it’s supposed to make a big difference in game play.

Everything is working great now at this point. I have a ton of different mods working with skyrim and oculus and the only thing I have left to figure out has to deal with when your looking at clouds or mountains in the distance the grey colors seem to flicker a bunch. Anyone have any clue on how to stop that?
