lthompso333ParticipantI would 2 additional licenses right now just to have whatever untested version was used for the Skyrim Demo.

VorpX Update to Add Oculus Rift DK2 Support and More – Skyrim Positional Tracking Demo (video)

JackDTParticipantRalf, from one developer to another: small, timely updates keep the community interest in your software high.
We should all be here to talk about how awesome VorpX is, but instead, it’s been 9 months since we had even a minor update, and we’re all on the spectrum of impatient and pissed off.
it’s not just DK2 support people are impatient for – it’s all of the small features and everything that has been promised. You’re bundling too many features into each update. From what I’m reading, this update will include DK2 support, DX11 geometry support, lots of setting changes, fixed shaders in Skyrim, an automated licensing solution, and probably more that you haven’t mentioned. That is just NUTS. Hell, I’d be happy with the letterbox rendering changes only, which were supposedly resolved 4 months ago. Why do I have to wait for DK2 support for that fix? You’re trying to be Internet Explorer when you should be Chrome. Change your dev cycle to release small features silently and very often. It minimizes risk for you, keeps your community engaged and happy, and shows that you are constantly working on our investment.
I’m looking at purchasing VorpX and the fact that the last update was so long ago was what made me hold off. A history of updates on a steady tic is totally what inspired confidence in a purchase — even if the updates are very small.
Alternatively an unstable branch that showed changes over time would have probably sufficed.
This probably makes your development life a tiny bit more complicated in that you’d maintain a separate branch for the biggest changes, but as someone who started doing that in my own stuff I’ve found that the extra discipline and organization this imposes is actually improving the final output of my work.

PatriotofLifeParticipantIts the DK2, it runs on different software. Im sure he is trying to get the positional tracker working for most games. He (I think it was him) already got it working for Skyrim but im sure he is just testing it and fixing bugs at this point. :P

graylynParticipantPatriotLife seems to be the only one who doesn’t care when a release is. Probably because he,
A) Doesn’t have a DK2
B) Is waiting on a DK2
C) Doesn’t have a DK1
D) Doesn’t even have Vorpx
E) Any combination of the above, OR, he is JUST a member of this forumI know Ralf is trying very hard, but we do need little news updates every now and then. No update whatsoever from November 2013 and no blog post from December 2013. Then the video of the DK2 Vorpx update on Skyrim that didn’t specify that it was just a demo was somewhat misleading. And, when given a response of “Soon ;)” when asked by RoadtoVR.com means, to me and to many others, “I don’t have the slightest idea”. If you have an update demoing something you should release it or have a general time span/window when it is going to be released, especially when you show proof that it is working and working well. I would be satisfied knowing the 11 new games. Ralf, if you’re reading this, please release that list. It will not only real in customers, but will also satiate the anger/irritation/negative overall outlook on the lack of information.
I just want some more info. Not “All I can say today is that we will be as fast as possible.” I’m sorry that I want to be sure I didn’t spend $40 dollars on a program that may not last until the next update. I mean there could have been a release to fix shadows on Skyrim for the DK1 in the span of 9 months(November 2013 to July 31st 2014) and 5 months before the availability to pre-order the DK2. And Vorpx is so successful enough, in my opinion, to have gotten a deal with Oculus to get a DK2 way before anyone else as to be ready for the DK2 release in July. There are multiple issues here, Not just a bunch of “impatient, overly excited people wanting to use a new toy”. Granted, this is a wonderful and innovative program and has the potential to go hand in hand with CV1. But if this continues Vorpx could lose support and income before that happens.Aug 6, 2014 at 6:21pm #16021In reply to: First Aid: Using vorpX 0.64 with the DK2
bcozierParticipantAfter reading an article about the latest vorpx working with DK2 head tracking and skyrim and praising how great the 3d effects were in bioshock infinite I immediately came here and bought it. Nothing in the article about it being a special build they were using, the said the latest version. So I was disappointed to learn that what was reviewed wasn’t available for me to try. It seems somewhat misleading the article should have said they got a special test preview that isn’t yet available, because I too was a bit peeved when the latest vorpx available 0.64 wasn’t even compiled against SDK 0.40. That being said I am not going to ask for any refund and will support Ralph. I guess he’s a one man team and must be getting little sleep trying to fix things he’s not satisfied with releasing in current state. All of this stuff is pretty groundbreaking, I waited since may for my DK2. We are early adopters and I plan to learn how to develop for it as well, but right now I am more interested in using the tech and as an early adopter we just got to sit tight and hope when the new vorpx is released we will think it was worth the wait.

RalfKeymasterYes, the next version of vorpX will have correct shadows in Skyrim.

SolmorsParticipantThanks for the quick response, Ralf!
I tried the duplicate/clone mode last night, and that screenshot is the error I got when trying to launch Skyrim. Also note that the resolution is set to 1440×900, maybe that is because my main monitor that I am duplicating is 2560×1440? Maybe I should try switching my main to my left side 1080p one and disabling the rest for now.
Thanks for the advice, I hope you get yours soon!

SolmorsParticipantI just got my DK2 today. and at the moment it does not work at all with the three games I’ve tried in “Direct HMD Access from Apps” mode (ARMA III, Mirrors Edge, and Skyrim). And it has major problems in “Extend Desktop to the HMD” mode. In ARMA III, the game launches, but the game is not projecting two images and there seems to be problem with the colors as well. I also can’t access the in game menu because my mouse wont travel to that part of the screen for some reason. In Mirrors Edge the game just doesn’t launch after a “Head tracking init failed” error. In Skyrim it gives that same head tracking error as well as “failed to initialize renderer”.
I was so excited when it arrived today, but now I am bummed because I can’t get a single game to work on it.

RalfKeymasterSkyrim: In case you use any mods, please try a fresh and modless (vanilla) install first, and install your mods again one by one afterwards. The vast majority of mods will work fine with vorpX, but there are so many of them that it is impossible to tell whether some might cause issues. Mods that use the Skyrim Script Extender or ‘ENB mods’ are likely candidates for causing trouble.
For Far Cry 3 the following things might be worth to check:
1. Disable the in-game overlay in Uplay, otherwise you might get a black screen on startup.
2. Switch from DX9 to DX11 or vice versa. Maybe one works better for you.
3. The game sometimes seems to require several tries until vorpX hooks correctly unfortunately. Starting the game multiple times should suffice, you probably do not have to restart vorpX.Generally please check for the following things (some of that you might have done already):
1. Just in case: make sure that you run vorpX Control, not vorpX Config. It shows a tray icon in the taskbar when it is running.
2. If you use more than one monitor, check whether disconnecting the additional monitor(s) helps.
3. Make sure to set Windows display config to clone mode and vorpX monitor config to ‘Use system settings’ (which is the default).
4. If still nothing works after verifying that, there is a high probability that something on your PC interferes with vorpX. This might be a virus scanner, anything that can show content over games (for example chat programs like Skype, Mumble, X-Fire, Evolve etc.), or a special display driver. Please disable all such programs temporarily.
5. If you didn’t do that already, please take a look at the trouble shooting sticky above.
If you still have similar issues with multiple games afterwards, please write a mail to support |at| vorpx com for some individual trouble shooting, including basic system specs and the games you tried.

GarrWolfdogParticipantI’ve tried with HL2, farcry3 and Skyrim and I can’t get VorpX to do anything. it acts just like vorpx isn’t there.
I’ve check for the problematic DLL files, made sure the control program is running, checked all the hardware is connected as it should be, and tried creating VorpX desktop shortcuts; as other threads have suggested but with no luck.
Can I get some support on this?Feb 26, 2014 at 9:54am #13127In reply to: Skyrim not starting in 3D
Mert7ParticipantI Launched skyrim with SKSE and it worked fine for the most part. Even though I read in some documentation that it’s not supposed to work very well. I suggest downloading nexus mod manager even if you don’t want to mod it, it bypasses the launcher app.
