I’m having a lot of trouble with Skyrim on my GTX 970. I did find playable settings and am having a blast but everything is on low. I would love to play on ultra and add some mods but my GTX 970 isn’t cutting it. I want to upgrade my Video Card so I can crank up the settings. If my card should be able to do this I’d love to know but I’m guessing I just need to upgrade. So what card should do it? I was going to get a 1070 but if that’s not enough or overkill I have no idea. I’d rather not spend a lot on a 1080 but if I need a 1080 I will get one. Does anyone know a card that can do it?
Hello first time here.
I bought a Rift a few weeks ago and so far have only used it with Elite Dangerous. I first set it up with Steam VR but seems I can just use the Oculus application.
If I understand correctly, VorpX is not replacing these applications right ? It is inserted somewhere between the game and the Oculus application ?
Although I intend to buy VorpX if only just for Skyrim and Alien Isolation eventually, I wonder if it can do anything for me in Elite. Specifically, some graphical stuff like distant stars rendered as red and green streaks, but mostly the possibility to take notes or consulting PDF documents without having to pause/leave the game (apparently Elite doesn’t like alt-tabbing to and from it…).

I can get around all of these issues but wanted to feedback just in case they were not reported:
Internal Resolution Scale (2x) is not compatible with Z-Normal 3D.
Workaround: I created a custom resolution of 2560 * 2048, which I believe is an identical result.
The Scan consistently doesn’t work when you are using the Gamepad (Xbox One) natively. I.e. VorpX set to not handle gamepad at all (IMO best combined with scan as the onscreen prompts are right and you still get headtracking). Xbox 360 controller checked in settings.
If the game is launched with these settings then scan fails on rotation.
Workaround: Uncheck 360 controller through game, run scan (succeeds), recheck box – everything works.
I also get an odd thing whereby the audio device keeps changing back to my TV when I exit the game. No big issue – just need to remember to set it before each play.
The other odd thing I get is that when launched through Steam the FPS shows as consistently 45/45. If launching through SKSE Its around 85/90. Not sure if this is just an issue of reporting. Both are very smooth.
Have to say this game feels like a native title. At this resolution running so smoothly I am having a blast. Thanks to Ralf and the team for the hard work!
I know I know that so many people have asked this question before.
But none of solutions on internet work for me. Changing 1stfov in skyrim.ini doesn’t help. I have tried some mod that use 3rd person arms instead of 1st person . That can solve huge hands but it feel really weird because most of the time you can’t see your weapon while you are swinging in combat.
Again I’m not looking for a “perfect” solution. Just something that can make skyrim playable . Thanks.
Im kinda surprised nobody brings this up being that Skyrim is pretty much one of the main reasons folks buy vorpx.
Ive tried changing the world and 1rstperson fov, doesnt help, so whats the deal? Surely with this many folks someone has figured this out?
Maybe the creator Ralf? I can tell you I will be pretty disappointed if Skyrim is considered “Supported” even though this issue exists. This is frankly a pretty big issue.
Hi HalloMolli,
I just got vorpX yesterday and spent all night getting the original Skyrim working and I’ve finally narrowed it down to these steps:
One time setup:
1. Restore factory defaults for Skyrim profile.
2. Run the Game Settings Optimizer for Skyrim.
Each time you play:
1. Start vorpx (not desktop)
2. Start Skyrim.
3. Make sure Gamepad override is set to full before you scan.
4. Scan using ALT-L.
5. Set Gamepad override to off.
I’m using an Xbox controller. If you use the mouse/keyboard, you may not need to worry about toggling the Gamepad override. I will say that if the Gamepad override is on when you scan, it will lock the world to your head movement which is undesirable and will make you feel sick. When everything is setup correctly, looking around will seem natural and will not be locked to the world view. I hope this makes sense. On the lowest graphic setting, I get about 90 FPS in Geometry mode. It drops to about 45 FPS on the highest setting. I get better performance in Z-Buffer mode, but there are glitched bars on the right and bottom of the view that I can’t seem to remove.
Hope this helps!
Peace \/

Wow, thank you so much for your helpful advice! As soon as I return home I’ll give it a try! And yeah, I use an Xbox Controller as well. =)
Please read the notifications that are shown when a game starts! They often contain very useful information.
In Skyrim you can scale the HUD further down on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu If you want. Alternatively you can use the EdgePeek function (middle mouse button) to access menus, which temporarily zooms the image out.
BTW: this and other useful functions are explained in the quickstart guide. Many questions you may have may get anwered by reading the various guides in the help.
Sorry no I haven’t done that yet. Another thing bugging me about Skyrim. The HUD seems to be all the way on the left and right making it hard to see. When I loot a corpse it is really hard to see it. Thanks for all the help
Did you run the Direct VR scanner in Skyrim like indicated when you start the game? It takes care of both FOV and head tracking automatically. All you need to do is run the scan after entering the game world.
RE7 is not officially supported. If there is a profile for it, it’s a custom profile made by a user. I have no idea whether the FOV can be changed beyond what is possible in the game, sorry. if not, you can always use the steps from the “1-2-3 Game Setup” in the vorpX help though. Not perfect, but a good way to deal with games where absolutely no option exists to change the FOV.
Although I did have the zoomed in effect. Setting the fov to 120 via the in game console seemed to have fixed that, but I am getting a bit of motion sickness. Guess that is a separate issue. I am using a RE7 demo profile, and everything looks so zoomed in. Unlike Skyrim I can’t seem to find a way to adjust the fov. No way to open the console in game and in the options the fov only goes up to 90.
Hi, i wonder, yesterday i was palying around with skyrim and enb. I used to have the enb injector version installed . This setup used to work with vorpx.
Now i installed the wrapper version of the enb with the original d3d9.dll.
I started the game and of course vorpx said the d3d9.dll is conflicting.
I confirmed the checkbox and guess what the game started and enb was working fine.
Why ?
Please try to uninstall Skyrim, then delete your Skyrim folder, and finally reinstall the game. A dxgi.dll does not belong in a game directory normally. It’s a system DLL and normally can only be found in your Windows system folder. If you don’t even know how the dxgi.dll got into your Skyrim folder, I wouldn’t rule out that there are other override DLLs that also don’t belong there.
BTW: If you also have the original Skyrim, I would recommend that unless you absolutely crave for the more colorful look of the SE. The original in most cases runs better with vorpX.
Whenever I run it, I get a conflict with dxgi.dll. It says to either rename or remove it. I deleted the dll, but then skyrim fails to load when I launch it and crashes.
I had the head locking problem as well and figured out that it was due to my game pad being turned on already before launching skyrim. I posted more about it in the technical support forum so check that out if you think your issue might be related to mine.
I never bothered to check what the vorpx in game menu was saying about the override, I just know that it worked perfectly if I followed this start up sequence and that just from playing I could tell that game pad emulation was completely off
Ok, just wanted to chime in with an update.
After trying a multitude of times now I feel fairly confident in saying that the problem for me is the game pad causing the issue.
Without exception, every time I have tried to launch Skyrim with the game pad already turned on (wireless Xbox one gamepad) the direct vr scan will NOT work. It will either crash, fail, or succeed in the scan but still fail to work.
If I launch the game with the gamepad off, navigate with the mouse until loaded into the actual game, do the scan, THEN turn on my gamepad after the scan, it will work just fine every time!
Just to reiterate, this is the vanilla Skyrim SE, no mods, no plug-ins, no ini tweaks!
Get into the game first, do the scan, and THEN turn on your gamepad (Xbox one wireless) and it works flawlessly for me every time.
