I’m starting to get a problems where Vorpx shuts off the rift audio and either turns my main audio on or shuts it off completely. I am using the use built in audio featurein vorpx. I’ve also tried turning it off and setting the rift as my default audio with no lock. In some GTA i get audio in the menu, but as soon as the game start it is cut off. In skyrim normal edition it just plays it over my sound card and special edition just works.

Fix Found (For Me) : Under In-Game VorpX > Display Settings >
Turn ‘Direct Mode Async Render’ to Off

Testing notes: while trying to figure out the issue I noticed the farther away from the ideal FOV the more the stuttering diminished. (It was gone at Fov 50 and Fov 200)

Time to get back to into Skyrim.

I can confirm the ‘same’ issue.
I built a new machine and skyrim (Original version) was running wonderfully under vorpx for a few days of play. The next day i have Head Tracking stutter and it won’t go away. No new drivers installed (although i can’t account for what Windows 10 does under the hood.) The other game i’ve played in Vorpx So far (GTAV) did not experience the issue. When the headtrack is disabled in skyrim itself but on inside the 3d lounge room it’s smooth as expected … It’s something to do with mouse input + skyrim + vorpx. I did install a 3d Vision mod but it’s been disabled – it’s the only mod I applied and was disabled before beginning vorpx play.

As the OP mentioned the issue is gone at resolutions under 1024×768.

I’ve changed the bMouseAcceleration=0 in skyrimprefs.

    Spec:
Mouse: logitech g600 (the issue remained after unplugging the mouse in-game)
    6 core i7
    windows 10
    16gb ram
    geforce 1070

So I downloaded the normal Skyrim now and it looks amazing!
Is the Special Edition going to be looking like this? It is not as good as the normal skyrim atm.

But thank you for your help!!

Yes, vorpX works with the original Skyrim. I would even suggest that since it works a bit better.

if a game has both 3D modes, you can switch between them on the main page of the vorpX ingame menu. The original Skyrim already defaults to G3D.

Be aware that both 3D modes have pros and cons. While G3D looks more natural and allows positional tracking, Z3D usually is a lot faster. So in demanding games it can be the better choice if you care about a decent frame rate (>45fps), which is quite important unless you have (very) sturdy “vr legs”.

Hello and thank you for your reply,

so my question is how can you enable the G3D in Skyrim?
Could there be a Problem because i use the Skyrim Special Edition?
Does Vorpx work atm just with normal Skyrim?

In contrast to the original Skyrim there is no forward rendering path for shadows anymore in Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4. Deferred shadows like used in these often can’t be 100% fixed unfortunately.

It’s possible to transform and shift them around a bit which can make them look almost right in more important parts of the scene, and in the best case that can be *almost* indescernible from fully correct shadows most of the time, but that will never be as good as shadows that are directly rendered into the scene.

Deferred renderers are a great thing in many ways, but for applying Stereo 3D retroactively they are primarily a major PITA.

If the vorpX profile for a game contains shadow definitions, you can usually switch them off on the image page of the vorpX ingame menu. That is the case for both FO4 and Skyrim SE.

The key to image quality is the resolution that you run a game with, just like with normal monitor gaming.

vorpX’s default suggestion of 1280×1024 is a compromise between quality and performance. 1920×1440 would roughly equal the per pixel densitiy of a native app, resolutions beyond that would be supersampled.

You need to find the right balance between framerate and resolution for your specific PC. For comfortable VR your main concern should be a high enough frame rate (>45fps) when doing this.

In the original Skyrim you can alternetively use the “Internal Resolution Upscale” option in the vorpX ingame menu, which can change the resolution internally.

Do not use the Oculus Debug Tool hack! vorpX already supersamples internally, all you get with that are excessively large render textures, which will result in very little quality gain but will cause performance problems.

Positional tracking (“i cant look at things and around corners”) only works with Geometry 3D, not with the faster Z-Buffer 3D.

For perspective, my $50 for Vorpx has given me over 50 hours of enjoyment with the following games (and I’ve got so many more to go) ….

    Dying Light
    Fallout 4
    GTA V
    Far Cry 3
    7 Days to Die
    Morrowind
    Oblivion
    Skyrim (old and new)
    No Man’s Sky

All these games run mediocre to awesome at a beautiful 1920 x 1440 base resolution, and training has minimized my motion sickness (try standing at a waist-level keyboard and mouse tray …. maybe even walk in place while your character is walking)

Sorry you are having trouble, but as the previous poster has stated, a little tinkering and you can get pennies-per-hour of enjoyment from this product. Give it another chance, and pound the forums with questions about your specific games. We will help you get them running best we can.

The possible resolutions are only limited by your PC’s performance. In most games you probably will see quite severe performance issues with the full per eye res of a 4K display, but technically you can use any resolution you want.

YES that’s what I wanted to hear!
    Tahk you very much !
I have no problem with 10 FPS if I will have a 4K resolution !!
can’t wait to receive the pimax …

are there any chances that the shadows will be corrected somewhere in the future ?
Is it possible to switch of the non stereoscopic shadows (Fallout4/skyrim se) ?

    best regards FR3D

    So hello dear community,

i am new to Vorpx and VR.
I bought a DK 2 and tried to set up skyrim now for almost the whole week..
Maybe i am to dumb but maybe you can help me to reach my goal and help some people that are in my situation..
I started Skyrim with Vorpx everything worked fine i got injected…but
It is very unsharp… i adjusted it with the recommended resolutions and when I start Skyrim i get those resolutions i made in an starting message. I also tested some FOV settings 100, 110, 120, 130, etc.. but anyhow it seems to be the same over and over.. then i tried with the oculus debug tool, with the option Pixels per Display (between 1.0 and 2.0) and nothing changed either.. I heard about an Screen adjuster thing in the ingame settings of Vorpx but theres nothing like that to choose…

In the starting message also is the Information ..”just stereo 3d will be missing”.
I have no 3d effect. The only 3d option (next to the ambient screen option) stays always off, i can’t turn it on.
The next issue is headtracking; that i can look around but the head stays at the same location – i cant look at things and around corners.

So these are my Problems and again i’m sorry to ask this often asked questions, but i have searched so many forums and cant get it running..if you guys could be so kind to help..

    Thank you

If the cursor position doesn’t scale with the UI in a game, I would suggest to use EdgePeek mode for menus, inventory etc. In the last version EdgePeek was modified so that menus always work correctly in EdgePeek mode even if cursor position and scaled HUD/menu don’t fit otherwise.

I would actually suggest this almost always BTW since usually it’s more convenient to use menus while being able to look around the screen instead of having them at a fixed position in front of you.

    I understand,although what I was trying to investigate,goes a little further,in my case.
    explain:
Yesterday, when I used sugested resolution in this thread (for Skyrim),without me expecting anything else,I solved a “problem” in an extra way.It was a surprise.

The improvement is about, that I can now activate legible subtitles in additional quest mods, created by the community, extra to the game content.
Some of these mod(in other countries),are translated into text in my country,by a small group of volunteers, but unlike Skyrim, translations of mod,do not have voices in my native language (logically),but at least allows to enjoy them, although for this specific case, need to activate subtitle for my.

This causes me,to investigate today a “possible similar solution” for Oblivion.
Different to Skyrim,Oblivion was not doubled in voices in my country, only translated in texts in the year 2006.
This forces me,to make a much, much more intensive use of interface than most players of other English speaking countries, not only to check inventory or some menu, also to read dialogues and subtitles continuously.

Surprised by the results of yesterday with Skyrim,I am trying to find some solution, through configuration, mod, mixed,no matter … to find a way to improve this.
Edge Peek mode,is a first great ally for me,but after seeing yesterday the results of skyrim, encouraged me to investigate on this topic, unfortunately,Oblivion seems to have a somewhat different system UI and not all default window modes.

Edge peek mode, failed to solve problem on this occasion, interface in this resolutions, caused an error not visible text in dialogs in windows mode,(inside and outside edge peek mode).
It’s a shame, because everything was almost perfectly rescaled automatically.
I will have to investigate a little more.

We have hundreds of games on the market, but Elders Scrolls, they manage to steal my dream, when it comes to using them in the best possible way in Cv1.
Sorry for huge text and my English,I recognize it is unbearable. :)

Last week I ordered a Pimax.

It has a native resolution of 3840×2160 pixel.

what do you think – what will be the highest possible resolution for vorpx.

1920 x 2160 will be the max. theoretical resolution per eye.

Is it possible the adjust all thinkable resolutions within the
fallout 4 / skyrim se *.ini file ?

    best regards FR3D
