Topic: UWP Games
in forum General vorpX Discussion
SpoonsParticipantHi is there an easy way to tell if an Xbox game pass game uses the UWP thing as now that The Outer Worlds is on there which doesn’t have it, without downloading games to try, are there others on there if so maybe a list of ones which could be a possible VorpX contender?
Thanks.

jjthecomputerbagParticipantHi ralf, im trying to run outerworlds in geometry setting mode for fullvr setting. It appears vr through one eye, but not the other. also the game is distorted and appears to be missing textures. Is this happening to most people or is it something specific my system?

jjthecomputerbagParticipantDoes the outerworlds update give full control of directvr scan? I’m only getting it to scan for headtracking.

RalfKeymasterI’m relatively certain that Gears 4 is an UWP (Universal Windows Platform) application. UWP was introduced together with the Windows Store and differs in various ways from from traditional (‘Win32’) Windows applications. Among other things these applications are protected against hooking into them.
Until not too long ago every app available from the Windows Store had to be an UWP app. Recently MS has eased that a bit, hence now traditional Win32 apps like the Outer Worlds are also availabe via the Windows Store (or Game Pass), but I’m almost 100% certain that Gears 4, coming from Microsoft directly, is an UWP app and thus can’t be hooked without some serious hacking.

TheBaltParticipantAny idea why Vorpx won’t hook to Gears 4? I’ve tried other Unreal Engine profiles, but nothing. Not hooking. FYI Using Xbox game pass version
Im not sure if this is the same problem we were having with Outer Worlds not hooking recently, some of us used this method in this thread to get it to hook. Might be able to do something similar for Gears, honestly dont know for sure though.

pieterlouisParticipantSince the “Outer Worlds” official profile G3D has not been working on my end. Using a Samsung Odyssey+. z3d is working, but G3D not. I’m seeing the sky in one eye and dark shadowy images in the left eye. I restarted the game after adjusting the 3d effect to G3d, but the issue persisted. Restarted the game 3 consequently but no dice. Any advice?

TheBaltParticipantThanks! That is definietely the culprit. Since I have the Windows Store version I had to guess the Epic store .exe name, unfortunately I guessed slightly wrong (‘IndianaEpicStore’ instead of ‘IndianaEpicGameStore’). I’ll update the profile.
19.3.0 with the updated profile will be made available again once I figured out something in regard to RDR2 launcher problem.
Hey Ralf thanks for getting the new update out! Outer worlds looks great even tho I am having issues with directvr not scanning and working – it’s fine tho, I can configure those settings no problem
The issue I am running into is controller support – I have just spent like 45 minutes trying to make the Xbox one controller work with headtrscking, it will work for a few moments if you “move” in the game, but once I touch the right stick, it basically “turns off” headtracking no matter what settings I try.
I just wanted to know if you had an idea of what setting I should be looking at – but ya, I have tried everything I know in vorpx game menu to get the controller to just work with right stick for look + headtracking being on and the right stick just seems to override the headtracking once I touch it and then effectively turns headtracking “off” until I move, stand still and don’t touch it, then headtracking resumes. The two are not working in concert, the right stick movement basically “kills” the headtracking.
Thanks for you time and the profile! HUD adjustments seem great and it looks great!
Thank you for your time and work for us!
Did you end up getting the head tracking to work? That’s my exact problem with the controller
unfortunately, no.. not sure what to do with it exactly to make it work yet. are you on xbox game pass version as well? might be something to do with that, Ralf has the way of making it work, since hundreds of games do, so im thinking its an xbox console companion/gamepass thing; if youre on gamepass as well. not sure if this is fixable if its xbox console companion doing something to the controls :\

jjthecomputerbagParticipantHi Ralf,
Forgive me if I’m posting this in the wrong section. I recently bought vorpx in order to play theouterworlds on vr. Frankly, I’m not very happy with my purchase. I believe that I may be doing something wrong as well, so my opinion can easily change. I have a couple of problems that I hope can be resolved.
1. It seems like this is not really VR. It appears as if a big screen is placed in front of my screen and I am given head tracking. I do not feel like I am actually inside of the environment. Also The gun looks very 2d. I am in full VR mode.
2. This is similar to number 1. Around the big screen that is placed in front of me, there is a black border. This takes away from immersion a lot.
3. My hud is really off scale. I attempted to follow your directions above, but I was not successful. I have an AMD video card. In the link above you posted that AMD can only go up to 1440×1080 or 1024×1080. Are these resolutions 16:9? I also attempted to disable automatic settings like you suggested, but I was not able to find it in the VR Settings category of the vorpx menu.
Forgive my ignorance on these matters, i’m pretty new to VR modding. Can you please offer some assistance.
Here are my specs
ryzen 5 2600
rx580
16gb ram

hemingwaysghostParticipantAny graphics card settings that should be turned off or other suggestions for improving performance with the Outer Worlds? FPS is pretty low even with in game settings on medium, low shadows and low resolution. It did seem to run better last night though.

buckjohnstonParticipantJust some feedback out the outer worlds. The FOV seems really off, like zoomed in too far. Also Geometry 3D mode only works in one eye (the left one) for me. DirectVR scan was successful but it doesn’t look right. (in z buffer 3d)
I’ll try immersive screen mode now.

buckjohnstonParticipantHey Ralf, I have the windows store version of the outer worlds and it’s not hooking. The game starts and I see the main menu but I only see the SteamVR home environment in the index. Any ideas?
Edit2: Nevermind, I rebooted and it works now.

JESUSTAYSParticipantI thank you Ralph for meeting so many requests.I put in a request for a refund for the outer worlds.Only bought it because of your vr support anyway.Way to much to spend.Playing voyager elite and gta5 and that is enough for now.
