Oh wait… Is Gone Home suppose to have DirectVR? Because there’s no DirectVR option in the VorpX menu. If that’s the case, then I’m having the same issue as a year ago. Where some DirectVR games don’t have the DirectVR option.

Nothing out of the ordinary to recommend in regard to resolutions. As always 4:3 resolutions are better than widescreen in Full VR mode. Apart from that the procedure described in the “1-2-3 Setup Guide” of the vorpX help is a good way to get games without DirectVR FOV working quickly.

Even easier in such cases is switching the “Play Style” option to the recently introduced “Immersive Screen Mode” as recommended above.

For Gone Home the DirectVR settings optimizer can also utilize custom resolutions IIRC. Check the “Custom Resolutions” section in the help for details on that.

Just in case: if you can’t add the custom resolutions in the nVidia control panel or have any other resolution related issue, please first and foremost make sure to use a regular monitor, not a TV. nVidia blocks custom resolutions on some (most?) TVs.

If your vorpX install is somewhat older, it also makes sense to reset the profile database from time to time to utilize potentially improved default profile settings that might get changed with newer versions. You can reset the profile database in the config app (trouble shooting page).

    Thanks for the reply.

Can you recommend a screen resolution and ratio for Gone Home and Slender? Maybe that’s my problem.

As for Black Mesa, it’s crashing at startup. I’ll try disabling Windows defender and see if that does it.

Oh, and is there an updated list of DirectVR games? Or is list in the link Nelson up to date?

None of these is broken, so nothing to fix.

IIRC there is no automatic FOV for Gone Home or Slenderman and as far as I’m aware no way to change it, you will either have to use Image Zoom to compensate or play in Immersive Screen Mode.

Not sure what your issue is with Black Mesa might be. Like all Source 2 engine games it has full DirectVR scanning support. FOV and both rotational and positional tracking are covered.

    Hello, new vorpx user here,

I am trying to play Oblivion with mouse and keyboard(tried with 360 game pad but it’s a mess since oblivion wasn’t coded to use gamepads). I am using oculus go with ALVR. I have a few problems :

    – the mouse wheel doesn’t work inside game menus to scroll through inventory when vorpx is active. If I launch the game without vorpx, wheel is working fine.

    – every time I start oblivion with vorpx, it seems I have to redo a directVr scan, is that normal ? The fov and other things are reset.

    – every time I use the ingame vorpx menu with DEL and when I exit the menu, the game controls are messed up. I have to alt-tab out of the game then alt-tab back to it. For example, the character is moving backwards without pressing any key, or the character is casting spells until mana is emptied, or moving forward is extremely slow, etc..

    – I would like to activate antialiasing, but oblivion asks me to restart the game. But when I restart, I have to redo a directVR scan, which disables antialiasing. So I am stuck with antialiasing disabled..

Anyone knows any solution to these problems ? I am not sure which problems might come from ALVR or VorpX.

    Thanks in advance !

The message about running the DirectVR scan (press ALT+L after entering the game world) that appears in the headset a few seconds after launching the game.

Once that scan is done successfully the FOV is perfectly right. Just make sure to enter the actual game before running the memory scan, it does not work while you are in the menu.

Make sure to follow the instructions that appear when you start the game and run the DirectVR scan after entering the actual game world (ALT+L or from the vorpX menu).

After a successful scan the FOV is perfectly adjusted for your headset and there is no need to do anything manually.

The game has been removed from the supported games list since Stereo 3D had to be disabled after a large NMS update some time ago. Unfortunately it now uses newer OpenGL features that are not covered by vorpX.

Head tracking and DirectVR FOV are still functional though, so the game is playable in full VR mode without much configuration. Works quite well provided you can live without stereo 3D, which is why the profile is still available despite the game not being officially supported anymore.

when you start a “vorpx supported” game, then when you press DEL (default key) inside a game, a vorpx window appears, there you can cycle through a few pages,on one of of those pages, there a button called DirectVR (only for DirectVR supported games), it’s a process who takes care for you of things like correct FoV and others important things for VR, you just have to click it (or press alt + L) then wait without moving mouse cursor, let the process gets the job done for you then you’ll be good to go.

since some updates, vorpx also changes by default (for supported games but not all) ingame settings, like resolution, shadows quality, lightning quality etc) for a smoother experience, usually when that happens you have to restart the game for the new settings work, and of course that auto change can be set to OFF if you prefer change the ingames graphics yourself.

Thanks steph, but the point of my post was to try and get across how pointless the help content and essential tips are to a new user. I don’t understand the words used or what they mean. For example from the help overview
“If available for a game, let vorpX’s DirectVR set the FOV, which might be done either by auto-adjusting game settings or by the DirectVR memory scanner. ”

I have no idea what directvr is??? There needs to be a tutorial explaining this from the very start.

I don’t have much time in life for gaming and don’t want to spend hours looking into how vorpx works… if I can’t get it to work within 30 mins then I won’t bother.

One other thing: please check whether you maybe inadvertantly checked the “Never change any game settings” option in the config app.

This option is meant for trouble shooting only and should never be checked under normal circumstances. Doing so globally disables most DirectVR functionality.

Looks like the Arma 3 devs recently changed the player profile path for whatever reason so that vorpX can’t find the profiles anymore. Apparently they are now under “My Documents\Arma 3 – Other Profiles” instead of “My Documents\Arma 3”.

I will adjust the DirectVR helper for the next vorpX version. Until then please use the linked calculator to change the config file manually: http://hia3.com/tools/armafovcalculator-en

Just to clarify the issue a bit: by changing game settings in the game itself (rather than the Vorpx menu) I can get something close to a good implementation. So it’s basically like Vorpx pre-DirectVR. In a game like Arma with little ability to specify custom aspect ratios though, it’s impossible to get a decent experience without DirectVR being able to change the FOV, aspect ratio and resolution.

To give a bit of background: I’m on WMR, everything worked perfectly back in April, games are split over several drives but that should be fine, the only possible setting I could have changed in the time since (apart from updating the software) is a profile restore of Arma but deleting everything and staring again (as well as factory reset) should have resolved any issues caused by doing that. No overlays, no antivirus issues, technically proficient and able to follow basic troubleshooting advice (for the most part!)… but nothing seems to be working here.

Been using Vorpx for a while with no issues. DirectVR worked incredibly well for the games I play (mainly Arma) but after a couple of months off, I updated to the latest version and for some reason Vorpx no longer changes resolution, FOV etc, even after restart. Have tried running as admin, also tried deleting and reinstalling. No joy so far. Essentially I end up with the wrong FOV no matter what I try in-game. I’ve also tried playing about with resolutions and aspect ratios. For whatever reason though Vorpx is no longer able to change game settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
