Will Skyrim SE work with vorpX, since both normal Skyrim and Fallout 4 are supported? Would I use the Fallout 4 settings, since they share the same engine?
Lawnmower Man…”That’s what has me wondering if one was better than the other for VorpX. Maybe you are right stephx and it is only the clock speed that would matter.”
When I got my Titan XP (original version) I spent a ton of time with the benchmark/monitoring programs watching GPU/CPU usage in both VR and flatscreen gaming. I was trying to determine what to move up to for CPU from my 4790k.
Fallout 4 uses all the cores/threads in descending order of utlization.
Same for Skyrim SE
Skyrim classic uses the first 2 cores heavily and the next two marginally.
Eventually, core count will matter more than clock speed but right now, Lower core/High clock (an I7 4 core/8 thread) will still beat a multicore monster chip. It’s all in the game’s coding and they are just starting to code for efficient multicore use.
Right now, I think a 7700K is still the best bet. It will be at least 2 years IMO, now that Threadripper/I9 chips are a thing, before the software is able/coded to fully use all that resource. By that time, there will be newer/better CPUs on the market so I think that the 7700K is the best bet for an upgrade ‘today’ in a gaming focused machine.
In Skyrim/Fallout 4
Is this the Classic Skyrim or SSE (the Special Edition)?
I stay locked at 45fps with no issues at all
Is this with Geometry or with another 3D mode set in VorpX?
I have decided to upgrade from my current i7-4790 @ 3.60 GHz to a CPU that is the best possible to run Oldrim with VorpX but I’m now completely lost.
I have been asking around and it seems i7 – 4790K @ 4GHz is considered “the best” CPU to run Oldrim flat. But I get the feeling when people say “the best” they also consider the price as a factor and are willing to ignore small performance improvements if the price difference is too big.
Added:
I went from a 4790k to a 7700k both overclocked to 4.8
How do you overclock to 4.8? From what I read people have problems reaching 4.5.
In Skyrim/Fallout 4 with a lot of mods and 1.4 supersampling/1920×1440, I probably gained 10FPS to my minimum framerate in the worst of areas. Enough to keep me at or very near 45fps most of the time. However, the overall increase in the smoothness of play was the really important thing. Being able to shuffle the textures in and out and thus process the draw call load faster makes all the difference when framerate drops under 45. It stays smoother/less stuttery for a longer time.
There are a few other factors to consider. Steam VR has had several updates that have made great strides in smoothing things out as well as has VorpX itself with the updates. But when looking solely at the 7700k and ram upgrade, it is a very noticeable impact on gameplay and certainly worth the cash.
When playing at the stock VorpX resolution/2x supersampling and that 100+ mod load (heavy graphics/texture/weather) I stay locked at 45fps with no issues at all… and that was impossible before with that degree of modding.
Hey acb5544,
I know you made this thread over two years ago, but I was wondering…
I’m trying to get Fallout 3 with FOSE to hook, but it will either:
A.Ignore the game entirely.
B.Give me the “failed to hook” error.
This is a clean install without an ENB, but has some mods that require the script extender. How did you get vorpx to run fallout 3 with the script extender as well?
Thanks
@ralph
pls can u explain why the main monitor is just a black screen showing the vorpx logo on the bottom. This is when i play skyrim on vorpx.
(setting windowed mode in launcher 1020X740) ingame setting 2xxx X 3xxx 4k skyrimprefs.ini
When i play fallout4 the main monitor shows the game with the vorpx logo on the bottom. (setting windowed mode in launcher 1020X740) ingame setting 2XXX 3XXX 4K falloutprefs.ini
Hi i just want to share if ur pip boy in FO4 is up side down due to some mod changes or even ini. changes..here…
open console enter ” refreshini ”
close console
open pip boy
close pip boy
open console enter”fov 100″
pip boy back to normal
(this problem occured after i changed my resolution (other than 1080X1920)and tooks me weeks but today i found a youtube video
I know some already knew about that, but anyways…..
Fallout 3 isn’t made to run at 90. The engine isn’t designed for those speeds. The performance fps wise between FO3 and GTA V can’t be set side by side, they’re not built the same at all. Gta can and should be able to use almost all your systems power but fo3 is not. 45-60 is unfortunatly all that Fo3 can take engine wise. Gta v is much newer and built with modern hardware in mind so it should be able to have better graphics and performance when set next to a game like fallout 3. Not sure how to get your gta v fps higher but 45-60 with FO3 is normal.
I’m using vorpX with my HTC Vive, and let me just say, I love this program.
That being said, I’m running into a small issue. My mouse cursor refuses to show up after launching a game into the Main Menu. The cursor is obviously still there, as I can navigate the menus via guessing where the mouse is, using head tracking to assist. Once in-game the program works flawlessly, and in game cursors will appear.
Titles I have run into the issue with:
Fallout 4 (Cursor shows up in game, but not when in the Main Menu)
Ark: Survival Evolved
ArmA 3
Slime Rancher
After running into this issue on every non-VR supported game I’ve tried so far, I’m assuming this is an issue across all titles. The cursor only refuses to show up inside the game window. Alt-Tab to desktop will make the cursor appear, and the cursor will appear inside the small SteamVR window.
@Ralph as soon as i enable direct vr in FO4 and want to aim a target the screens starts to flicker like trying to switch to a certain zoom its almost impossible to im a target though. If direct vr is disabled all is fine and aiming is possible without flickering..
whats that?
Yes, as soon as the effect in the enb gui is enabled the image looks flat. I found out changing the occlusion settings will change that. I am still tweaking setup , since i fallout 4 enb works fine, even not using the injector version ( not avalable for FO4) enb works fine.
After quite a bit of testing I can confirm that Touch only shows up for me in DX11 games.
There is a section in the log when running a DX11 game:
`INF: Touch Controller Manager: New controller found. Index: 0
INF: Touch Controller Manager: New controller found. Index: 1
INF: Touch Controller Manager: Initialized
For DX9 games this does not appear in the log and no Touch controllers shown in game.
Incidentally even in the DX11 games (I.e. Fallout 4) none of the buttons do anything for me. There is also no Touch related menu items in the DEL Vorpx menu

I was able to set up my settings and play the game in Direct VR and play for several hours without any problems. I turned on my PC earlier today and tried starting Skyrim only to have it crash right after the Bethesda logo. Thought it was just a load issue so i tried again, again, and again with no success. Have already verified Integrity of Game Files and even reinstalled Skyrim. Also did a Factory Reset of VorpX.
To check if the issue was with Skyrim or VorpX i started up both Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3, both work fine without any problems.
Ive beeen looking around for a few hours now and havent found a solution that works for me. Anyone have any ideas or know why its crashing?
