Have you enabled ‘Expert Settings’ in the VorpX configuration?

Then open up Skyrim and press the delete key to get the VorpX Settings main page, Focal Offset is at the bottom

    Separation (3d Strength)
    3D FOV Enhancement
    Camera Height Modifier
    Focal Offset

For me it made a huge difference.

So I tried running Skyrim with the DK2 and the new version of vorpX yesterday, and I had mixed success. For the record, without the Rift I can run the game at a constant 60 fps with all graphics settings at max and vsync enabled, and no stuttering. When I use vorpX, the game becomes a stuttering mess even at the lowest graphics settings possible.

This seems related to the head tracking, which jumps all over the place. If I look down, the view will jerk around a little and then jump as far down as your view can go. It’s the same thing if I look up, only I’m suddenly looking at the sky. Turning in any direction or moving at all makes the view skip and jump, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Even trying to stay still, the camera will make small jumps and stutters.

Apart from the typical DK2 judder that appears in some Rift demos, head tracking works perfectly for me in everything but Skyrim right now.

What’s going on here? What can I do to fix this problem? My specs are below:

    Intel i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60 GHz (8 CPUs)
    32 GB RAM
    Geforce GTX 780 w/ 3 GB RAM
    Windows 8.1

Sometimes my head tracking doesn’t work in Skyrim but restarting VorpX and Skyrim gets it working again. It does seem like in game head movement is very subtle, I would like to increase it a bit so it matches my real head movement.

I have used these settings to get Skyrim looking nearly perfect in terms of 3d and scale, from another forum:

…first enable the advanced settings (there is a check box in the VorpX configuration thing) press delete when you are in game and adjust the stereo separation and the focal offset.

At the moment for Skyrim I am using
    stereo separation: 1.25
    focal offset: 1.00
    3d fov enhancement: 0.50
And I set my field of view to 100 degrees using instructions from here http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2227329

DK2 turned on and in extended mode.
    VorpX in the Tray.
“Do not use an Oculus profile” in Oculus profile.
Tried with the Rift in secondary display with “Show only on DK2”, and in primary display with “Use system setting” (display on the DK2 but in 2D without eyes separation ^^).
    Fresh install off Skyrim.
    Desactived the Steam overlay.
Tried the restoration and the factory reset in trouble shouting.

    Nothing work ;)

Portrait is not correct in Windows 8. Set the Rift to Landscape flipped, otherwise the image will be displayed too small and/or offset. That is an error in the vorpX documentation. Sorry for the confusion.

Also please make sure to follow the advice about setting the FOV to 120. This extremely important to get a natural looking image. What exactly you have to is described in the first vorpX window that opens when you start Skyrim.

Everything is zoomed in – 3D / Scale messed up. FOV zooms it out a bit but its not very 3D. Also head tracking is reversed. Up is down and down is up.

Windows 8.1 here… the usual Portrait is working for me. The sticky suggesting landscape flipped just doesn’t work at all.

Maybe you shouldn’t be charging £30 until its in a better state.

This screenshot is not from vorpX. You probably have a d3d9.dll in your Skyrim folder. Please remove it, it doesn’t belong there per default.

There should never be a d3d9.dll in any game directory since this causes a conflict with vorpX.

Ralf would know better, but as to your second question I think you have to turn off the 360 controller in Skyrim’s menu for the head tracking to work properly. I was asking about disabling the vorpX emulation so that I could try and use a third party app (Xpadder) to map the controls.

    Hi Ralf,

Really excited DK2 support is available in Alpha – fascinating to see how the software progresses.

I hope these aren’t stupid questions – if they are still bugs, am happy to just see how they get ironed out over coming weeks.

    1) When using either keyboard / mouse or an xbox controller with the DK2 and Skyrim, the controls behave quite strangely. Half the time they will carry out their emulated behaviors, and half the time they will bump me on to my windows desktop. I have refrained from rebinding, because I’m anticipating that these might just be alpha teething problems, and if so I guess I’m happy to just wait until these are resolved.

    2) When I try to disable the vorpx gamepad controls in the del menu, and give it back to skyrim to control all headtracking shuts down.

    Any thoughts?

Well I have an issue with the headtracking in Skyrim. I can look up/down + left/right but when I tilt my head the vision does not.
