Wow..been hyping for this version for a while…great stuff, thanks Ralf
adisplinterParticipantSounds good Ralf, keep up the good work, VorpX is fantastic, just finished Outlast 2, no problems, great experience.
adisplinterParticipantToo late, already played it native in DK2 and using vorpX for CV1. But this game has great replay potential so I don’t see why not playing it for a third time using this native mod, just for geometry 3D, scale and that amazing depth ;)
Anyway vorpX still remains a much needed entity in the VR world and Ralf’s work is priceless.
adisplinterParticipantMade a very positive review back in 2015 in DK2’s age: https://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/an-honest-vorpx-review/
It only got better ever since, Ralf is our savior.adisplinterParticipant@dellrifter22
Holly shit mate, thanks a lot, had no idea, no info/news about this popped up on my usual VR hanging places on the web, and I was already playing other games in VorpX, I gave up on Dying Light after searching for more than one year. You made my day man, and especially before the weekend, guess I’ll let the team go home from work earlier today ;) I still hope Ralf will release a working profile to fix the height issue from VorpX’s settings…anyway, that was also the case back in 2015 when it first came out for DK2.
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post Reddit links here, an admin can remove this last entry from my post if it’s not allowed: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/6i7hpg/playing_dying_light_on_cv1_as_a_dwarf/
adisplinterParticipantI think you are playing it in cinema mode, do you find yourself in a big room, sitting on a couch with a controller in your hands, playing on a big screen TV ? If so, you need to turn off Virtual Cinema Mode and enable Normal or Adaptive Z-buffer from 3D Reconstruction menu.
Besides that, in order to get native like feeling in VorpX games and objects to appear at normal size/scale, you need to increase the FOV manually from games menus (if available), config or ini files or use a 3-rd party tool, designed for that game. Also display resolution is key. I can confirm that if u set almost any game properly in Vorpx (some take more time, some take less than 5 minutes) they will be displayed like a VR native game or very close. For details of how to set resolution and FOV properly please read this:
As for performance, I’m not sure how u set Half Life 2, to get terrible performance on GTX 1080. I played Half Life 2 + ep 1 and 2 at a constant 90 fps on a GTX 1070 and i7 CPU. Same goes for Alien Isolation where the performance wasn’t always 90, but now, with Oculus’ Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) which requires only 45 fps I’m sure it will run just fine.
adisplinterParticipantNo mate, it’s my fault, I should have specified…it’s the only one from that top that I only played on DK2, back in 2015, when it was supported natively for old Oculus runtime 0.5 or 0.6. But I put it there because I believe Ralf will eventually figure out a way of playing it on CV1 (hopefully) ;) I think Dying Light is now the most anticipated game for VorpX supported games :)
adisplinterParticipantI’m gonna make it a top 10 ;)
1. Alien Isolation
2. Dead Space 1-3
3. Dying Light
4. Stalker COP Misery Mod
5. Metro 2033 and Last Light
6. Half Life 2
7. Outlast
8. Fallout: New Vegas
9. Battlefield 3-4
10. The Witcher 3 (only a part on cinema mode)Unplayed, potentialy top 5: Mass Effect 1-3, Skyrim SE, Splinter Cell 3, GTA 5, Dishonored, Bioshock, Portal 1-2
adisplinterParticipantI understand, so your problems were caused directly by the 382.05 driver…that’s good to know Michelangel0, thanks for the info!
adisplinterParticipantMy problem was not performance. I was getting huge stutters…seconds in duration, then total freeze, then blue screen of death. I uninstalled and reinstalled nvidia drivers (including 378.92 and then 376.33), Oculus software, Vorpx and still the issue was occurring.
Just after uninstalling Avast Antivirus, the problem completely disappeared and I was using 382.05 drivers with great performance and visual quality in Vorpx, I’m not sure what’s causing the green tones for you, but 382.05 performs very well for me.
adisplinterParticipantYes I am, but I always did, to monitor the framerate and other sensors and in my case it was not MSI afterburner’s fault. The issue occured even with MSI afterburner, Geforce Experience and Steam overlays disabled or closed. Now they are all enabled and working just fine, like they always did, with VorpX. Only after uninstalling Avast Antivirus did I get rid of the problem.
adisplinterParticipantI checked red, the Processor Power Management was fine…100% max and 5 % for min.
I managed to completely resolve the problem. Firstly I used my Microsoft Live account to access Xbox settings and disable Game DVR and then I completely uninstalled Avast Antivirus. I’m not sure which one of these was creating the issue for me but I’m almost certain that it was Avast because I never disabled Game DVR and the worst it can do is impact performance, not create stutter/freezes/BSOD. And another thing that I noticed after uninstalling Avast was that I didn’t had to launch the games twice like before…even when they were working ok, at first launch I was receiving a Steam error and after a second launch it worked…well not anymore, now it works from the first launch and they all work beautiful now through VorpX.
Ralf told me to remove the antivirus but I thought that disabling it will suffice…I guess I was wrong…so thanks Ralf for saving my ass again ;) Obviously the Creators update triggered the issue but Avast was the culprit for this situation.
VorpX supported games are back on the menu ;) RIP Avast
adisplinterParticipantOk red, thank you for the quick response, I will take a look when I get home from work and let you know.
adisplinterParticipantI tried everything…reinstalled current nVidia driver, then older driver which I know worked before the update(using DDU)…every time it worked well only once. But if I exit the game and launch it again or other games in VorpX, the issue is back, always ending with freeze/BSOD. I even reverted to the old Windows installation with older driver that worked fine in VorpX before Creators update …the same…only works once, then the issue starts reproducing. I disabled Avast antivirus and every Windows start-up software product…same thing.
I don’t know what else to do, maybe check if Game DVR is enabled or try a restore point, but I think I’m proper fukd with VorpX games without a Windows reinstall minus this Creators crap…if anyone has any suggestion to solve this…I thank you in advance.
adisplinterParticipantI already have the latest version of VorpX installed (17.2.1) and latest nVidia driver for GTX 1070 (382.05). As I said above, I disabled the security product (Avast Antivirus), but it never caused me such problems before this damn Creators update, all VorpX supported titles worked perfect.
I will follow your recommendation and reinstall the graphics drivers or maybe an older version which I know worked a week ago when I last played a VorpX game without issues. Thank you for the quick response Ralf and keep up the good work! I will post here if I find a solution for anyone who might encounter this issue in the future.
