Thanks for the tip. I’m glad we can help each other out. It would be nice if there was a keyboard shortcut to pause/resume the watcher.

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for responding. I get this error with Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, Mirror’s Edge and Alien Isolation. I got the same missing dll error as well. The workaround isn’t that great because most of the time I’m not quick enough to resume the watcher in time for it to properly hook. The Steam games that still work are Skyrim, The Forest, Borderlands 2 and Fallout 4. Thanks for the info about the log. I’ll let you know if I figure anything out.

I found a workaround, although I have no idea why I have to do this now and never had to do it before. I need to pause the vorpX watcher while I launch the game and then resume it.

Ralf: Do you have any idea why all of a sudden I need to pause the watcher for the game to work? Where do I find the vorpX log?

    Thanks,

For those of you having problems with the Direct VR scan either failing, or in my case passing but still not tracking correctly, try this: Use the Alternate Start mod to create a new game and save immediately. Then load that game each time to do your Direct VR scan and then load your latest save game. It always works perfectly on the first try when I perform the Direct VR scan in a clean save first.

Ah, that was it! I’m using external headphones since my Rift seems to have developed wiring issues on the right side. Since that option wasn’t checked in the VorpX config, the software was probably trying to reset the audio back to the Rift device. I’m not sure why it just started happening yesterday, but unchecking that option did the trick! Thanks, Ralf!

I’m using Immersive First Person View 3.4 with Direct VR on the original Skyrim and it seems to be working fine. I start with VorpX in gamepad full override mode, perform the Direct VR scan then switch to gamepad off. Pressing in the right thumbstick switches between 1st and 3rd perspective. I can look around normally in 1st person only, but that’s the only view I use. I just posted some useful links to the mods that enhance the Skyrim VR experience in the Game Hints and Settings section here.

Here are a few more great mods for better VR support:

Immersive First Person – This is the best first person mod I’ve used in VR. No more dealing with big hands. Let me know if you find something better.

SkyUI – Another essential mod when running Skyrim in VR. This mod gives the original Skyrim UI a complete makeover and by editing the skyrim.ini file, you can center the item menu for less eye strain. Check out the link to the Oculus forum below for discussion about editing the skyrim.ini file. It works great!

I don’t have any problems with upscaling to 2.0 with a resolution of 1280×1024, but I see the same effect as you with the screen shifted to the upper left and glitched bars on the right and bottom when I switch to any of the Z-Buffer modes. I haven’t figured out how to remove them yet, so I just stick with Geometry mode, even though I get a better frame rate with Z-Buffer.

Yes. That makes sense. My profile has the gamepad set to full override which is the same as having it off in the game but without having to actually turn it off. Once I run the Direct VR scan, I can then set the gamepad to off so that it is then recognized as a controller in the game. You can try my way and see if it works for you. If it does, please let me know which is easier.

    Thanks,

Why do I have to run the Direct VR scan every time I play the game? Also, I found a bug. You can’t remap the Direct VR scan to a different key. It looks like it’s remapped, but when you go back into the config screen, it’s reset back to ALT-L.

Is it possible to setup a game that doesn’t support Direct VR to have the head tracking feel natural so when you look around the whole world doesn’t move as if your head is locked to your view or is this a feature of Direct VR only? Why do I have to scan every time?

    Thanks,

    Hi Ralf,

The gamepad override is not turned off automatically on a successful scan. I have to manually switch it back off every time I play. What is the scan doing and why is it dependent on the controller setting? How come you have to scan every time and how come it only unlocks the tracking and gives you a natural world view when the gamepad override is set to full when you scan? I’d like to get a better understanding of what the scan is actually doing.

    Thanks,

    Hi HalloMolli,

I just got vorpX yesterday and spent all night getting the original Skyrim working and I’ve finally narrowed it down to these steps:

    One time setup:
    1. Restore factory defaults for Skyrim profile.
    2. Run the Game Settings Optimizer for Skyrim.

    Each time you play:
    1. Start vorpx (not desktop)
    2. Start Skyrim.
    3. Make sure Gamepad override is set to full before you scan.
    4. Scan using ALT-L.
    5. Set Gamepad override to off.

I’m using an Xbox controller. If you use the mouse/keyboard, you may not need to worry about toggling the Gamepad override. I will say that if the Gamepad override is on when you scan, it will lock the world to your head movement which is undesirable and will make you feel sick. When everything is setup correctly, looking around will seem natural and will not be locked to the world view. I hope this makes sense. On the lowest graphic setting, I get about 90 FPS in Geometry mode. It drops to about 45 FPS on the highest setting. I get better performance in Z-Buffer mode, but there are glitched bars on the right and bottom of the view that I can’t seem to remove.

    Hope this helps!
