dellrifter22ParticipantI tried the fov tool tonight. It works wonders for the first person view. It could be great in fullVR if only the context HUD weren’t hiding so far in the corners. For now I may just use maximum zoom cinema to mimic the fullVR view. Here’s a test example:
The tool is easy enough to use, if only it could report and store a number value though.
First exclude the mod exe from vorpX so it doesn’t attempt to hook. Load into the game world, then Alt+tab to desktop and run mod exe. Back in the game,, press F3 to toggle fov mode and increase/decrease with F8/F7.
pressing ~50 increments looked good for me for FullVR around 0.80 zoom, but go as high as you like.
You can reduce headbob for horse riding in the RDR2 Camera settings.
You can toggle a slow walk for first person by setting movement speed to “tap and hold” under the accessibility settings. This will make first person behave much like GTA5, where jog is the default state until you toggle walk with Shift key. Not most ideal, but default won’t let you walk slow at all.
3rd person also looks good in fullVR with fov mod. I’ll likely switch between both, since the 3rd person animations are so good. Can’t beat first person view for best scale and immersion though.
I’ll be messing around with it tomorrow a lot more for sure, I just wanted to share my early findings for anyone looking to dive in this weekend.
Please note that there is always risk in using mods, and you should not attempt to use this for the Online multiplayer. So far, no reports of problems with singleplayer.
dellrifter22ParticipantIt really is cool! Thanks again Ralf.
I’m at work now so can’t test this, but PCGamingWiki lists an fov mod tool that may help first person. (Can’t link on phone, sorry) Vanilla view is very limited, maybe this can help.
Please don’t try this until you have RDR2 already stable with vorpX. I just wanted to post in case Ralf or someone wants to give it a go.
Can’t wait to get off work. Have a good evening all.
dellrifter22ParticipantBoy Howdy!!
Glad you caught a break. Knock on every piece of wood you pass by tomorrow, and God willing, you’ll be back in the saddle.
A couple tips so far:
Game may default to windowed mode every launch. Press Alt+Enter to restore Fullscreen if your mouse pointer feels boxed-in.
Aspect ratio seems to demand your monitors native ratio, otherwise you may get image squish/stretching.
vorpX Alt+C to hide/reveal mouse cursor as desired.
V key cycles 4 camera distances. First-Person, near, far, farthest. I’ve found the secondary 3rd-person camera “far” to be the most comfortable for FOV and model distance. With this I am able to zoom the screen closer and cover more view. I’ve opted to use Cinema mode (background none) zoomed into -0.61 with vertical screen curve enabled to a subtle amount. Only drawback being cinematics may appear a bit close, but you have better control over the screen shape and size.
There’s lots of graphical settings HUD and control settings to experiment with to make it the way you want it.
Try to power through the snowy prologue segment though, since auto saves are few and far between and manual saves don’t seem to unlock until after. You can tweak settings and run benchmarks after settling down at Horseshoe camp.
Ok, back at it…
dellrifter22ParticipantSorry man. I feel ya.
Hope the stars align for ya by the weekend. It’s a miracle PCs and games can ever work at all when you stop and think about it… all the “moving parts” and such.
I’ll leave the fire goin for you back at camp.
dellrifter22ParticipantI still struggle with this, but so far a complete system reboot is solving this for me.
If my headset has gone to sleep or Mixed reality has shutdown I will get stuck in the “Next UP” loop. Sometimes it can occur after closing a successful gaming session. Basically this means I should expect to to a system reboot before each time I want to play. So far this is allowing me to run my HP reverb with steamVR and vorpX.
I always start steamVR manually by the way, before I use vorpX. If you let vorpX open it automatically, you may not even see the “Next Up” splash, but rather just a blank screen instead.
Hopefully it’s a steam issue that gets sorted soon. For now, keep a finger always over that reboot button.
dellrifter22ParticipantOh no dborosev! What error message are you getting? Mine said “Rockstar Games Launcher exited unexpectedly”. Do you get this error? Describe the crash.
Windows 10 update seems to be what fixed mine.
I’m at Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.418)
(Type winver into your windows start button to see version)I also updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest game ready ones just to be sure.
Try signing out of your Rockstar Launcher and back in again. You can also delete the profiles folder for both RDR2 and the Launcher from the folders in \Documents\Rockstar Games… so that they regenerate fresh upon restarting your Launcher and game.
Make sure you get the Launcher issue sorted before you have vorpX running in the task tray. Ralf thinks there might still be some potential launch conflict while vorpX is open, although I’ve not been having problems with it luckily.
The one problem I am having is still the steamvr “Next Up” not loading any game into my WMR HP unless I do a full system reboot first. Fresh boot of Mixed Reality and steamVR seems to be required to solve this for me.
Sorry you are still having troubles getting in man. Now that I am finally in, I can tell you it’s looking pretty nice! I’m particularly impressed by the fidelity in the Reverb at 4k. Since Z3D immersive screen is your go to anyway, I think you’ll feel right at home in this.
A lot of people are having launcher issues and the solutions seem all over the board. I guess it’s a matter of finding the right one that works for you. A bit of a headache I know, but don’t give up all hope.
dellrifter22ParticipantWhich error are you getting Ralf? Rockstar exited… or Red Dead exited? I had to deal the first.
I sent you a mail to support. Curious to know what vorpX issue you found.
dellrifter22ParticipantRead the thread just below this about the recent steam update, see if it applies. So far rebooting my whole PC system a couple times seems to have fixed it.
I do see windows is pending a new update already, hope that won’t break something now.
dellrifter22ParticipantYeah, the launcher has caused a problem for a lot of people, myself included. Mine seems to be working for now though. RDR2 did just get a substantial 2.9 gig update about 30 mins ago, hopefully this will iron out the bug.
FOV for 3rd person looks to be fairly generous on flat monitor which will hopefully translate well for vorpX. 1st person may still be wanting a bit though. It appears the horizontal FOV remains the same across aspect ratios, meaning you can see the same amount of angle with either 16:9 and 4:3, so we might be able to bring the screen in a tad closer using a smaller ratio (4:3).
Keep your horses tied just a bit longer boys. Enjoy that stew and coffee by the fire a little longer. There will be plenty of outlawing to do before long.
dellrifter22ParticipantI imagine the Rockstar Launcher will still be required much the way uplay must load to play Ubisoft games on steam.
In case anyone else has trouble with the launcher, Windows update to 1903 solved my problem. Many people are having early problems with it. For some disabling antivirus/defender works, for others a bios update is needed for some amd setups. But first check that both windows and graphics drivers are up to date.
Hope I’m all set now to jump in the virtual saddle when the time comes. Partners…
dellrifter22ParticipantAfter a second system reboot I have been able to successfully load 4 games past “Next Up” to hmd. Hopefully this is all that was needed.
dellrifter22ParticipantI am now struggling with this as well. I was able to load into ACOdy once on my first attempt with new steam update, but cannot get past “Next Up” with any game I try atm.
I’m also now on HP Reverb (been 2 weeks now), and just tonight finally updated Windows 10 from 1803 to 1903. Unfortunately steam updated right after so I couldn’t test against my former setup.
I’ll try a few more things, but for now stuck like the others.
On the plus side, the 2 hour windows update managed to fix my RDR2, so that is working and ready to go. Now just gotta solve this “Next Up” nonsense.
dellrifter22ParticipantNice!!
Now if I can just get the game to launch without crashing Rockstar’s launcher right after I click play, I’ll be ready for tomorrow. Can’t even boot into game so far :/
Hope everyone else is enjoying it so far though.
dellrifter22ParticipantVery cool Ralf, thanks for attempting this.
I was wondering about this possibility last week while playing alot of AC Odyssey Z3D. Still a good 3D experience for 3rd person. I would be happy to play RDR2 this way.
Count me in ready to test it as soon as it’s ready. I’ve already got RDR2 installed and waiting 😎
Will be great if it does work out, and also be a good headstart for next gen. Thanks again for looking into this.

dellrifter22ParticipantThanks for testing this. I might jump back in to gamepass again.
Wasn’t planning to buy this one full price, so this might get me to try it. Sounds like most people are liking it.
