i love that grid, but using that grid always make me wish we could also hotkey to control the mouse using the same targeting (head movement), aiming.
It would be very useful in some games if you could bind say f13 to “mouse view” or whatever you want to call it then f14 to click, then you could press f13 to switch the cursor to always be where your looking, then combine that with f14 to click and it would allow a quick way to click on things without needing to use mouse emulation on gamepad or an actual mouse to go and click on it.
Dec 31, 2019 at 12:02am in reply to: How does VorpX Desktop Viewer compare to Virtual Desktop/BigScreen? #191428Jey123456ParticipantIn my experience, vorpx desktop viewer is by far the best when it works, altho i often end up with it shutting down / restarting in loop with no error messages or anything to help me figure what is causing problem and at which point i use virtual desktop.
Virtual desktop works alright but you wont get as much fps on the virtual screen nor as good clarity compared to vorpx.
tldr, vorpx desktop viewer is great so long as it work for you, its a bit finicky as for what conflict with it and stuff.
Virtual desktop on the other hand, is lower quality result, but ive yet to see an instance where it didnt work.
Jey123456ParticipantDepending on the game, I do something similar. I like putting it in cinema mode, set the background to black, then make the screen large enough so that it encompasses my entire view. This makes everything look a little too flat, but again, it depends on the game if that’s an issue. It’s kind of a dice roll if the FOV is locked or not and / or if the screen depth option is enough. It’s bizarre how it works, on some games, I can’t imagine going past 2.0 on screen depth, on others, even 5.0 can seem too low.
And yes, offcourse its not for everygame, there are some games where even the current max size feel too big. but thats fine, its why i want it as an option and not just default setting.
Speaking off, when can we get this tweak ? I’ve been impatiently waiting for it
Jey123456ParticipantMarvelous, cant wait to try it out.
OK guys, you won 🙂 . Before we get a lengthy discussion here about less than a pinky finger’s width of a visible bar in immersive screen mode that 99% of you (everyone with a headset that has positional tracking) can easily get rid of themselves in 1 sec., I’ll adjust the minimum distance slightly.
its not so much about the bars that show up, its about the experience. The way i plan on using it, is rendering my game in 8k with a very high fov, then have the immersive screen be 1.5-2times larger than the viewport on my headset, with the game ui shrinked down to be comfortable in the middle. This would it would give me more or less the ability to look around, but without it affecting the cursor position.
Jey123456ParticipantI can’t believe that enabling such an option would be lot of work, considering it seem to just be an arbitrary value set. Even if it came with a warning or requiring manual editing of a file id be fine with it, but its really an option id pay for xD.
Immersive doesnt feel like it has any use when the screen size is limited to basically the same as cinema.
Jey123456Participantleaning back is not an option as i do not have movement tracking, only orientation. with a pimax 8k.
as far as drift goes, at least on my unit it has not been a problem. I only need to recenter every few hours at most.
I perfectly understand it not being viable for every games, and thats fine. But at least, in fortresscraft it would be magical.
Jey123456ParticipantThe benefit drop really quickly once you go above your headset resolution, but it does make a hell of a big difference if you drop too low XD.
Personally i like 200% when combined with game rendering in 2160p, that usually gets me the best readability on my pimax 4k once scaled back down.
Jey123456Participanti am on windows 10. Also found the issue altho it was pure luck. The discord overlay probably received an update and stopped working. I know it was never “supported” but it worked until recently.
Jey123456Participanti guess not…. oh well, i suppose ill have to stick to using virtual desktop for games that just arent supported by the injection ><. its a shame tho since when it does work, vorpx desktop has a much better fps.
Jey123456Participantunfortunately that did not help. I’m pretty confident it was a software update on my pc that caused the issue since it started after i finally let windows update do its thing.
But as for finding out which exact process / service is causing it, i’m at a loss on how to approach it, disabling everything one by one until it work just takes way too much time to do everytime something like this happen.
Theres bound to be some log or debug output that can be used to reduce the possibilities isnt there ?
Jey123456Participantindeed, theres no working profile, altho it does work decently with the desktop viewer. Make sure you set vsync and or an fps limit on it tho or its gonna use all the gpu and vorpx will lag to hell.
Jey123456ParticipantWhile i dont believe the new smoothing movement stuff actually activated for me, even without that my frametime drastically lowered when i switched to the beta and gaming using vorpx became even more enjoyable.
I’m honestly not sure if the smoothing movement feature worked and just did not display as such in my steamvr window or if its other optimisations that happened to affect me but i am happy with the result none the less.
