Hi Ralf. So I bought the game today, but was surprised to find the FOV warped in full VR mode. I tried changing the game resolution (default 1920×1080) but get a crash. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks! My eye sight’s not good enough to read those text messages that pop up.

Thanks Ralf. Just one last question…

I know I’m suppose to change the resolution using the VorpX in-game settings (changing resolution in the game menu freezes the image in the headset). But is there one 4:3 resolution in particular the profile Should be setting it to? to be in a 4:3 ratio, but is there one 4:3 in particular the profile should be setting it to for Full VR mode? I just wanted to check before I teat them all, including the “narrow” ones, to see which looks best in full VR.

    Hey Ralf,

I’m having some trouble with the FOV. What is the ideal resolution for full VR mode? I have wide screen off and Pixil 1:1.

    Thanks!

I figured it out! I just had to change the name of the new downgraded launcher file to match the original name so VorpX would recognize it. Here are the steps…

    1. Complete the downgrade installation described in the YouTube video above.

    2. Go to the game folder and change the name of the original launcher file from gta-sa.exe to gta-saBACKUP.exe.

    4. Then change the name of the new downgraded launcher file from gta_sa.exe to gta-sa.exe.

Also note that in the list of mods and upgrades in the downgraded install window, there’s a mod called SkyGX. This mod may screw up your the graphics when playing in VR. in the messes up the graphics When in VR mode. So either deselect the mod when installing or tweak the mods ini file to disable the features that interfere with VR. The rest should work fine, but I’ll edit this post if u find any issues.

Oh, and don’t forget to download and install your facorite first person mod.

    Hi Ralf,

So I downgraded my steam copy of GTA San Andreas (required for installing the first person mod), added the exe to the steam library, and created a shortcut. Unfortunately opening it through VorpX gets the error message

“injection failed: unable to hook GTA_sa.EXE. Shouldn’t four packs try to close the program if it is still running?”

Is there a fix, or are we forever stuck playing GTA SA in third person?

EDIT: So apparently you can mod the steam version. There are several steps, but hopefully it will work. Here are a couple links to explain how…

Okay, I just ran the steam version of GTA SA and it is gorgeous. Especially at 224×1680 resolution, and the 3D separation and FOV maxed. Everything pops so beautifully, it feels like I’m in a diorama (I’ll upload a profile for anyone interested).

Unfortunately, modding isn’t possible. Unless anyone knows how to force first person without a mod. If so, please let me know.

Ah, yes. I was using the cd version. Rockstar let the license run out on a lot of the music, so the steam version is missing some classic songs. Also, I’m not sure you can mod the steam version. And the game needs a mod for full first person. But I’ll give it a shot and let you know.

Thanks Ralf. If you’re looking into a fix, then I’m willing to risk purchasing it.

Am I the only one, or is everyone using the mod having this issue?

I was going to write the mod author, but he removed his messaging info from his page (too much spam). He said to contact him on reddit, but failed to mention his user name. I’ll just post something on /r/gtavr and see if he replies.

Okay. I just trie both ways. Checking the dont optimize box then srarted the game, and turning it off in game and restarting. Neither fixed the warping when the VR mod is activated. Is there a way to disable the FOV change in the mod?

you thus probably shouldn’t run both at the same time.

Which is weird since the mod requires VorpX to work. Thanks for the tip. I’ll disable the FOV in game and see if it works.

Sorry I wasn’t very clear. I am indeed using the GTA VR mod. When I run VorpX alone, the FOV is perfect. It’s when I activate the mod in game that the FOV distorts. So as @haints is suggesting, if the mod’s FOV tweak is messing up the VorpX FOV tweak, disabling the VorpX FOV may resolve the issue.

Is there a way to disable the VorpX FOV?

I think the VR mod also changes FOV so you might try disabling Vorpx’s FOV to avoid a conflict and see how it looks then.

Where in the in game settings menu do you disable vorpx’s FOV?
