Thanks for the tip for Conan Exiles profile. Z3D seems to work well as intended.

The ghosting you describe is a normal artifact of Z3D unfortunately, as the images being reproduced have to guess how to fill in the gaps by mimicking the pixels around them. It’s faking 3D from flat image information.

This halo effect is only very noticeable for things very close to you, but otherwise it works quite well to give the world depth. You can decrease the focal distance setting as well as the weighting to minimize this effect, until you find a balance between 3D strength and acceptable halo. Some games fare better than others in this regard.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider also has native Side by Side 3D support if you’d rather play it in real G3D (without the ghost halos). There are a couple profiles on the cloud you can try. See here.

I’ve uploaded my first run profile for Shadow of the Tomb Raider for SBS G3D cinema. It’s configured for my Pimax4k with the following settings:

    – set to dx11, use keyboard to navigate menus
    – use a 4:3 resolution (1600×1200, 3200×2400)
    – set “Side by Side” stereoscopic mode in game and use:
Separation: 4 arrow ticks right from 0
Popout: 7 arrow ticks right from 0
(these are my preferred for best 3D world pop, though scale is a bit low)

    * Some particle and fog effects may look slightly strange, disable “volumetric lighting” if desired.

    * Since this was tuned for Pimax4k, Rift users may need to adjust screen distance a few notches for better FOV, and/or tone down the saturation/brightness/sharpness some.

While it looks quite good in SBS, it can be performance heavy and suffer from aliasing, as compared to running Z3D with Conan Exiles profile. Some may prefer to play it Z3D instead, and for this I might recommend the forthcoming official profile to allow both SBS and Z3D options if possible.

Many 3rd person games such as Assassins Creed can look quite good in Z3D, and I believe Tomb Raider might as well.

Anyhow, off to play now. Enjoy!

    hello,

using conan exile official vorpx profile, game works in Z3D.

btw, anyone knows how to get rid of the ghosting around characters when using Z3D ? it’s linked with near/far Z3D strenght, basically when set at minimum there is no ghosting, but when you set it higher there is ghosting, i have this ghosting in every Z3D games even the supported one, and it’s kinda distracting, that’s my only complaint, else it’s amazing !

    hello,

using conan exile (no battleEye) profile, DQ 11 works in G3D.

using conarium profile, DQ11 works in Z3D.

for performance reason i use the latter and i must say this is amazing.
i use cinematic mode with head tracking @2.00 strenght, 0.7 screen distance along with black surrounding (no decor at all surrouding game screen).

and while using Z3D you can also tweak ini file to make the game looks better (bigger draw distance, better shadows etc) look that up on steam.

now if only someone smart could find a way to tweak FoV that would be awesome.

just give it a try if you have the game and vorpx, it’s really worth it.

Went back from SteamVR beta to normal, no change.

Error codes / warnings in log:

    ERR: OpenVRDevice: OpenVR init exception.
    WRN: Loading pre 17.3.0 G3D settings (0.0.0)
WRN: D3D11 Base: No DeviceContext created, not hooking device
WRN: D3D11 Base: Device creation failed: S_FALSE: 1

Like I said, Conan Exiles works, so maybe the problem is in the Rise of the Tomb Raider game itself?

Same here, can’t get Rise of the Tomb Raider (Set to DX11)to start. Error code is always “VorpX could not initialize your headset since SteamVR crashed when during the init.” even if I start the game from VorpX Desktop which is ALREADY USING the headset. Conan Exiles for example starts up fine.

The cute little N64-like game is 75% off on Steam, so I finally decided to pull the trigger. However, I couldn’t get it to work properly with VorpX.

The game uses Unreal Engine 4, so I used this LIST to check which profile I could use. Conan Exiles, Conarium, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and What Remains Of Edith Finch all use Unreal 4 in Geometry 3D, but none of them gave me the option when I used their profile for Unbox.

    What else could I try?

I was able to get the hook to work wth the cloud profile and specifying the ConanSandbox.exe that’s under the Win64 directory for the game directory. However, a few things:

1 – The mouse seems weird. It seems locked to a smaller window than the actual game window.
2 – What settings did you guys do inside the game? Were you able to play in the full view or just a letterbox game?

    Thanks.

Anyone had any luck with this game? I am thinking of getting it if it plays well with Vorpx. It uses the Unreal 4 engine.
